Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   La fig. 1 montre un premier exemple du dis- positif en élévation latérale, la fig. 2 en est une vue en bout, la fig. 3 une vue partielle en plan; la fig. 4 représente, à plus grande échelle, une tige tâteuse avec son couteau; la fig. 5 illustre l'action coupante du couteau ; la fig. 6 est une coupe longitudinale d'une deuxième forme d'exécution du dispositif; la fig. 7 est une coupe transversale par VII-VII de la fig. 6;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 la fig. 8 est une vue en élévation partielle prise latéralement par rapport à la fig. 7; la fig. 9 est une vue en plan partielle du dispositif selon la fig. 6, avec coupes fragmentaires; la fig. 10 est une vue en élévation partielle; les fig. 11 et 12 illustrent le mouvement des couteaux; les fig. 13 et 14 représentent en élévation et en plan respectivement un organe auxiliaire supplémentaire;

     laig. 15 illustre le fonctionnement des couteaux; les fig. 16 et 17 montrent une feuille portant xxxx des-pieds dessinés sur la base de reproductions ob- tenues avec le nouveau dispositif; les fig. 18 et 19. fournissent des indications sur le parti qu'on peut tirer des coupures faites par les couteaux dans une feuille.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 13>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 14>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 15>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 16>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 17>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 18>

  Device for establishing a linear reproduction of the shape of a body and in particular of human feet,
In order to be able to apply appropriate means to relieve or remedy such widespread foot aches, in so far as it is a deformity of the foot, it is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 in the first place to determine exactly the kind of disease with which the foot is affected. Thus the problem is posed of determining and fixing exactly the reciprocal distance, both in the horizontal direction and in the vertical direction, of a large number of points of the foot, in order to be able to recognize how the foot differs from its shape. normal; these results will make it possible to determine the measures to be taken for the correction or relief of the foot (supports for the sole of the foot, bandages, orthopedic shoes, possibly active therapy).

   The question still arises as to whether the reproduction of the shape of the foot should be established when the latter is in the loaded or unloaded state.

   Until now we mainly used two processes, namely
1) imprint using a thin sheet of rubber, and
2) the imprint in the gypsum.

   The first of these methods is usually used for a unilaterally loaded foot, while the gypsum impression is used for a loaded or unloaded foot.

   To judge with certainty the condition of a foot, it is necessary to determine, in addition to its deformation, the degree of functional weakening which is of decisive importance for the possibilities of correction as well as for the therapeutic measures; the determination of this degree of attenuation requires precisely the determination

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 differences in the height of the points of the foot in the unloaded state and in the loaded state.

   The imprint on a rubber sheet has the serious drawback that only the points of the foot which touch the bearing surface when the foot is placed there are determined, while all the other points do not provide any imprint; Now, it is precisely these latter points which would make it possible to determine the distance of the corresponding parts of the foot from the bearing surface and, consequently, the shape of the foot. But even the points on the imprint are actually at very different heights. The lowest points which, in a natural imprint, would sink more and more when the body weighs on the foot, are here retained by the rigid support surface, and the higher points lower to the level of this surface d 'support.

  A differentiation of all these points as to their real height is thus impossible by this method.

   In addition, in this process, the thickness of the coating layer applied to the bearing surface plays an important role; coating layers of different thickness provide all different impressions and this process does not allow any exact comparison, that is to say measurable, between the unloaded foot and the loaded foot. In short, this process is far too primitive to be able to determine the actual shape of the foot, because at its base there are too many arbitrary positions.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Impression in gypsum provides more precise results, but this process has the disadvantage of being complicated and, therefore, expensive and, moreover, it can only be properly performed by the skilled practitioner; if the practitioner does not fully understand their art, if the patient moves etc., big mistakes can occur. Other disadvantages result from the fact that it is frequently necessary to ship gypsum impressions.

   The impression in the gypsum can be made for the loaded or unloaded foot, however this is of little use, as there is no possibility of determining the differences in height of the various most important points of the impression. .

