"Protector for handles for soil or soil working tools."
The present invention relates to a protector for handles for tools for working the soil or the earth such as, for example, pickaxes.
In accordance with the invention, this handle protector comprises a metal protective part partially embracing the end of the handle and has elastic parts which adapt strictly to the structure of said handle and on the end of which the body of the tool is fixed. .
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in one embodiment by way of example and schematically.

Fig.l shows in an elevational view a pick provided with the protector according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the sleeve protector seen from the narrow side.
Fig. 3 shows an elevational view of the same protector seen from the wide side.
Fig.4 is a section along the line IV-IV of Fig.3.
This handle protector is made of sheet steel.
It consists of a socket 1 of elliptical section, welded laterally and whose narrow sides are extended by two protective strips 2 whose profile corresponds to the curvature of the handle 3 of the pickaxe. As the front end of the pickaxe handle 3 gradually becomes stronger or thicker, the handle protector, with its two strips 2, is mounted on the handle by inserting it on the handle side of the latter and pushing it forward. These strips 2 of the handle protector are applied intimately against the narrow sides of the front end of the handle. Since the front end of said handle has an elliptical section, any rotation of the sleeve 1 of the protector is impossible.
Likewise, by the shape of the sleeve 1, any forward sliding of the handle protector is avoided, so that fixing of said protector by means of nails or the like is not necessary. The actual tool 4 is mounted on the handle by inserting it from the handle side, then, by striking it, it is pushed forward until it is on the ends of the strips 2. When the fixing of the the tool is released, it is moved a little backwards, by striking it, and a small wedge is then slipped between each end of the protective strips 2 and the end of the handle; after which the tool is again pushed forward by striking it.
