<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

"Press for pressure lubrication.
The present invention relates to presses for pressure lubrication, with cylindrical reservoirs, in which a piston moves on the load of grease contained in the reservoir, the piston being connected to a high pressure cylinder carrying a high pressure piston. moving in the longitudinal direction and subjected to the action of a spring.
The operation of presses of this kind is based on the principle that the advancement of the high pressure piston, obtained by the action of said spring, produces a vacuum in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
high pressure cylinder, for the purpose of sucking in. grease from said reservoir. In presses of this kind, the openings going from the reservoir into the high pressure cylinders are arranged either in the vicinity of one of the return points or in the vicinity of the other return point of the high pressure piston. In these early devices, however, these openings were only discovered when the piston had reached the end of its forward stroke, so that these openings remained closed throughout the forward movement of the piston produced by the piston spring.
As the piston immediately returns to itself, thus closing the suction openings again. the. The suction period is found to be extremely short, the amount of fat pumped out being therefore very small.
In presses, where the grease suction openings are located in the immediate vicinity of the closed end of the high pressure cylinder, it was possible to open the suction openings even before the piston had started its forward movement so as to suck a larger load of grease, the openings being left open throughout the advancement of the piston to be closed again only at the end of the forward stroke of the piston. However, these operations had to be carried out by hand.
The present invention relates to an apparatus ensuring of itself the opening of the suction ports before the beginning of the forward stroke of the piston, the orifices remaining open throughout said forward stroke so as to be closed only the end of this race, the closing also taking place by the device itself.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This results in a very long suction period, so that the high pressure cylinder can be completely filled with grease.
This result is achieved according to the invention by mounting at the end of the high pressure piston a drive member known per se which closes, after complete suction of the grease, the inlet orifices located in the vicinity of the closed end of the high pressure cylinder, very close to the return point of the high pressure piston.
The drives known per se in pumps and presses are not directly connected to the high pressure piston. On the other hand, the suction ports arranged in the immediate vicinity of the outlet end of the high pressure cylinder, are not kept open during the entire advance stroke of the piston, but are on the contrary closed already before the start. of the advancement of the piston. This arrangement results in a complicated construction of the press, the complication being due above all to the need to provide auxiliary chambers and valves.
In others, the suction openings of devices provided with drive members / located at the end which is opposite the outlet end of the high pressure cylinder, @ are only opened at the end of the advancement of the piston, so that here too only a very short suction period is available.
The control of the drive member can take place in various ways. In all cases, however, there is provided a traction member mounted on the drive member.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and cooperating with an attachment device, for example constituted by hooks or eyelets and provided on the high pressure piston. The embodiment according to the invention may be such that the drive member or push-button, extended, surrounding the high-pressure piston in the manner of a sleeve, is retained, in all positions of the piston, by means of a pawl and via a transverse pin fixed to the high pressure piston ,. The holes for the grease entry are at the end of the cylinder.
Thanks to this arrangement, the control of 1 drive member takes place not only in the extreme positions of the piston, the pusher being effectively controlled each time the high pressure piston reverses.
Another improved embodiment of the invention provides the advantage that even in the case where the suction openings from the reservoir to the high pressure cylinder are not closed by the pusher and there is no on the other hand, no relative movement between the high pressure piston and the high pressure cylinder, a leak of grease to the outside is absolutely impossible.
This result is achieved, according to the invention, by providing the end of the high pressure piston with transverse openings extending to the longitudinal piercing, said transverse openings being closed by a sliding ring with which said traction member engages in such a manner. that the ring discovers the transverse openings only when the high pressure piston has reached the end of its stroke immediately following the suction, when the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
suction ports are closed.
Said ring can surround the high pressure piston from the outside. It can, however, still be guided, according to the invention, in the longitudinal bore of the high pressure piston. In this case, the traction member of the drive member 'comprises at its lower end an extension projecting under the ring.
The closing movement of the ring is controlled by a stop pin projecting above the end of the high pressure piston. The end of the piston is, itself, flattened at the location of the transverse piercing to allow the arrival of grease.
In the arrangement of the ring, there is provided, according to the invention, for the drive member, an extension serving as a stop and located below the inlet orifices of the grease in the high pressure cylinder, this stop to limit the movement of the pusher.
The object of the invention has been shown in the drawings in four exemplary embodiments, in longitudinal section, and in various working positions.

Figure 10, the same press after complete ejection of the fat.
