<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
On peut apporter de nombreuses modifications à la machine décrite ci-dessus à l'aide de la fig. 2;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
L'invention s'étend également à un dispositif
EMI7.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Bicyclette @ Currently known bicycle frames (fig. 1) have certain drawbacks, on the one hand the rigidity of the frame 2, 3, 5 in the vertical direction, is opposed to the absorption of shocks and the suspension lacks flexibility. ; on the other hand, these known frames have insufficient rigidity in the transverse direction, which sometimes makes braking on a curve on the front wheel difficult on descents. Finally, a significant part of the effort that the cyclist provides on his pedals is absorbed by the alternating deformations that the frame undergoes under the action of the crankset, which leads to a notable loss of efficiency.
The object of the present invention is to remedy
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to these disadvantages; it relates to a bicycle characterized in that the housing supporting the fork of the front wheel is connected to the frame supporting the saddle and the crankset by a single tube, which allows this tube to work in bending and consequently to cushion the chaos and hectic pace of the road.
According to one embodiment, this single tube or central tube is supported on the frame connecting the saddle to the crankset in the middle region of this frame, which allows this frame to work in flexion on either side of the frame. junction point and consequently increases the flexibility of the suspension.
According to one embodiment, the frame connecting the saddle to the crankset consists of two tubular elements connected to the single central tube and offset with respect to each other, the upper element supporting the saddle and the lower element bearing the crankset, this arrangement making it possible to make the connections of these two tubes to the central tube at a right angle, which facilitates manufacture and increases the strength of the assembly, owing to the possibility of achieving a more perfect execution.
The invention also extends to a brake device for a bicycle or other similar vehicle characterized by a steering rod markedly different from that of the lever actuating the brake pad, this rod bearing on the one hand on the frame of the bicycle. and on the other hand on the brake pad or its control lever, which makes it possible to transmit by this rod the reaction of the braking force to the frame of the bicycle and to maintain the friction surface of the pad in a substantially parallel plane to the plane of symmetry of the bicycle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The invention also extends to a support device for a bicycle brake handle characterized by a single support fixed to the center of the handlebar, this single support receiving the joints of the front brake and rear brake control levers arranged on either side. other of the plane of symmetry of the handlebars, which makes it possible to achieve a rigid, light and undeformable assembly.
The invention also relates to other characteristics described below and their various combinations.
Bicycles according to the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of a bicycle according to the invention.
Fig. S is an elevational view of another bicycle according to the invention.
Fig. 4 is a partial section along the. line 4-4 of fig. 3.
Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively an elevational view and a plan view of a brake device according to the invention.
Fig. 7 is a front view of a brake lever support according to the invention mounted on the handlebars of a bicycle.
Figs. 8 and 9 are views in elevation of a particular device for guiding the chain.
The bicycle shown in FIG. 2 comprises a frame consisting of a single central tube 1 connecting the housing 30 supporting the fork 31 of the front wheel 32 to the rear frame 4 which supports the saddle and the pedal 34.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This single tube 1 has a certain elasticity which allows it to work in bending so that the chaos applied to the wheels are effectively damped by this tube 1, which notably improves road holding.
The single tube 1, which is of a greater diameter than those commonly used for frames 2, 3 of known bicycles (fig. 1), has greater resistance to both torsion and transverse bending, so that the bicycle retains perfect rigidity in the transverse direction, which gives it great walking safety, in particular during sinuous descents made at rapid pace and with brakes on the front wheel.
On the other hand, the tube 4 of the rear frame (fig. 2) also has a diameter greater than that of the tube 5 of known frames (fig. 1) so as to effectively resist the forces of bending that this tube 4 will have to undergo in the plane of symmetry of the machine; these bending forces also help to give flexibility to the suspension of the bicycle in combination with the single central tube 1.
The tube 4: of large diameter (fig. 2) therefore has great resistance in the transverse direction, which prevents deformation of the rear frame under the action of the alternating forces of the pedals.
If it is considered that any deformation of the frame under the action of the force of the pedals constitutes a loss of efficiency, it follows that the efficiency of the machine forming the subject of the invention will be higher than that of the machines. known.
