<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
--fluide lorsque le fléau de la balance a dépassé sa posi- ticn moyenne. A ce moment la distribution par les conduites 27 et 28 est renversée par le tiroir 7,

Balance with device for controlling a shutter, a counter or other similar instrument or member.
The resistances arising from friction or other forces, and encountered by the moving parts of a balance which it is desired to ensure very precise operation, must be reduced to the strict minimum. However, in order to be able to control shutters or other components by through one of these moving parts, it has been proposed to make an electrical contact between the index which indicates the weight and a second index which can be driven freely so as to close an electrical circuit by means of which the member to des- '7' ,, serve and the free index are moved simultaneously.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The accuracy of the weighing may be slightly affected by the contact pressure required for such a device, the operation of which is not absolutely safe due to the possible dirtiness of the electrical contacts.
The present invention relates to an installation qyant the same object, in which no disturbance is brought to the precision of the weighing and whose operation remains indefinitely. To this end, one of the moving parts of the balance is connected to the distributor member of a servo-motor actuated by the pressure of a liquid or a gas, in such a way that the movement of this member takes place. performs practically without friction. The distributor member is preferably entirely relieved of the pressure of the gas or the liquid and even of its own weight, either by balancing it, or by giving it a (hollow) shape such as the fluid, then employed. as a pressure agent, exerts an upward thrust on the distributor equal to its own weight to keep it in equilibrium within the fluid.
The absence of friction during the movement of the distributor member is ensured by passing the connecting piece between this member and the balance through the wall of the servomotor with the clearance necessary for this purpose, that is to say say without stuffing box; it is also possible to give the distributor member itself a certain clearance in its location, which clearance can however be reduced if necessary by imparting to this member a rotational movement or an alternating movement perpendicular to the direction. of its displacement.
To reduce as much as possible
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the effect of the inertial forces acting on the distributor member, and their reaction on the balance, it is possible, according to the invention, to divide the distributor member into two separately mobile parts, one of which is connected to the balance and the other to the servo motor piston. The cooperation of these two parts with each other and with their housing provides the correct distribution of the pressurized fluid in the servo motor, so that the part moved by the balance is not brought back by the servo piston. -engine. This avoids the inertia forces that would otherwise act. '' During the return movement.
According to the invention, the installation can advantageously be used for the weight which must balance the load. This weight can for example be a movable weight controlled r $ mounted on the beam of the balance and moved by the servomotor so that the balance automatically searches for balance. This weight can also be free and be placed on the plate and removed therefrom by means of the servomotor, the balance being in equilibrium in the second case.
If the balance is carried out in such a way as to automatically seek balance, it may happen that the beam continues to oscillate on either side of its equilibrium position under the action of the servomotor.
@ According to the invention, this drawback can be avoided by not rigidly coupling the member distributing the pressurized fluid to the servomotor to the balance, but by connecting it with a certain clearance to part of the balance, the valve member which itself can be moved by the servomotor within the limits of this clearance.
Figures 1 to 7-of the accompanying drawings schematically show a number of embodiments
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the present invention.
The beam 1 of the balance (fig. 1) carries on the one hand a plate 2 which is attached to it and on the other hand a rigidly fixed weight. The arm of the balance beam carrying the weight is extended and is coupled by a rod 4 to an oscillating lever 5 to which the rod 6 of a distributor spool 7 and the rod 8 of a piston 9 are connected. The spool 7 and the piston 9 move in a housing 10 provided with channels, comprising a chamber 11 for circulating fluid and to which are connected the pipe 12 for the arrival of the pressurized fluid and the overflow 13 which brings back the fluid. fluid to the pump (not shown). The piston rod 8 extends upwards and carries a toothed rack 14 which acts by a pinion 15 on the writing arm 16 of a recorder 17.
When the beam 1 of the balance is moved by the load on the plate 2, the rod 4 exerts a traction on the left end of the lever 5 and thus raised the drawer 7. The space above the piston 9 is thus put in place. communication with the pressurized fluid, and the space under this piston is placed in communication with the uncompressed fluid. the piston and the right end of the lever 5 therefore descend, also driving - in a certain report - the spool 7 until the latter returns to its initial position. When the platform 2 is unloaded from the balance, a series of reverse operations takes place.
