<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

PATENT, OF INVENTION "Device for obtaining luminous moving dimensions and designs"
The object of the invention is a device for obtaining luminous writings and drawings: mobile giving an effect similar to that of screens and projections formed by networks of lamps lighting up and reaching successively.
The apparatus according to this invention comprises an endless opaque tape, perforated to. represent writings or drawings, a projector and a transparent screen consisting of a system of bicenvex lenses, in which each lenticular element struck by the brush of projection light passing through a hole in the opaque tape reproduces a separate and distinct image of the projector light source.
The biconvex lenticular system can be obtained by molding a transparent pleique, each element
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
lenticular being in the form of a small cube with curved external surfaces ,, or. well there. can be formed by cylindrical surfaces formed on both sides of the screen, the cylindrical surfaces of one face being orthogonal to the cylindrical surfaces of the other face.
Another object of the invention is a compact mechanism of small dimensions allowing the use of endless tapes of considerable length as well as of different lengths.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example embodiments of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in perspective the diagram of the device in its simplest embodiment.

Figs. 4 and 5 are a front view and a side view respectively of an advertising apparatus showing the silhouette of a person speaking through a megaphone.
Fig. 6 schematically shows a device for the automatic insertion of a colored transparent diaphragm on the path of the projection light brush *
Fig. 7 is an enlarged, partially sectioned plan view of the. projection mechanism,
Fig. 8 is a longitudinal vertical section of FIG. 7,

Fig.9 is a cross section of Fig.7.
Fig.lO shows a detail of the ribbon deflector.
Fig.ll shows a detail of the device for the intermittent advancement of the ribbon.
In the drawing, 1 indicates a light source, 2 a perforated opaque tape and 3 the screen; - 4,4 'indicate schematically. the lenses of the projector optical device. The tape 2 is perforated and the succession of holes that it presents forms letters and thus words and inscriptions. In FIG. 1 the screen 3 is normal to the axis of the projection brush; it can however be inclined with respect to this axis. By the movement of the ribbon. perforated the light image moves, on the screen 3 formed by a. lens array producing the effect explained above.
When the screen is tilted, images grow or shrink according to the direction of the tape movement.
The screen is formed for example by an array of biconvex lenses which can be obtained: by molding a single plate as shown in. figure 22. This result. can also be obtained by using cylindrical rods orthogonal to each other, and, (see figure 3)
We can also. use a single layer of chopsticks, each comprising a half-cylinder of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
side and. elements. semi-cylindrical on the other side ,. at. rectilinear generator or: curve ,. perpendicular to the first half-cylinder (. torus surfaces).
The advertising apparatus shown schematically in Figures 4 and 5 represents the silhouette of a person 8 speaking through a megaphone 9. The outline of the megaphone can be seen from the frame of a projection screen 1a of the lenticular network type. above described. The base 11 of the apparatus encloses the projection apparatus and the perforated opaque tape 12; a mirror 13 reflects the image on the screen which is inclined with respect to the axis of the brush. of light, so that the projected moving image enlarges as it moves away from the person's mouth towards the open end of the megaphone giving a very nice advertising effect.
According to the invention the projection can be colored by the interposition of a color filter in the projection light brush. The filter can be inserted or removed automatically in the desired sequence using the tape. perforated*,
FIG. 6 shows an exemplary embodiment of a device which can be used for this purpose.
In front of the objective 4, behind which the tape 2 moves, the diaphragm 14 can oscillate, consisting of a color filter subjected to the action of two electromagnets 15 and 16, one of which is excited in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the desired moments of the screening. For this purpose, the tape 2 carries windows at the slots 17 at determined points.
The tape 2, made of a non-conductive material, moves. between a conductive roller 18 and the brushes. 19 and 20, respectively .. windings of the aforesaid electromagnets ,, the brushes being isolated from each other.
Each time a slit passes under a bala, the electrical circuit of one or the other electromagnet is closed inserting or removing the color filter in the brush of light.
The projection apparatus shown in detail in FIGS. 7 to 11 comprises two parallel L-shaped rods 21, connected together. at one end by plates. 22 supporting. the ribbon advancement mechanism and at the other end by a lens holder 23. in which is adjustable the lens 24 in the usual manner for firing.
A cylindrical boot 26 open at the east end. fixed with screws 25. to the rod 21 on a side of. lens holder; in said boot is mounted a capacitor provided with two; plano-convex lenses 27 resting on annular edges at the ends of the box under the action of a spring 28. A light source 29 is placed at a desired distance from said capacitor, the socket 30 being fixed to the rods, so that she can
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
be adjusted in the longitudinal direction, for example ,. as shown in the drawing, using screws engaging in grooves 31 of the sleeve.
A reflector 32 which completes the optical part of the projector is. attached to the rods: behind the light source.
An interapace 33 open upwards between the lens holder 23 of the box 26 constituted the projection window. The tape 34 passes through said window and is guided in its movement by the rollers 35,
The tape passes along one of the tges and over a guide roller 36, then over a roller 37 mounted idly on one end of an oscillating arm 38 and finally over a guide roller 39 thus forming a handle 40. then again in the direction of the rod on a guide roller 41, a toothed winding roller 42 and is finally wound on the spool constituted by a circular series of anti-friction rollers 43 mounted in an insane manner. on parallel axes supported by a cage 44.
The tape can be wound on said spool in one or more turns along its length, the thickness of the winding being limited by the outer boot 45.
A toothed unwind roller 46 is mounted concentrically to the annular series of anti-friction rollers 43 and receives the tape; the inner coil of which is deflected towards the center of the spool by the guide roller 47. The unwinding roller 46 forces the tape against
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
a helical surface formed on a guide piece 49 fixed to the plate 22 and provided with two teeth 50 engaging in grooves. corresponding 51 of the roll: unwinding 46.
The tape is moved axially upwards by said helical surface 48 (fig.8) thus disengaging from the spool and forming a wide loop, then it passes through a. broom 52 and return along the other rod. to the roller 35 and to the projection window. 33 ..
The unwinding roller 46 is fixed on a shaft 53 bearing to. its outer end a toothed wheel 54 connected by a chain to a toothed wheel 55 (fig, II) wedged on the shaft carrying the winding roller 42. the @ wheel 55 carries a crank button 56 cooperating with a fork 57 fixed on the pivot 58 carrying the oscillating arm.
38.
When we set in motion the chain, the roller. unwinding 46 and the winding roller 42 are driven in the rotation. At the same time the fork 57 and the lever 38 with the roller: 37 perform oscillations which produce an enlargement or a shortening of the handle 40 The tape feed is therefore intermittent.
The pivot 58 is preferably: mounted movable in the axial direction, so that by pressing it down against the action of a spring (not shown) the fork 57 @
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
disengages from the crank button 56 and the arm 38 can thus be put out of action when. wishes to perform a continuous projection.
A stopper (not shown in the drawing) which can be easily released keeps the pivot% in the inactive position for the desired time.
The projection apparatus described above can be advantageously used for advertising purposes. because he can. operate without any supervision.
If the device is activated intermittently, animated boxes can be projected.
The endless tape can be easily mounted, removed, replaced through the upper opening of the window 33 and the spool without knowing the need to cut it.
The unwinding roller. 46 centrally arranged. to wind it in combination with the deflector 49. allows the unwinding of the tape without producing excessive forces or deformations.