   The aim of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks; its object is a device for establishing a linear reproduction of the shape of a body and in particular of human feet, characterized by a plurality of parallel, sliding feeler rods, provided with flat, triangular, asymmetrical knives and which, by sliding of these Feeling rods of a quantity determined by the tested surface, penetrate into a sheet intended to be perforated, placed on a support plate, then come out under the imperative action of auxiliary means which are common to them.

   This device features safe operation and allows precise determination of the spatial position

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 reciprocal eg. points of a foot, as well as their height differences for the unloaded foot and for the loaded foot; this reproduction of Informe du pied is obtained on a perforated sheet. The position and length of the linear cuts or perforations made by these flat knives in the sheet in question make it possible to measure the differences in height of the various felt points and, therefore, to determine exactly the shape of the felt surface, as well as will easily understand.

  Handling of the device is very simple and the perforated sheets representing the shape of the foot can be delivered for use to a house specializing in this matter, eg, orthopedic shoemaker, shoe store, sanitary ware store. , an orthopedist etc.

   In the accompanying drawing are shown, by way of example only, various embodiments of the object of the invention.

   In the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, 1 designates the feeler rods of which a large number is provided and which are guided in two fixed horizontal plates 2 and 3 arranged one above the other, so as to be able to slide longitudinally.

  The rods 1 are distributed evenly over the plates 2, 3. The. rods 1 are pressed upwards by coil springs 4 so as to bear by a stop against the underside of the plate 2. The upper ends of the rods 1 are located in the same plane above the plate 2. A the lower end of the rods 1 are fixed

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 flat knives 5 with triangular point, all oriented in the same way and which pass or can pass through three horizontal plates 6, 7 and 8 having slits extending in the same direction as the cutters.

  Between the plates 7 and 8 is formed an interval 9 in which a sheet or card can be slid in which the plate 8 acts as a support while it is perforated in places by the descent of the knives.

   To reproduce the sole of a foot on which the weight of the body weighs, the person in question stands with the foot to feel on the feeling rods 1. The rods that are touched by the sole of the foot are moved downwards, while stretching their spring 4, by an amount determined by the plantar surface, which causes the knives 5 to penetrate more or less deeply into the sheet slipped into the space 9, and produce there corresponding cuts.

   To obtain that the puncture of the triangular knives in the card can serve as a starting point for the linear perforation and be used in the advantage that one draws from the cuts, the knives Are established in the shape of an asymmetrical triangle, this shape being such that one of the cutting edges 10 (Fig.4,5) is arranged along the vertical path of the tip of the knife. Thus, the cuts obtained in the card are formed in one direction from the starting point and their length depends directly on the path traveled by the knife and, therefore, on the position.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 from the felt point of the plantar surface.

   If the active surface of the knife, as shown in Figure 5, has the shape of a right triangle whose vertical side intersecting 10 has eg. 3 cm in length and the horizontal side 11 eg. 1.5 cm in length, we obtain the simple relation that for a cut in the card or sheet equal to zero, the corresponding feeling point was at least 3 cm above the initial plane of the heads of the feeling rods. For a cut-off length of 1/2 cm, the feel point was 2 cm above this initial plane, for a cut length of 1 cm, the feel point was 1 cm above this initial plane and , for a cut length of 1.5 cm, the feeling point was in this initial plane of the heads of the feeling rods.

   The surface of the card can be divided beforehand so that the heights of the test points can be read directly, without any calculation, near the cuts, which considerably facilitates the use of the reproductions, for example for setting up devices. orthopedic. In order for the knives to be guided strictly xx :: xxxxxxxxx in parallel, the feeler rods 1 and their guide holes in the plates 2 and 3 are quadrangular or prismatic, which prevents the knives 5 from rotating.

   So that the feeler rods 1, after perforation of the card, go back in any case to their initial position or rest position, a return device common to the knives 5 is provided; the plate 6 provided with slots corresponding to the rows of knives is part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 of this device. This plate 6 is guided and can slide on four columns provided at its angles and which firmly connect the plates 2, 3, 7 and 8 to each other. The plate 6 rests normally, as seen in FIG. 2, on the plate 7 and its longitudinal edges protrude outside the plate 7. Under these two projecting edges 12 and 13 of the plate 7 are, on each side, two cams 14 and 15.