The servomotor therefore always has the slide 7 in its initial position so that the deflection of the piston 9 and consequently that of the writing arm 16 is proportional to the deflection of the beam 1 of the balance.
The force required to actuate the writing arm
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is supplied by piston 9; the balance only has to move the drawer 7 which can be done with very little. friction because the rod 6 / spool passes freely through the wall of the housing 10.
The spool 7 and the piston 9 may be hollow so that they are subjected to an upward thrust balancing all or a fraction of the weight of the parts 4-9 and 14. The friction of the joints is thus reduced to a minimum. If the weights are not balanced in this way or something else it should be / taken into account when calibrating the balance.
In figure 2, the weighing plate 2 of the balance forms a container for a fluid substance, and the beam 1 is directly coupled to the drawer 7 by the rod 4. Between this drawer and the housing 10, there is a sleeve. or cylindrical drawer
18, 'pierces of lights as shown, which is connected by two rods 19 (only one of which is shown) to a lever 20 having a fixed fulcrum at 21 and which forms a fork on either side of the rod 4. The rod 8 of the piston is also connected to this lever and it is extended by an arm 22 controlling a shutter 23 interposed in the pipe
24 for supplying the fluid substance to be weighed, the housing 10 of the servomotor is placed in a tank 2j, filled to the overflow 26 with the fluid which also serves as a pressure transmission agent.
When the tank 2 is almost full, the drawer 7 moves slowly upwards and the piston 9 goes down slowly as in fig. 1 ±, by the effect of the fluid pressure.
This last movement causes a -proportional-.,. Of the drawer 18 until its lights are closed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
by drawer 7. This last drawer - as well as the balance proper - is therefore completely free from the influence of the servomotor - except for the slight friction between drawers 7 and 18. During the entire lifting period of the drawer 7, the piston 9 descends and gradually turns the shutter 23 which will be completely closed when the tank 2 has received the required load.
A shutter placed on the weighing pan itself can be controlled in a similar manner. According to the invention, the servomotor which provides the necessary energy can be driven on the scale, and be connected to the housing of the distributor member by flexible pipes. The rod or the lever which transmits the movement of the piston to the distribution member, or to one of the distribution members, may be arranged so that the force required for this displacement is perpendicular to the movement of the tank. weighing so as not to influence the accuracy of the weighing.
When very great efforts have to be exerted, for example for the opening and closing of large shutters, the accuracy of the weighing can be ensured by using two servo-motors mounted in series one behind the 'other, the balance being connected to the distribution member of the first servo-motor, the piston of which is in turn connected to the distribution member of the second servo-motor, the piston of which can provide the large force required.
In fig. 3, the piston 9 of the servomotor moves in the cylinder 29 forming part of the beam 1 of the balance and connected by flexible pipes 27, 28 to the housing of the distributor member 7, and it is coupled by the piston rod 8 to a movable weight 30 which actuates a counter 33 via a toothed rack 31
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
and a pinion 32. The free end of the beam 1 of the balance carries stops 35, 36 cooperating with stop screws 37,
38 and springs 39, 40 fixed to the frame 34.
The installation of the servomotor is such that when the beam 1 of the balance moves away from its equilibrium position the movable weight 30 is moved so as to re-establish equilibrium. The distance traveled by the moving weight from its zero position, with the pan empty, is a measure of the load which is recorded by counter 33. Since a slight deflection of the balance beam is sufficient to actuate the servo The angle of deflection is limited by the stop screws 37, 38. The springs 39 and 40 are provided for the purpose of bringing the beam of the balance to the equilibrium position when . is approaching, so as to prevent oscillations of the balance as far as possible.
The arrangement shown in FIG. 4 further serves to prevent oscillations of the balance beam on either side of the equilibrium position. To this end, the distribution member 7 is not connected directly to the beam of the balance by the rod 6, but rather by the intermediary of an arm 71. The arm 71 forms with the arm 72 a neck lever. - pivoting around an axis 73 on the beam of the balance between the stops 74. 75, the end of the arm 72 being provided with an elastic eyelet 76 which strongly tightens the rod
77 connected to the mobile weight 30.