In the cylindrical reservoir 2 intended to be filled with grease, a piston 9 moves on the grease reserve. This piston is integral with the high pressure cylinder 1 in which is guided a high pressure piston 3 subjected to the action of a coil spring .4. The high pressure cylinder 1 comprises in the vicinity of its closed end, near the place reached at the end of the stroke by the high pressure piston 3, orifices 5 for the suction of the grease, These suction openings are open or closed by a drive member 6 known per se and fixed to a pulling member 7 in the form of a drawer. The recouched end of this member bypasses a transverse axis 8 on the high pressure piston.
The operating mode of this press is as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
When the high pressure piston 3 has reached the position shown in figure 2, the load of grease contained in the high pressure cylinder has been discharged out and the plunger 6 is located above the suction ports 5. These ports are thus completely free to allow suction for filling the high pressure cylinder. By removing the pressure exerted on the press, the spring 4 pushes the high pressure piston forward. Under the effect of this forward stroke of the high pressure piston, a vacuum is produced in the high pressure cylinder, so that the grease coming from the reservoir can freely enter this cylinder, passing through the open suction ports.
This period of filling the high pressure cylinder continues until the moment when the high pressure piston has reached the end of its stroke, that is to say the position shown in FIG. 1. In this limit position, the axis transverse 8 fixed to the high pressure piston abuts against the drawer-shaped end of the traction member 7, thus driving the pusher 6 which is placed in front of the suction ports 5. The high pressure cylinder 1 is thus located completely isolated from the reservoir 2. By then pushing back the high pressure piston 3 against the action of the spring 4 by means of a thrust exerted in the direction of arrow 10 on the bottom 27 of the press, the output under pressure of the grease contained in the high pressure cylinder, the grease exiting the open high pressure piston to the outside.
The ejection of grease through port 19 continues until
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
moment when. the end of the high pressure piston abuts against the plunger to bring it back to the position according to figure 2.
The piston 9 advances, for its part, by an amount corresponding to the decrease in the amount of grease contained in the reservoir 2.
In the embodiment according to Figures 3 and 4, the openings 5 for the entry of grease are arranged at the end 14 of the cylinder. The pusher 6 is extended in the form of a sleeve 11. The sleeve is almost as long as the high pressure cylinder 1 itself. said, to the length near the stroke that it is necessary to provide for this socket. The sleeve abuts against the two ends 13 and 14 of the high pressure cylinder. The bush comprises, on the other hand, a drive pawl 12 on the teeth of which moves a flexible transverse pin 8 ', fixed to the high pressure piston 3.
The operation of this press is as follows:
In FIG. 3, under the effect of the advance of the high pressure piston in the direction of arrow 25, grease has been sucked into the high pressure cylinder, from the reservoir 2, through the orifices of suction 5.
3n then pushing the high pressure piston against the action of the spring 4, the latter drives the bush 11 directly upwards thanks to the toothed connection between the transverse axis 8 ′ and the drive pawl 12, by closing the suction ports 5, so that by continuing to exert pressure on the press, the high pressure ejection of the grease is caused
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
contained in the high pressure cylinder, through the longitudinal openings 19 of the high pressure piston 3 open to the outside.
This movement causes the displacement of the axis 8 'on the teeth until the moment when it abuts, as shown in Figure 4, against the upper end of the pawl, position in which the high pressure piston 3 has reached the end. of its race.
By then removing the pressure exerted on the press, that is to say by letting the high pressure piston come back forward under the action of the spring 4, the flexible transverse axis 8 'again drives the bush down thanks to its constitution in the form of a pawl, the sleeve thus abutting against the bottom 13 of the high pressure cylinder. The orifices 5 are thus immediately open to allow a new suction of grease in the high pressure cylinder, The flexible shaft moves, in this movement, on the teeth of the sleeve until it reaches the extreme position following the figure 3.
The bush 11 is also driven on each reversal of the direction of the high pressure piston, so that each of these reversals, even if it does not occur in the normal end positions of the high pressure piston, causes the opening or immediate closing of the suction openings.
In the embodiments according to Figures 5-7, there is also provided a pusher 6, this pusher however abuts, here, against an annular seal 15 provided in the high pressure cylinder 1. The grease inlet from the reservoir 2, in the upper cylinder
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
pressure 1 also takes place through the suction openings 5 arranged in the vicinity of the closed end of the cylinder, these orifices being able to be closed by the plunger.
