Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   Ainsi la feuille de recouvrement est repliée   :le   manière à constituer une cuvette lui rend le matériau par- faitement étanche sur ses faces apparentes ainsi que sur les parties voisines des faces attenantes et aux angles;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  A method of making materials coated with sheet materials. The present invention relates to the manufacture of materials coated with sheet materials.

   It relates to a process for manufacturing these materials using a base mass making it possible to obtain them in the form of tiles, slabs, panels, artificial stones, etc ... having one or more faces covered with a strong sheet material.

   For this purpose, the method of manufacturing these materials consists in making use, in any suitable form, of any base material, cast, molded or pressed, to which a covering sheet of any material is attached. by hooking during the manufacture of the material,
In the practical realization of the invention and when it is advantageous to achieve a perfect adhesion of the sheet to the ground mass, the sheet is elastically stretched by the ground mass during the manufacture of the material, at the time where this sheet is brought to its final shape, so that it remains stretched over the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 ground and slightly convex.

   Optionally, use is made of a sticky material adhering both to the base material and to the coating sheet and which can be spread over the face of the sheet: it must be brought into contact with the base material.

   The attachment of this sheet is achieved by lateral folds penetrating it into the bottom mass.

     On the other hand, the corners of the sheet are folded over so as to form buckets or folds which are also embedded in the bottom mass.

   These materials can be obtained either by pressure, or by vibration or even in any other suitable manner.

   In order to make the invention fully understood, application examples will be given below.

   Figure 1 shows in perspective a tile covered with a metallized foil.

   Figures 2 to 4 show different means: the formation of the corners of the metal sheet.

   FIG. 5 shows in perspective the way in which the metal sheet must be folded in the case of a material covered on three sides by this sheet.

   FIG. 6 represents an example of application of the process in the manufacture of a basin with a metal cover, for example.

   Figure 7 is a horizontal section made in the pelvis, fig. 6, showing the assembly of materials to

Figure 8 shows another application of the metal clad materials in the 3 'one-beam building, the roofing.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to the invention, to obtain materials coated with a sheet material, such as for example covering tiles, paving, ceiling, panels, facing stones, elements for the manufacture of sanitary appliances, beams of roofs, etc ... use is made of a base mass 1 such as cement, Portland cement concrete or other, plaster, ebonite etc ... making cold setting or hot casting , and to which we communicate the desired shape square, octagonal, etc ... by appropriate means tot.

   This base material 1 is for example poured into a mold in the bottom of which is placed a covering sheet 2 folded as indicated below and made of any material such as for example a sheet made of acetophane, metal or an alloy that may or may not be weathered, oxidized, enameled and protected or not by a varnish or a layer of paint on the facing face 3, This sheet may optionally be covered on the face 4 in contact with the base material, by a layer of a tacky material which adheres durably to the backing material and the sheet, despite variations in temperature, resulting deformations to the coating sheet and despite any physical or chemical changes which this tacky material may undergo thereafter.

   Use may be made, for example, as a tacky material, of a mixture of asbestos fibers and of a tarry or oily asphalt material with or without a solvent added.

   The edges 5: the sheet are curved so as to make with the facing face, any angle but preferably 90. An additional fold 6, approximately parallel to the facing face 3 is made to allow a perfect connection with the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 ground mass 1.

   The corners must be particularly: neat.

  They can be in the form 3 'a single fold 7 of the material (fig. 2) or: the multiple folds 8-9 (fig.3) or else: the buckets 10 (fig. 4). The folded edges the corners do not necessarily have to be contiguous because of: the existence of folds or buckets embedded in the mass: The bottom.

   Thus, the cover sheet is folded back: the way of constituting a bowl makes the material completely waterproof to it on its visible faces as well as on the neighboring parts of the adjoining faces and at the angles;
The edges of the sheet can also be folded over so as to make with the face: the facing an angle less than 90 and for example close to 45. In this case, the additional fold 6 is no longer necessary, the curved part: the neighboring sheet of the facing being itself embedded in the mass.

   The filling: the sheet 2 thus prepared, and placed in a mold appropriate to the shape which the material must present, is carried out with the base mass which completely fills the folds and corners of the sheet as well as the mold above the sheet. Pressure is then exerted on the mass: the base 1, which has the effect of strongly applying the latter against the internal faces 4 and 5: the sheet 2 placed on the bottom of the mold.

   When this mode: production is adopted, sheet 2 is,: preference, slightly convex: the way to create, when: the pressure exerted in the mold on the base mass, of the tensions in the sheet which have for effect: to apply it more strongly against the mass: the base 1, especially when it comes to sheets of acetophane or other similar material.

   The shape to be given to the ground mass can also @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 be produced by vibration, which provides the advantage of concentrating this mass perfectly fills all the corners and folds of the sheet 2.

   The material thus formed is removed from the mold and allowed to cool, harden, dry, etc.

   When the ground material consists of a material used in the wet state such as concrete for example, humidity can hinder the adhesion of certain sticky materials, in particular those based on tar, asphalt or of oil. In this case, after drying, the room is heated to a temperature sufficient to make these sticky materials more fluid and this heating makes them adhere to the mass in which they penetrate to fill the interstices or pores occupied, when putting implemented, by plots of water.

   For the manufacture of materials which must have three facing faces (FIG. 5), it suffices to carry out an additional fold 31 and to extend the folds 5 along the surfaces to be covered. It is also possible to provide folds or buckets 8'-S 'in the angle of the additional faces.

   In the case of covering or paving materials, or else of constituent parts of any object intended to be juxtaposed with the interposition of a waterproof cement, the bowl may be deprived of the folds 6 and the folds: the angle. In this case, however, the faces 5 feroni with the facing face 6, preferably an angle of less: the 90.

   It is obvious that the shape of the materials obtained by means of the method, object of the invention, must be appropriate for their intended purpose. Thus, in particular, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, they can constitute elements. elongated possibly having a certain curvature 12 and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 are manufactured in such a way that their angles 13 meet exactly along edges 14 for the establishment of sanitary appliances, such as sinks, urinals, bathtubs, etc. These can however be produced by a piece.

   In this case, the base mass is poured into a suitable mold, covered on the inside: the attached sheets each having the appropriate folds for their attachment.

   In a similar way, the beams; the ceiling can be made of cellular concrete or other 15 reinforced or not, covered with metal plates 16 penetrating by their edges 17 in the concrete mass and separated from each other by joints. 18 made up either of the same adhesive material as that which is used to fix the sheets to the base mass, or of an impermeable cement of any kind. The faces of the sheets 15 in contact with the joints 18 need not necessarily present the secons fallback 6.

   The beams are placed directly at their location, this avoids the loss of time due to the assembly and disassembly of the formwork as well as the subsequent work necessary to make the beams impermeable, in particular the tarring, welding, etc. ....

   The covering tiles, facing stones, etc., produced according to the invention and repointed by means of a waterproof cement form perfectly waterproof surfaces and the visible part of the sheet. can expand and contract under the effect of temperature by bulging or stretching, without this phenomenon being able to adversely affect the waterproofness of the appearance and the solidity of the facing. It is also possible to give the sheet an initial elastic tension sufficient to read the variations having no other effect than: modifying this tension without causing the sheets to take off.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   It is possible, using the process which is the subject of the invention, to use oxidizable metals and inexpensive materials which need only be protected on one of their faces.

   The materials obtained in this way are waterproof and unalterable. They also offer architects great possibilities for architectural achievements, given their pleasant appearance, polished with a patina or not, and the many possible achievements in terms of colors and materials that can be worked in sheets.