  The two pairs of cams 14 and 15 are wedged on two shafts 16 connected to each other by arms 19 and rods 20. By actuation of a hand lever 18 fixed on a shaft 16, the plate 6 can be, with the aid of the pairs of cams 14 and 15, moved upwards. During this movement, the plate 6 acts on the knives 5 and hence on the feeling rods 1, which could possibly have remained stuck in their lowered position; the plate 6 releases them and thus allows the springs 4 to return them * to their rest position, which means that during a subsequent use of the device, all the feeler rods 1 are in their rest position. When the lever 18 is returned to its initial position, the plate 6 slides itself into its initial position.

   So that, when one wishes to carry out several reproductions of the same surface, it always occupies the same position with respect to the knives, an auxiliary device is provided above the feeler rods, as seen in figs. . 1 to 3. This is a device for supporting the foot, by means of which the same foot,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 by means of its heel, can always be brought back to the same position with respect to the feeler rods 1 and, therefore, to the knives 5, so that the various perforated cards produced with this foot will all be perfectly identical. This retaining device is formed by a kind of clamp 21 whose jaws rotate on a fixed axis 22 and can be separated from each other against the force of a spring 23.

   On the internal face of the jaws 24 of the clamp, serving to receive the foot, guide rollers 25 are provided which allow and facilitate vertical movement of the foot in this clamp.

  To prevent the clamp 21 from moving by rotating around its axis 22, the handles 26 are provided with rods 27 and 28 which, at their other end, are joined by a pin 30 (see fig. 1 and 3) which can slide in a fixed guide slot 31. Thanks to this measurement, the plane of symmetry of the clamp 21 always maintains the same position with respect to the knives 5 regardless of the spacing of the jaws 24, as will easily be understood.

   In the second embodiment, the support plate is formed, as seen in Figs. 6 and 7, by bars 30 which rest at their ends on lower support bars 31 and 32 and are fixed thereto in such a way that between each of them and its neighbor, a slot is formed for the passage of a corresponding row of knives. On the support thus formed is placed a sheet 33 intended to be perforated and which has been slipped into the gap

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

 or slot 9 by a kind of funnel 34; the slot 9 is limited at the top by an upper row of bars 35 attached to two upper support bars 36 and 37 and which are spaced apart like the lower bars 30 to allow the passage of the rows of knives.

   At its rear end, the slot 9 is closed by a blade 38 (fig. 6) serving as a stop for the sheet 33, while two side blades 39 (fig. 7) serve as a guide for the card 33 for its introduction into the slot. 9 as well as when removing after perforation.

   Here again, the feeling rods 1 carrying the knives 5 can slide longitudinally in the fixed plates 2 and 3. Between these two plates 2 and 3 is an auxiliary plate 40 also horizontal, crossed by the rods 1 and which has the function of imperatively return, after each operation-de.perforation, in their initial or rest position the feeler rods and, therefore, the knives 5 which, in this example, are not subjected to the action of a spring. To this end, the plate 40 is provided on each of its two long sides with two guide fingers 41 which engage in guide slots 42 formed in blades 43 respectively 44. These two blades 43 and 44 can themselves slide between angles 45 fixed to the two fixed plates 2 and 3.

   At their rear end, the two blades 43 and 44 are connected by a rod 46, so as to form a single sliding body. The rod 46, the ends of which, of smaller diameter, carry spacer sleeves 47 (fig. 9), cooperates with two

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 arm 48 forming part of a cover 49 and resting on a common shaft 50 which serves as an axis of rotation for the cover 49 provided, at its front end, with a handle 51. The aforesaid rod 46 is arranged in slots 52 ( fig.6) of the arms 48, so that, when the cover 49 pivots, there is a relative movement between these slots 52 and the rod 46 and, consequently, a sliding of the blades 43 and 44. The axis 50 of cover 49 is carried by supports 53 themselves carried by the fixed part of the device, which has a casing 54.

