 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 même   machine,l'opération   de plissage,machine élaborant dans une succession d'opérations   nombreuses, des   objets entièrement finis;

   L'invention se caractérise   nota-,ment   en ce qu'un   flan,préalable   ment découpé,est placé entre deux séries de linguets à surfaces pa-   ralléles   à la feuille à plisser, espacés à intervalles réguliers,ou non,et   répartis     suivant   la, forme del'objet homothétiquement à la section d'un poinçon de mise en   forme,mais   de telle sorte que ces deux séries de linguets forment deux plains superposés;

   "PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PLEASING SHARP BODIES, AND PLEATED OBJECTS OF ANY SECTIONS OBTAINED WITH THE SAID APPARATUS."
For shaping parts made of very thin materials, sheet metal, paper, or caton, comprising circular, square, rectangular, oval, triangular or other sections, stamping methods are generally used with punch and matrix with the corresponding profile. However, when the sheet to be worked on must not be stretched or laminated, it is then necessary to crease the sides of the object.

   Methods are already known for the pleating of hollow objects, which use tilting latches between which the sheet of metal to be worked is placed; but the currently known arrangements only make it possible to obtain either a simple corrugation or than an asymmetric pleating reducing the resistance of the finished object, and preventing any subsequent operation such as, for example, the tamping of the sharp edge of the object. These machines, moreover, do not have other goal than to obtain pleating (their organs being limited to this operation) but do not allow to obtain, on a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the same machine, the pleating operation, a machine that produces entirely finished objects in a succession of numerous operations;

  finally, by their very constitution, they cannot make it possible to obtain pleated objects of different sections and of variable dimensions.

   The invention is characterized in particular in that a blank, previously cut, is placed between two series of latches with surfaces parallel to the sheet to be pleated, spaced at regular intervals, or not, and distributed according to the size. , form del'objet homothetically to the section of a shaping punch, but such that these two series of latches form two superimposed plains;

  the latches of one being placed in the free intervals of the latches of the other. The latches, moreover, independent of the punch, can be articulated at one or more points, along an axis situated in their length, or at one end , thus giving either a rotational movement or a tilting movement. One of the two series can be fixed, the other mobile; one again can have only a simple translational movement without rotation nor tilting.

   The movement of the pawls results from the descent of the forming punch, without having any positive connection with it. The punch pressing on the sheet, drives it so that the sheet slides between the two planes of pawls, whose displaced displacements, one with respect to the other, progressively produce the creasing.

   During movement, the latches of the lower series pass above those of the upper series, and in the case of latches with a T-section, the fold obtained is strictly symmetrical
The mounting of the latches is homothetic with respect to the section of the shaping punch. For a determined arrangement of the latches, corresponding to said punch, it is possible to obtain pleated objects of the same section, but of different dimensions, by varying 1 = - size of the cut blank By changing the punch and the grouping of the latches on the same machine, it is possible to obtain objects of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 pawls being a function of the section of the object, in the case of objects with a square, rectangular or triangular section, the pleating will be limited to the rounded corners of the angles of connection between the various flat surfaces of the object.

   All the elements of a series of latches will be, preferably, made integral, so as to coordinate all the movements and prevent a local resistance capable of delaying the movement of the latches. It is also possible to connect each end of the latches to the frame by tension springs, thus forcing the punch to an additional force, but allowing the rapid repositioning of all the elements after pleating, when the sheet has delivered the latches. .

   This arrangement of the latches around the shaping punch, and the independence of the punch with respect to said latches makes it possible to carry out, after pleating, one or more other operations on the same object on one or more work surfaces having the same axis as the punch.

   By way of example, the following embodiments have been shown schematically.