To the pusher is fixed a traction member 7 'passing in a sealed manner the reduced end 17, closed by a stopper 16, of the high pressure piston,
This reduced end of the high pressure piston has transverse openings 18 opening into the longitudinal bore 19, said transverse openings being able to be closed by a sliding ring 22. This ring 22 has an axis 21, guided in the longitudinal slot 20 'of the end reduced pressure of the high pressure piston. The length of the slot corresponds to the stroke of the ring.
The pin 21 is gripped by the hook-shaped end 23 of the traction member 7 'of the pusher 6 so that the ring 22 only uncovers the transverse openings 18 in the extreme position of the high piston. pressure 3 immediately following the suction, when the suction ports 5 are closed.
The operation of this press is as follows:
In the extreme position of the high pressure piston, shown in figure 5, the high pressure cylinder is already filled with grease, the suction ports 5 being closed, while the holes 18 are open, By exerting a thrust on the bottom 27 of the press, in the direction of arrow 24, that is to say against the action of the spring 4, the grease contained in the high pressure cylinder penetrates, through the transverse openings 18, into the longitudinal perforation 19 of the high pressure piston 'open outwards, to be ejected under pressure

high. The ring 22 remains in the position it occupied and the traction member 7 'of the pusher 6 is simply inserted into the longitudinal hole 19 (see FIG. 6).
In the last region of the high pressure piston stroke (see figure 7), however, the ring 22 pushes the pusher 6 against the closed end of the high pressure cylinder 1, thus opening the orifices 5. The bush 22 is also located. time shifted downward on the reduced end of the high pressure piston ;, so that the transverse openings 18 are closed by this sleeve. When the high pressure piston moves in the direction of arrow 25 (see Figure 7), the pusher 6 remains in the position shown. As a result, the ring 22 retains the same position on the reduced end of the high pressure piston 3. In the suction period, the transverse openings 18 are consequently closed, while the suction ports 5 remain open.
If now we push, by exerting pressure in the direction of arrow 25, the high pressure piston 3 in its cylinder 1, without having given it time to reach its limit position, the grease cannot come out through the hole. longitudinal 19, given that the transverse openings 18 are closed.
The transverse openings 18 are only open when, in the last part of the stroke of the piston, the hook 23 grips the pin 21. The pusher G is thus "pulled into the position shown in FIG. 5, the orifices of suction 5 being closed, while the ring 22 is raised and the transverse openings 18 are open.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 8 - 1a, the end of the high pressure piston also comprises transverse openings 18 opening into the longitudinal bore 19. The end of the piston has, at the location of these transverse openings 18, a flattened part 28. The longitudinal hole 19, closed by a plug 16, serves as a guide for a ring 29. Under this ring 2 $ comes to rest the traction member 711 -du pusher 6, having un.'prolongation 30. The ring 29 is subjected to the action of a stop pin 31 protruding beyond the end 5 of the piston and guided in a sealed manner, exactly in the manner of the traction member, in the stopper 16 .
The pusher 6 abuts, in its limit posirion, against an extension 32 in the form of a stop, located below the suction openings 5.
The operation of this embodiment is as follows: When the high pressure cylinder 1 has been filled with grease, it comes to occupy the position shown in FIG. 8. Cn then pushes back the high pressure piston 3 by exerting a thrust on the bottom 27 of the press, in the direction of arrow 10. The suction openings 5 being closed and the transverse holes 18 open, the grease contained in the high pressure cylinder and in the high pressure piston is expelled under high pressure by the longitudinal bore 19.
During the ejection period, the transverse openings 18 remain constantly open, while the suction openings 5 remain constantly closed, since the traction member 7 "enters the hole.

longitudinal 19 (see figure 9). When the high pressure piston has reached the last section of its stroke (see figure 10), the stop rod 31 hits the bottom 14 of the cylinder ,, so that the pusher 29 is pushed down, in front of the transverse openings 18. At the same time, the end of the high pressure piston 3 abuts against the pusher 6 which it pushes upwards, so that the suction openings 5 are exposed by this pusher.
By ceasing to press on the press, the high pressure piston is pushed forward by the spring, the high pressure cylinder filling with grease through the suction ports 5 which are now open. The transverse openings 18 'are, on the contrary, closed, so there can be no leaks of grease if the high pressure piston starts in the other direction.
The transverse openings 18 are only open in the last section of the stroke, the extension 30 coming into abutment against the ring 29 to / raise, laughing at this very moment, the pusher 6 is also pulled down, in front of the orifices suction 5, the members coming to occupy the position according to Figure 8. In the following discharge stroke, the same operations follow one another as above. our
