 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

     Cornue le montre le dessin, la résistance 22 est branchée en parallèle sur le côté courant continu du redresseur 4 dans la position de commutation I correspondant à la marche pendant le jour,, de sorte que l'accumulateur est à l'abri d'une surcharge en marche le jour. Par contre, dans les positions de commutation II et III, correspondant respectivement à la marche en ville et sur route pendant la nuit, la résistance 22 est déconnectée. Pendant la marche en ville la nuit la génératrice d'éclairage ne tourne que rarement longtemps à

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  Electric lighting installation with permanently excited alternator charging an accumulator by means of a rectifier, in particular for motorcycles.

   Electric lighting installations for motorcycles are already known, in which an alternator with permanent magnetic excitation charges an electric accumulator by means of a rectifier. However, the known embodiments involve the risk that the accumulator undergoes an overload in operation during the day and that, as a result, the plates of the accumulator are prematurely put out of service.

   According to the invention, to prevent the accumulator from undergoing an overload, it is mounted in parallel with the alternator,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 on the alternating current side of the rectifier, a resistor which switches on automatically. The automatic intercalation of the resistance can, for example, be operated positively when driving in the daytime, using the hand switch of the electrical installation or by means of an automatic electromagnetic switch.

   The accompanying drawings represent three examples of execution of the invention.

   Fig. 1 is an installation in which the resistance is switched on positively using the manual switch of the electrical installation.

   Fig. 2 is an installation in which the resistance is switched on automatically by means of an electromagnetic switch.

     Fig. 3 is an installation in which the resistance is switched on automatically by means of an electromagnetic switch, the circuit of which is closed or opened positively by means of the hand switch of the electrical installation.

   In Fig. 1, 1 designates an alternator comprising for example two semi-circular steel magnets 2 with permanent magnetization and an armature 3, the two winding ends of which are connected to the two alternating current terminals of a rectifier 4. From the positive terminal of this leaves a conductor going to the stationary pad 5, of a switching box 6, while the negative terminal of the rectifier 4 is earthed.

   In addition to the pad 5, the switch box 6 also includes stationary pads 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

  Among these pads 5 and 7, 8 and 11 as well as 10 and 14 are connected to each other in pairs by means of conductive bars.

  From pad 5 starts a conductor going to the positive terminal of an electric warning device 15, the negative terminal of which can be connected to ground by pressing a push-button 16. To pad 8 is connected the positive terminal of an electric accumulator 17 whose negative terminal is earthed. Pad 9 is connected to one of the terminals of a parking light 18, the other terminal of which is grounded. From the stud 12 starts a conductor going to a switch 19, preferably mounted on the handlebars, from which two conductors leave respectively going to one of the terminals of a main lamp 20 and of a non-glare lamp 21, of which the The other terminal is to ground. In the known manner, the two lamps 20 and 21 can be combined into a single lamp with two filaments.

   From pad 13 starts a conductor connected to ground by a resistor 22. To pad 14 is connected one of the terminals of a rear lamp 23, the other terminal of which is to ground.

   The switch box 6 comprises a rotary switch member 24 with four pads 25, 26, 27 and 28, the four switching positions of which are designated by 0, I, II and III. 0 stands for parking during the day, I for walking during the day, II for parking or walking in town at night, and III for walking on the road at night.

   - In the switching position 0 shown in the drawing all the circuits of the switching box are open.

   In the switching position I, the switching pads 26, 27, 28 bear on the stationary pads 13, 8 5.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

  The alarm 15 can be actuated and the alternator 1 can charge the accumulator 17 through the rectifier 4, the resistor 22 being connected in parallel to the direct current terminals of the rectifier.

   In the switching position II the switch pads 25, 26, 27, 28 bear on the stationary pads 7, 14, 11, 9. The alarm 15 can be activated and the alternator 1 can charge the accumulator 17 by Intermediate rectifier 4. In addition, the parking lamp 18 and the rear lamp 23 burn. Resistor 22 is disconnected.

   In coupling position III, the switch pads 25, 26, 27, 28 bear on the stationary contacts 8, 5, 12, 10. The alarm 15 can be activated and the alternator 1 can charge the accumulator 17 by via the rectifier 4. In addition, the rear lamp 23 and, depending on the position of the switch 19, the main lamp 20 or the non-glare lamp 21 burn. Resistor 22 is disconnected.

   It is advantageous to additionally provide the switch box 6 with special stationary pads by means of which the ignition can be switched off in the switching position 0.

  For the clarity of the drawing, we have omitted to represent these plots.

     As shown in the drawing, the resistor 22 is connected in parallel on the direct current side of the rectifier 4 in the switching position I corresponding to the operation during the day ,, so that the accumulator is protected from a overload running during the day. On the other hand, in the switching positions II and III, corresponding respectively to walking in town and on the road at night, resistor 22 is disconnected. While walking in town at night, the light generator rarely turns on for long.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 high speed, and moreover the lamps 18 and 23 are on. When driving on the road at night, the main lamp 20 or the non-glare lamp 21, consuming a lot of current, is switched on in addition to the rear lamp 23.

   Also an overload of the accumulator is not to be feared during operation at night and the resistor 22 can remain off circuit.

   Fig. 2 differs from FIG. 1 by the following points. The pad 13 of the switch box 6 does not exist.

  On the other hand, the direct current terminals of the rectifier 4 are connected to the voltage coil 29 of an automatic electromagnetic switch whose armature 30 actuates a pair of contacts 31, 32. The contact 31 is connected to one of the AC terminals of the rectifier 4 and the contact 32 is connected through the resistor 22 to the other AC terminal of the rectifier 4. In the rest position shown the two contacts 31, 32 are open and thereby fact resistor 22 is off. The automatic switch 29, 30 is a circuit breaker which, for example, connects resistor 22 for 7.5 volts and disconnects it for 6.5 volts.

   Consequently, when a determined load voltage is exceeded, resistor 22 is inserted into the circuit both during daytime and nighttime operation. The accumulator is thus always protected against overload.

   The voltage coil 29 which always remains connected prevents the rectifier 4 from operating at no load on the direct current side. The voltage coil 29 is mounted on the rectifier 4 in such a way that its connection with the direct current terminals cannot be undone. Consequently,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 when the accumulator is switched off, it functions as a load on the direct current side of the rectifier and prevents destruction of the rectifier by the peak voltages of the alternator operating without load. Furthermore, for a sufficiently high alternator voltage, the automatic switch 29,
30 turns resistor 22 back on.

   Since resistor 22 is mounted between the AC terminals of the rectifier, it also protects the rectifier at the same time against overload.

   Fig. 3 differs from FIG. 1 by the following points. To pad 13 is connected not resistor 22 but one of the ends of voltage coil 29, the other end of which is grounded. The frame 30 and the two contacts 31, 32 are mounted in the same way as in the embodiment of FIG. 2. To contact 31 is connected one of the alternating current terminals of rectifier 4 and the contact
32 is connected by a lamp 33 acting as a resistor to the other AC terminal of the rectifier.

   The switching boot 6 closes the circuit of the voltage coil 29 in the switching position I and opens it in the switching positions 0, II and III. Consequently, the automatic switch 29, 30 can only come into action when driving during the day and not when driving at night.

   Since the resistor acts as a lamp at the same time, the driver can see whether the battery is rarely or frequently overloaded.
