Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  A method of making fabrics having a width multiple of that of the loom, '
It is known to manufacture on looms 1 fabrics having a width double or multiple of that of the loom, by forming two or more layers of fabrics arranged in echelons connected to each other, which is obtained by making pass successively through one or more layers of upper warp threads and a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 lower warp yarn layer the same weft yarn.

  When, for this purpose, one employs. the usual way one and the same shuttle, there occurs the disadvantage, as a result of the traction exerted by the weft thread, that the fabric, at the fold formed at the connection of two layers located one above the other, is tighter than in the remaining part and this tighter place appears in the form of a bead.

   To avoid this drawback, there is provided, according to the present invention, at the fold formed during weaving at the connection of two layers of fabric situated one above the other, a separating element around which the shuttle providing the shuttle is guided. weft thread for the different layers of fabric, so that this separating element is not tied.

   The separating element then absorbs the traction of the weft thread, which results in a completely regular fabric, perfectly smooth and which therefore does not present more or less tight places even in the region of the fold or folds. . ' After removing the finished, folded fabric with the separator element which is then released (or separator elements when there are more than two layers of fabric), the fabric strip can be unfolded without further over its entire width.

   The appended drawing, given schematically and by way of example, serves to explain several embodiments of the method according to the invention, -
Fig. 1 illustrates the fabrication of a fabric

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 comprising two layers A and B, FIG. 2 that of a fabric comprising three layers A, B, C, la. fig. 3 that of a fabric comprising four layers A, B, C, D, and FIG. 4 that of a fabric comprising five layers A, B, C, said E.

     . In fig .: 1, a denotes the separating element which is at the fold formed during weaving in the warp direction where the two layers of woven a and B meet.! At the place where this connecting fold of the two layers of fabric is located, at the beginning of the insertion of the weft thread $ the shuttle is moved in the direction of arrow 1 through the warp to form the layer of upper fabric A, then the shuttle returns from the free longitudinal edge of fabric layer A in the direction of arrow 2 through the warp.

   In the following, the weft thread is guided externally around the separator element a and the shuttle, for the manufacture of the lower fabric layer B. is moved in the direction of arrow 5 through the chain, then the shuttle returns from the free longitudinal edge of fabric layer B in the direction of arrow 4 through the warp to the connecting fold of the two fabric layers A and B. This process is then repeated constantly until the fabric is formed throughout its length.

   The separator element @ is placed in the comb with the corresponding extreme warp threads (from the fold of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 connection) of the two-ply fabric to be made, and the separating element passes through a heddle which, during the weaving process, is controlled distinctly, in that it is moved, top to bottom and bottom to top of so that the separator element is neither woven with the warp threads of the upper fabric layer A nor with the warp threads of the lower fabric layer B.

  The separator element a, which advances on the loom in the same way as the warp, can be constituted for example by a metal wire supplied by a particular roller for each separator element, by a gut cord, by a strong twisted yarn or by a string. In order to be kept taut in the direction of the width of the loom, the strip of fabric, before reaching the beam, is led with the separating elements between auxiliary tension rollers known per se. When the fabric is finished, it is cut from the loom with the separator element it contains, and the thus released separator element can be removed without further and the fabric unfolded to its full width.

   In the manufacture of a fabric comprising three layers according to FIG. 2, there necessarily occurs on the two longitudinal edges of the fabric in formation a connecting ply, each of these two plies comprising a separating element a respectively b.

  The separator element t. moves in the same way as the separator element a so that it is neither woven with the warp threads of the fabric layer B nor with it.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 the warp threads of fabric layer 0. The arrows
1 to 6 indicate the. walking of the shuttle, which will be easily understood. During the passage of the shuttle from the fabric layer B to the fabric layer C and vice versa, the weft thread is led externally around the separator element b, as it is led around the separator element a.

   In the. manufacture of a fabric with four layers according to fig. 3, there are three connecting folds, two of which are one above the otter on one of the longitudinal edges of the growing fabric. Each ply is provided with a separator element a, b, c, respectively. The three separator elements a, b, c, are moved in the desired way so that they are not woven with the warp threads. The movement of the shuttle can be easily understood using arrows 1 to 8.

   During the passage of the shuttle from the fabric layer c to the fabric layer D and vice versa, the weft thread is guided externally around the separator element c. as it is guided around the other separator elements.

   In the manufacture of a fabric comprising five layers according to FIG. 4 on each of the two longitudinal edges of the fabric being formed two connecting folds are produced, situated one above the other and to each of which is added a separating element a, b, c, d respectively. The separating elements a, 3% s% d are all four in the desired way so that they are not woven with the warp threads. The walk of the shuttle is indicated by arrows 1 to 10.

  When passing the shuttle from fabric layer D to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 the fabric layer E and vice versa, the weft thread is guided on the outside around the separator element, as it is guided around the other separator elements.
