<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

L'extrémité en forme de botte du bras 2 comporte des paliers 17 pour une barre à aiguille 18 et, en un point situé entre ces paliers et le volant, le bras 2 comporte des trous taraudés pour l'insertion intérieurement sur des côtés opposés, de vis à pointe conique 19 munies extérieurement d'écrous de serrage 20; sur ces vis à pointe conique oscille une pièce 21 ayant grossièrement la forme d'un T (et qu'on appellera plus loin le levier principal), qui assure l'entraînement par le vo- lant de la barre à aiguille et des pièces de la navette ; àl'extrémité du levier principal 21 située près du volant est mé- nagé un logement 22 dans lequel s'engage la rotule 16 du volant;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
La barre 40 du pied de biche est montée coulissante dans des supports 41 et à son extrémité inférieure est fixé, au moyen d'une vis 42, un pied de biche 43 comportant plu- sieurs fentes ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
tournant, au moyen d'une vis 44, un support 45 comportant des pattes 46 , venant en prise avec la barre à aiguille 18 de chaque côté et portant un bras 47 dirigé vers le haut et avec lequel vient en prise un galet 48 tour@ant sur la vis 49 fixée sur l'une des branches 23 de la fourche du levier principal 21; une barre d'avancement 51 suspendue au support 45 par une vis 50 porte un ressort à lame 53 et se prolonge vers le bas pour former un organe d'avancement à trois barres 52 destiné à venir en prise de manière coulissante avec trois des quatre fentes du pied de biche 43 et comportant des saillies 54;

<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
barre se déplaçant dans des paliers 17 et le ressort 26 d'en- traînement de la navette déplaçant le porte-navette 28 conte- nant la navette 29 et sa canette garnie-de fil le long de la glissière 30 de la navette;
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
tenant en arrière des fentes du pied de biche 43 qui est écarté du tissu ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
L'aiguille 33 continue à monter et la navette 29 à avan- cer à travers la boucle jusqu'à ce que l'extrémité du rebord de la navette 29 passe au point de jonction des rainures 31 et 32 de la glissière 30,ce qui a pour effet de'dégager le fil du coin et de lui permettre d'être tiré rapidement vers le haut lorsque la saillie 63 du levier principal 21 vient en contact avec la barre compensatrice 60 qui se trouve ainsi ramenée à sa position primitive pour tendre le point à l'aide de tendeurs classues portés par la navette 29 et le couvercle avant 64;
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>

on this end is mounted a tensioning device consisting of a rigid slotted screw 65 biased by a spring, a nut 66 being mounted on the plate 64 and comprising a disc 67, a projection 68 of which engages in the slot of the plate. than 640
The front plate 64 is fixed to the arm 2 by a screw 69.
A cycle of the pieces forming the stitch will now be described, which cycle results from one revolution of the handwheel, two strokes of the needle bar, two strokes of the shuttle and the advancement of the sewn material when the stitch is. made ; at the same time we will describe the accessory movements that could be.
Fig. 3 shows the parts of the needle, those of the presser foot and of the advancement bar in the position they occupy at the start of the cycle; the main lever being in the opposite position to that shown in fig.l.
When the flywheel 7 turns under the action of a belt passing over a pulley 8 or under the action of a rotational movement applied by friction on its rim, it drives the shaft 4, by means of the spring screw 10, to press it 14 and the pin 13, in a rotational movement as well as the ball joint 16 of this shaft, ball joint, which, sliding and rotating in the slot 22, causes the main lever 21 to oscillate on the screw 12 by lowering the fork 23 and the needle bar 18 with which it engages, this