Numerous modifications can be made to the machine described above with the aid of FIG. 2;
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in particular in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the rear frame connecting the saddle 33 to the crank 34 is constituted by two elements carrying the rear of the central tube 1 (fig. 3), one of these elements consisting of a tube 7, carries the saddle , while the other element constituted by the tube 8, carries the crankset; these two tubes 7 and 8 are offset with respect to each other.
This arrangement makes it possible to fix the tubes 7 and 8 at right angles, which is a much more rational method of assembly than the assembly of oblique tubes with respect to each other, while giving the crankset and the saddle the best respective positions for the comfort of the user.
In addition, this arrangement makes it possible to accommodate, in one of the tubes 8, the end of which is freely open, an accessory such as a pump 38 serving to inflate the tire.
The pump 38 is held inside the tube 8 by a cap or plug 39 screwed into the upper end of the tube 8 (FIG. 4).
The present invention also extends to a braking device on the rear wheel of a bicycle; this device shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, comprises two brake pads 101 102 which are applied laterally on either side of the rim 14 of the rear wheel 35. Each pad 10 is integral with a fixing branch 11 intended to support the pad. on the rim 14; the branch 11 is supported at 15 on the frame and compacta a transverse lever 16, intended to actuate the brake.
This lever is requested by a control cable 17 which passes, for example, to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
inside the central tube 1, which protects this cable from accidental damage. A rod 12 articulated at 50 on the branch 11 by an articulation with a horizontal axis, bears at 51 on the frame at a point sufficiently far from the articulation 15 to ensure good fixity to the assembly, this support rod supports the brake reactions of the pad 10 on the; ante 14 and maintains the pad 10 by its axis 50 in the suitable orientation so that the pad does not come to rub on the rim 14 when the brake is released.
This rod 12 can moreover advantageously be constituted by a spring bearing at each of its two curved ends 50 and 51 on the one hand on the brake pad and on the other hand on the frame, so that this support rod 12 serves as a return spring separating the pads from the rim 14 when the action on the cables ceases.
This brake device has many advantages: firstly, great fixity is obtained when braking the pads 10 which are each perfectly held to the frame by two points 15 and 51 clearly separated from each other. On the other hand, no friction part comes into action for the operation of this brake, but only a pivoting movement at 15; this results in optimum use of the force provided by the control cables 17.
Finally, the combination of the frame and the brake which is the subject of this invention allows a particularly favorable direct control of the brake, this control being carried out by each shoe using a simple control cable 17 housed in the central tube 1 and directly actuating lever 16.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The invention also extends to a device
EMI7.1
No.wr handlebar, carrying the two levers .1 / 1 support on the handlebar, carrying the two brake control levers. It is known that in the systems known to date, each controller has its independent support.
According to the present invention, these two supports are combined into a single support 19 fixed by two attachment points 20 and 21 to the handlebars (FIG. 7). this single support receives, on the one hand, the two brake levers 22 and 23 arranged on either side of the plane of symmetry of the bicycle and, on the other hand, the ends of the two cable sheaths 24 and 25 of these two brakes.
This support device has great rigidity under the action of braking forces while having a reduced weight.
In addition, the support 19 of the brake levers may include a lantern holder 26, which has the advantage of simplifying all of these various components, by this combination, of reducing the weight and thus lightening the load. total weight of the bicycle.
The invention also extends to a device for guiding the chain represented by FIGS. 8 and 9 and made up as follows:
It often happens, in fact, that with a chain
EMI7.2
which can be relaxed, which is particularly the normal case with gear changes by derailment, the upper strand 66 of the chain strikes on the tube 67 of the rear fork of the frame. This has the drawback of damaging the enameling of the tube in this location. The device of FIG. 8 consists in having at 60 a transverse rod carried by the frame by means of a support 62 and receiving the chain when the latter relaxes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The device of FIG. 9 is an improvement of the previous device. The transverse rod 60 of FIG. 8 by a corridor 61 (fig. 9). This has the dual purpose of preventing the chain from hitting the frame when it relaxes and of protecting the rider's leg from contact with this chain.
The end of the corridor 61 can be advantageously replaced by a few crossbars such as 60, 64 and 65, suitably arranged in the length of this corridor.
The devices of the present invention relate to bicycles in the most general way, in particular, they also apply to tandems and to all two-wheeled cycles, regardless of the number of cyclists for which they are established.