   When the cover 49 must cover the free end of the feeling rods 1 and that it is brought from its open position, drawn in solid lines in FIG. 6, in its closed position, indicated in the same figure in phantom lines, that is to say when the cover is closed, the blades 43 and 44 slide in the direction of the arrow drawn in FIG. 6. This sliding has the effect of causing the guide fingers 41 to move upwards in the slots 42 of the blades 43 and 44, resulting in a corresponding upward movement of the auxiliary plate 40.

  As a result, the feeler rods 1 resting by their stop on the upper face of the plate 40 are lifted and brought into the rest position, in which the knives 5 leave the slot 9 completely free. Then, the card 33 is slid into the slot 9, then the cover 51 is returned to the open position. This movement has the effect

 <Desc / Clms Page number 13>

 to slide the blades 43 and 44 in the direction opposite to the previous sliding, so that the plate 40 moves consequently downwards. Thus, the plate 40 releases the feeler rods 1, the knives 5 of which come to rest on the sheet 33, as seen in FIG. 11. When the rods 1 are pressed eg. when you put a foot on it, the knives 5 sink in and perforate the card 33 (fig.12) in the same way as in the first example.

   In the embodiment described now, the two edges of the knives 5 form an angle of 45 each, so that the tip of each knife forms an isosceles triangle-rectangle. The advantage is thus obtained that the knives, the edge 10 of which (FIG. 8) is arranged along the trajectory of their point, produce in the card 33 cuts the length of which is exactly equal to the lowering or stroke of the knives. corresponding, so that the differences in height of the various test points are determined directly on the map, without any calculation being necessary.

   Fig. 15, partially schematic, is used to understand the value of the cuts obtained on the card.

  In this figure, the left hatched right triangle whose sides of the right angle, equal, are designated by a, represents a knife in the rest position. For simplicity, it has been assumed that the length F1-P1 representing a feeler rod is equal to a side a of the right triangle.

  M designates the horizontal projection of the feeler rod

 <Desc / Clms Page number 14>

 on the map. On this same fig. 15, the right-angled triangle represents the knife in the pressed position in the card. It has been admitted here that the point F1 'on the action of the pressure of the foot, is lowered until F2. Likewise, the feeler rod and the knife are lowered by a length F1-F2 = s; therefore, the tip of the knife which was first on the line S representing the card to be punched is now at a distance s below that card, which has therefore been cut by the knife.

   The length of this cut, designated in the drawing as So-S1 'is equal to the length s, while the length S1-M = b is equal to the actual height of the felt point of the foot above the line P which corresponds to plate 2 of the device. Thus, the distance from point M, which can be fixed in advance on the card to be punched, at the end closest to it from the cutoff, gives the real height of the point considered of the foot above the surface support. Consequently, the height of the different felt points of the foot above the bearing surface can be read directly on the) perforated part.

   After performing a reproduction, the cover 49 is returned to its closed position; during this movement, the auxiliary plate 40 imperatively brings the feeler rods 1 upwards into their rest position, in the range described above. Since during their descent, the feeler rods 1 do not have to overcome the force of a spring, but only the low resistance

 <Desc / Clms Page number 15>

 from the sheet 33 which is as thin as paper, consequently, precise linear perforations are obtained on the card. In the rest position of the feeling rods 1, the knives 5 have, as seen in FIGS. 7 and 8, their points engaged in the grooves formed between the bars 35; these grooves thus serve as a guide for the knives during the sliding of the rods 1 of circular section.

   Figs. 13 and 14 show a bracket 56 which is placed freely on the fixed upper plate 2 in the field of the feeler rods 1, so that it is supported by its two sides against two rows of feeler rods. On each side of this square 56 can move an index 57 respectively 58 mounted in a longitudinal groove on the corresponding side. This square 56 is intended to serve as a stop for determining the position of the foot in the field of the feeler rods. By means of the adjustable indexes 57 and 58, the posterior contact point and a lateral contact point of the foot with the square 56 are fixed.