bar moving in bearings 17 and the shuttle driving spring 26 moving the shuttle holder 28 containing the shuttle 29 and its bobbin lined with thread along the slide 30 of the shuttle;
the needle 33, which is held in the bar 18 by the screw 39 is placed in the correct position in this bar (thanks to the radial housing provided descends through the slit of the presser foot 43, passes through the fabric and passes through the slit 37 of the needle plate 35 to reach below the level of the base plate 1, part of its length engaging in the groove 32 of the guide rail 30 of the shuttle; the thread compensation bar 60 is hand - held by friction in its supports - by a screw 61 biased by a spring.
At the start of the cycle, the threaded end 62 is at its highest point; during the preliminary descent of the needle bar 18, the compensator remains stationary and keeps the thread taut until the threaded eye of the needle 33 reaches the fabric; at this time the needle pulls thread by lowering the end 62 of the compensator.
The support 45 of the advancement bar is articulated on the bar 40 of the presser foot by means of the screw 44 and a toothed bar 51 is suspended from this support by means of the screw 50; at the start of the cycle, the control roller 48 fixed to the fork 23 by the screw 49 is located at the top of the lever 47, the toothed advancement member 52 engaging the fabric and being hand-
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
holding back slits of the presser foot 43 which is spaced from the fabric;
during the preliminary descent of the needle bar 18 the roller 48, aided by the spring 55 fixed in the hole of the support 45, brings the lever 47 back and allows the claw 52 to rise away from the fabric and to return back under the pressure of the leaf spring 53 to a point where it is in contact with the point 58 of the screw 57 for adjusting the stitch length, this claw placing itself gradually close in the position shown in fig. 2 and 8; in the meantime the presser foot 43 having lowered under the action of the support 45 strongly maintains the fabric on the needle plate 35 as long as the passage of the needle 33 lasts.
The above takes place during a U-turn of the steering wheel
7 and represents a half cycle; the parts now occupy the position shown in fig.l, 2 and 8.
The completion of one revolution of the handwheel 7 raises the needle bar 18, it follows that the thread which is on the side of the needle 33 at the point closest to the shuttle 29 forms an opening between itself and the needle 33, the nozzle of the shuttle 29 engaging in this opening, as shown in fig. 4.
The shuttle 29 containing a bobbin filled with thread, the end of this thread 70 of which has been fixed to the fabric by the preceding stitch, as shown in fig. 45 and 6, continues its course by further pulling the end 62 of the trim bar towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
the bottom to ensure sufficient slack to pass through the loop; during the continuous rise of the needle 33 the edge of the shuttle 29 sliding in the groove 31 introduces thread into the wedge formed by the junction of the grooves 31 and
32 as shown in fig. 5, 6 and 14, the wire thus being kept lowered and advancing around the shuttle 29 from a point located approximately at the level of the bottom of the shuttle 29, as shown in FIG. 5.6 and 14.
Needle 33 continues to move up and shuttle 29 to advance through the loop until the end of the flange of shuttle 29 passes the junction of grooves 31 and 32 of slide 30, which has the effect of releasing the wire from the wedge and allowing it to be pulled rapidly upwards when the projection 63 of the main lever 21 comes into contact with the compensating bar 60 which is thus returned to its original position to tension the point using classified tensioners carried by the shuttle 29 and the front cover 64;
when the compensator 60 regains slack after the passage of the shuttle 29 the shuttle thread is no longer stretched in contact with the needle plate 35 until the upper loop passes in front of the projection 38 as shown fig.13.
As the needle 33 comes out of the fabric upward, the needle 48, meeting a curve of the lever 47, rotates the holder 45 on the screw 44 and on the bar 40 of the presser foot, lowering the claw 52 through. the slits of the presser foot
43 to bring it into contact with the fabric; lever 47 continues
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
hindering its movement after the claw has come into contact with the fabric, the presser foot 43 is lifted and pulled away from the fabric, which has the effect of transmitting the pressure of the spring 55 to the claw 52 in contact with the fabric. tissue ; lever 47 still continuing its movement, when the tabs 46 come into contact with the protrusions 64 of the feed bar 51, the claw 52 is displaced in the slots of the presser foot 43, dragging the fabric with it and the 'bringing to the position shown in fig. 3.
A cycle is thus completed.
By lifting the lever 56 at its outer end, the presser foot 43 and the claw 52 are lifted away from the needle plate 35 and the tensioner support 45 is brought up by bringing it closer to the projection. 68 of the disc / 67, which has the effect of pushing the upper part of the disc outward and removing the tension of the upper thread.
The threaded hole 12 of the flywheel 7 serves as a housing for a screwed bobbin pin; when this axis is in place, one can wind the bobbins as with a winder by turning the handwheel 7 after having loosened the spring screw 10 to allow the flywheel to rotate independently of the shaft 4.
By lowering the projection of the shuttle holder 28, the shuttle 29 is lowered, which causes the rim of the bobbin to protrude from the groove 31 and allows the latter to be easily removed through the opening which is normally closed by the plate. 34 which serves as a cover.

The invention is not limited to the particular mode of construction or assembly of the parts as has just been described in great detail; changes can be made without departing from the scope of the invention, for example a flanged shuttle and a double-stroke needle bar can be used in combination with a curved shuttle slide against which the shuttle would be maintained by the centrifugal force, provided it is handled by a suitable drive device and is mounted so as to allow the rim of the shuttle to function in the manner just described .
As another example, any type of long shuttle comprising a slide forming part of its assembly or helping to retain the shuttle in its cradle or support may include a flange and be used with a double-stroke needle or with a needle bar. double stroke needles and needle bars are known to be used with semi-rotary shuttles and also like rotary shuttles, but the present invention shows how a needle and a needle can be used. Double stroke needle bar with another type of shuttle commonly established in all its variants and in all types as a long shuttle.
As another variant of the construction, the spring actuating the shuttle can be replaced by a rigid bar going from the main lever to the shuttle carrier and in this
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
case the bar would be stressed by a spring tending to lift it.
