"Tool for wood mortising machines, how it works,
and tool head for carrying out said work ".
The invention brings improvements to wood mortising machines with the aim, in particular, of making the price
lower cost and significantly reduce the cost of replacing the mortising tool when
<EMI ID = 1.1>
easily narrow mortises, which is usually
difficult with the tools of existing machines.
Its object, for this purpose, is a new kind
tool for digging mortises, hereinafter referred to as "chisel cutter", consisting of a similar tool body
to that of a chisel, terminated by a series of teeth with distributed transverse cutting edges, of pre renoe, substantially following a portion of circumference.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
titled another oaraoteristic of the invention, oonsist in
what, 1 * tool being placed on the piece of wood to be mortised
<EMI ID = 3.1> arranged in the direction of the width of the mortise, the tool is imprinted, by appropriate means, a translational movement such that each of its points deorives, in a plane parallel to the longitudinal walls of the mortise, a curvilinear course, preferably a circumference.
The invention also includes embodiments of tool holders shaped, mounted, and set in motion such that the tool is driven by the movement indicated above, necessary for the goal to be achieved.
These characteristics will be better understood thanks to the description, which will follow, of an embodiment of the invention given by way of exemplary embodiment, and shown schematically in the accompanying drawings, to which reference will be made.
In these drawings: Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of an embodiment of the chisel strawberry; <EMI ID = 4.1> Fig. 3 is a view showing the work of the tool, assumed to be seen in elevation, the piece of wood, as well as a tool holder being shown in section; <EMI ID = 5.1> tool, and Fig. 5 is a diagram of the control of the shafts on which said head is mounted. Fig. 6 shows, in longitudinal vertical section, a variant of the tool-holder head, in which is mounted a "chisel-cutter", assumed to be seen in elevation, itself constituting a variant embodiment of the embodiment shown in the other figures.
With regard to Figures 1 to 5, 1 is the body of the chisel-strawberry, which can be peroeed with a light 2 to lighten it, and terminated by a series of teeth 3, preferably distributed along a semi-circumference , and whose

notch 4 being, moreover, provided to ensure clearance at the start of work.
The chisel-cutter 1 being placed on the piece of wood 5 to be mortised so that the cutting edges 3a are arranged in the direction of the width of the mortise to be dug, it is imparted a translational movement in which, ohaoun of its points describing a route ourvilinear, the set of cutting edges 3a performs a work whose result is the formation, in 'the piece of wood 5, of a cutout delimited, at the lower part, by the surface envelope of the surfaces described by cutting edges 3a. The tool descending as the digging progresses, we thus manage to make, in the piece of wood 5, a mortise whose width is precisely equal to the length of the cutting edges 3a, <EMI ID = 7.1>
extreme cutting edges increased by the length of the longest string, in the direction of the length of the mortise, of the curvilinear path made by each of the points of the chisel-cutter.
This working method is put into practice,
<EMI ID = 8.1>
of the kind shown in Figures 3 and 4. This consists of a double eccentric collar, mounted without friction on eccentric journals 8, 8 ', shafts 9, 9', driven by a rotational movement of equal angular speed, preferably by means of ball bearings 7, the inner ring of which is fitted without friction on the journal, the journal 8 'being eccentric, with respect to the shaft 9', exactly of the same material as the trunnion 8 relative

<EMI ID = 11.1>
It is easy to see that, the two shafts 9, 9 'being driven by rotational movements of equal speeds, the bédanefraise 1 is, due to its mounting in the double eccentric head 6, driven by a translational movement in
<EMI ID = 12.1>
to the longitudinal walls of the mortise 11, a circumference having for radius the eccentricity of the journals 8, 8 'with respect to the shafts 9, 9'.
There is shown, in FIG. 3, in dotted lines, the base circumferences 12 of the cylinders described by the cutting edges 3a of the chisel-cutter, the bottom 13 of the running mortise being formed by the envelope surface of said cylinders, the length of the corresponding mortise 11 at the distance between the extreme edges of the chisel-cutter increased by the diameter of the circumferences 12, o 'is to say twice the eccentricity of the journals 8,8'.
Figure 5 shows, by way of example, a mode of control of the shafts 9, 9 ', pulleys of the same radius 14, 14' spread on said shafts reoevant their movement of a control pulley 15 by means of a endless belt 16 passing over an intermediate pulley 17 ensuring the belt tension. Of course, the tool-holder head 6 being mounted in the member, well known in mortising machines, sliding in height by a manual or automatic control,
<EMI ID = 13.1>
follow the movements of the pulleys 14, 14 '.
<EMI ID = 14.1> shown in fig. 6, more economical construction variant than the previous embodiment, it comprises a
<EMI ID = 15.1>
eccentric journal '8 of a rotary shaft 9, preferably by means of a bearing with one or more rows of balls 7, the inner ring of which is fitted without friction on the journal 8. At the upper part, ' necklace
18 .. its extension by a guide rod 19 capable of being able to perform a slight pivoting movement and comprising for example, for this purpose, a cylindrical head 22 constituting a ball joint mounted in a fixed guide 20. 4 the lower part, the collar 18 ends with a block in which the chisel-cutter is fixed by means of a screw 10.
The tool shown in fig. 6 comprises, like that shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, a body 1 terminated by a series of teeth 3 of suitable inclination, with cutting edges arranged transversely, with notches 4 ensuring the release of chips at the start of work. For clearing the oopeaux during work, tool 1 comprises,
in addition, a lateral toothing 21.
The working mode is similar to that described above, each of the cutting edges describing a cylindrical surface whose radius is equal to the eccentricity of. journal 8 in relation to the rotating shaft 9.
It is understood that the end, comparable to a portion of a strawberry, of the chisel-strawberry can be either in one piece with the body 1, or attached; and it is of course also understood that variations and improvements in details may be envisaged without departing from the scope of