When the beam 1 of the scale deflects under the action of the load, the movable weight 30 is moved to the right by the servomotor and the lever 72 then bears against the stop 75. The movable weight reaches its position. the balance before the beam of the balance, this weight therefore exceeds, - this position and deflects the balance in the other direction so as to reverse the direction of operation of the servomotor
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
and recall the moving weight. This reverse movement of the servomotor is used to also push the distributor member within the limits of the play existing between the stops 74 and 75, that is to say independently of the movements of the balance.
For a judicious choice of the game, which is therefore preferably adjustable, the balance comes to rest in its equilibrium position from the first reversal of the movement of the mobile weight. ,
In the case shown in FIG. 5, the movement of the movable weight 30 is employed to control the dispensing spool 41 of a second servo motor. The housing 42 of this drawer is connected by pipes 43, 44 to the cylinder 45, the piston 46 of which opens and closes the valve 49 of the intake pipe and the valve 79 of the discharge pipe for the fluid substance to be weighed, through rod 47 and arm 48 and through arms 50 and 80 and rod 78, respectively.
In this embodiment the first servo motor is arranged such that the movable weight 30 tends to keep the beam of the balance in balance. When the weighing pan has received the required load of fluid, the weight 30 moving to the left ends up driving the spool 41 causing a leftward movement of the piston 46 of the second servo motor, the closing of the valve 49 and opening of the valve 79 so as to interrupt the admission of the fluid and to initiate the discharge thereof.
As soon as fluid begins to flow out of the pan, the balance beam tilts to weight 30 (as shown in the drawing with some exaggeration). The direction of operation of the servomotor is thus reversed and the weight 30 is brought back in proportion to the flow.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
fluid out of the weighing tank, until this weight also drives the dispensing drawer 41 to the right.
This -displacement reverses the direction of operation of the servomotor 45.
46, closes the discharge valve 79 and opens the intake valve 49. The installation can be arranged so that the intake valve is always open last and close first.
As a result of the co-operation of the moving weight with the second servomotor, a well-defined net podis of the fluid substance is weighed and debited at each operation, which can moreover be recorded by a counter. The time necessary to ensure the play of the balance during each measurement of the gross weight and the tare can be obtained by allowing a certain delay between the opening and the closing of the inlet and outlet valves.
. ' The servo-motor device can also be used for controlling a free weight which is alternately suspended from and removed from the balance beam. An installation of this kind is shown in FIG. 6.
Two weights 51 and 52 are placed on the plate 3, the first which is the tare weight remains constantly on the plate, while the second which is the net weight can be removed from the plate and placed on it by the servo -engine.
To this end, the rod 8 of the servomotor piston is connected to a lever with two arms 53, 54 articulated to a fixed pivot 55, the arm 53 being able to:. Come into engagement under a hook of the net weight 52. When the tank 2 has almost received the desired load during a weighing, the beam of the balance moves towards its equilibrium position and the stop 56 mounted on the tank 2 allows the progressive descent on its seat, of the valve 57 of the admission channel 58, so as to interrupt the admission
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
--fluid when the balance beam has exceeded its average posi- ticn. At this time the distribution by the pipes 27 and 28 is reversed by the slide 7,
and the piston 9 moves downwards. As a result of this movement, the weight 52 is lifted, and the beam of the balance therefore tilts towards the side of the weighing pan. The weighing pan drain valve 59 then abuts against a fixed stop 60 and opens thereby emptying the weighing pan until the equilibrium position is approached again. The beam of the balance then returns to its average position, and when this average position is exceeded the servomotor is inverted again, the piston 9 goes up, the weight 52 is deposited on the plate and the beam of the balance s' tilt on the weight side.
This movement causes the opening of the intake valve 57, and the operation resumes in the manner described above.
The operation of the balance is considerably simplified when the weight of the load is used to generate the pressure of the fluid, as shown in figure 7. For this purpose the weighing pan is not fixed directly to the beam. of the balance, but it is attached by the rod 63 to an oscillating lever 62, one end of which is connected to the beam of the balance by the rod 61 and the other end of which is connected to the piston 65 by the rod 64. This piston rests on a spring 67 in the cylinder 66 which is placed in communication with the pressurized air chamber 69 by a pipe 68. and with the tank 25 by the pipe 13. The pressure chamber is connected by a pipe 12 to the housing of the servo motor distribution spool 7.
Valves, for example wing valves 70 are placed in lines 13 and 68.