  In this way, it is possible to bring one and the same foot as many times as one wishes in the same position with respect to the field of the feeler rods, which facilitates the comparison of the cuts or reproductions produced by the knives 5 on the various cards thus executed.

   In fig. 16 and 17, the foot reproductions established on maps 33 relate to one and the same foot, FIG. 16 being a reproduction of the foot

 <Desc / Clms Page number 16>

 in the unloaded state and FIG. 17 a reproduction loaded state. To create a reproduction of the foot in the unloaded state on a map, the person in question sits, for example. on a chair so as to be able to easily put your foot on the feeler rods of the device described.

   The card 33 intended to be punched has a division indicated by broken transverse lines 63; these linear elements or lines are in such number and are distanced in such a way that their midpoints correspond exactly, when the card has been placed in position, to the feeler rods located above the card and, therefore, to the points of the card. foot which will be felt and to the rows of knives 5 arranged in the casing 54 perpendicular to these lines. The midpoints of these lines 63 correspond to the points M indicated in FIG. 15 and allow the heights of the points of the tested foot to be read.

   For greater clarity, we have not shown the cuts made by the knives in the cards of FIGS. 16 and 17. In these figures, we have drawn only part of the lines resulting from the perforation of the knives and indicating the height of the various points of the foot above the transverse lines 63. These curves which with the fundamental lines 63 and the curve showing the outline of the foot, limit the vertically hatched surfaces, have a completely variable appearance from one fundamental line to another. In fig. 16 which is a reproduction of the foot in the loaded state, it can be seen that between surfaces A and B there is a change of direction from the maximum inclination from the inner side to the outer side of the foot.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 17>

  The central surface C, hatched obliquely, represents the surface of the foot, which, when a slight pressure is exerted on it, actually touches the ground. The median line D drawn in dotted lines in this central surface C is the connecting line of the sagging internal points of the foot and it represents the real axis of the latter. Fig. 17 which is a reproduction of the foot in the loaded state, shows that at the same place the change of direction of the inclination is even more pronounced; side of the plantar surface in E is particularly characteristic in this case. This figure represents an enlarged foot; such deformation can easily occur as a result of tangential forces to which the foot is exposed eg. when playing tennis, because this game requires a lot of lateral movement.

   Fig. 18 is a graph showing the heights of a number of test points on the foot; the points M1 to M5 correspond to the aforementioned midpoints of the linear elements of the card and, therefore, to the horizontal projections of the feeler rods. Points S1 to S5 correspond to one of the ends of five cuts of the knives. The length M1-S1 is equal to the real height of the felt point located above M1; the difference S-S is equal to the actual descent of the corresponding feeler rod. In fact, all the points of the plantar surface from M1 to M5, located in the same transverse plane, are thus determined.

   To obtain eg. the height of an intermediate point, eg. from a point x, we lead

 <Desc / Clms Page number 18>

 the curve determined by points S1 to S4, we lead the vertical Mx-Sx passing through this point x and the point of intersection Sx gives the height of the point considered x above the bearing surface.

   The reproductions described still offer a very valuable advantage. By connecting the points of the same height or dimension of the various parallel transverse lines, as was done in fig. 16 and 17 for the points of dimension zero, one obtains a representation of the foot in relief similar to a topographic map in relief. This ppssibility is important in the sense that the study of these level curves, their spacing and possibly the protruding or re-entrant parts which they present allow the specialist practitioner to recognize any functional or pathological peculiarity of the foot.

   In fig. 19, a reproduction with a particularly characteristic foot relief effect was given. To show all the resources offered by this kind of reproduction, we have also drawn on this figure the transverse profiles; c designates the cuts made by the knives.

   The level curve d connects all the points of the plantar surface whose distance from the ground is equal to zero, that is to say for which the cut of the knives has a maximum length.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 19>

It emerges from the above description that the apparatus described in accordance with the invention creates possibilities for graphic reproduction of plantar surfaces such as did not exist until now.

   It goes without saying that the device according to the invention could present variants of detail without departing from the invention.
