<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements to underpants e
This invention relates to underpants whose waistband is provided with elantic tension devices in order to. to automatically adjust to the size of the wearer, although the fabric of the boxer shorts is
EMI1.1
inextensible.
It has already been proposed to obtain this result by means of one or more rubber bands placed either inside a gathered hem, or outside. the belt ,. and mounted removably or not. ¯, -
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
However, it does not appear that hitherto we have succeeded in satisfying at the same time all the conditions which an article of this kind must fulfill in order to be of a convenient and efficient use while remaining in appearance. rational and pleasant and allowing the elastic bands to be easily removed and replaced in order to prevent them from being damaged in the laundry.
In particular, it should be avoided - the unsightly puckering of the waistband, the presence of wide slits, the need to slide the elastic bands with difficulty through long hemlines, the presence of visible bands over a relatively long length on the outside underpants ,. etc.
According to the present invention the inextensible belt of the boxer shorts is interrupted, preferably on each side over a length corresponding just to the desired extension, while the parts of the body of the boxer shorts adjacent to cases of continuity are continuous, and short bands of elastic fabrics are engaged by their two ends inside the belt and are attached thereto in an easily removable manner, for example by means of buttons and buttonholes provided near said solutions of continuity,
The advantages of this arrangement emerge from an examination of the attached drawing which shows by way of example only one embodiment of the boxer shorts according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial elevation of one side of the underpants and a separate elastic band.
Fig. 2 is a following longitudinal section.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
line. II-II of fig, 1, the elastic band being in place but the belt being loose.
Fig. 3 is a partial elevation analogous to fig: 1, the belt being provided with its elastic bands and taut :. a designates the side part of the boxer shorts which is adjacent to the belt b, this part and this belt being made of inextensible fabric. The belt is interrupted over- a length of a few centimeters, between points A and B, while the adjacent part is continue
The belt is preferably made in double thickness and buttonholes c d are formed in its outer wall bI in the vicinity of points A and B.
The elastic tightening of the belt is ensured, on each side of the boxer shorts, by means of an elastic band of fabric a whose ends are intended to be inserted between the two walls b1, b2 of the belt and are provided with corresponding buttons fg buttonholes. ± d.
The distance between the buttons f g, when the band e. is not tensioned, is of course smaller than the distance between the buttonholes cd when the belt is tensioned (fig. 1) so that when this belt is released, the ends AB come closer (fig. 2) and the adjacent part 4 of the underpants is obliged to form a fold or sort of pocket a1. When the boxer shorts are buttoned on the wearer, the belt is stretched, the bandas. !! elongated and the folds a1 erased (fig. 3).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Under these conditions, the elastic tension device does not in any way change the boxer shorts because it does not have any folds or gathers, and the band a, the end parts of which are hidden in the waistband, only show its middle portion which is da short length and slightly set back.
The positioning of the band e is easy because its ends alone must be inserted into the hem of the belt and its removal is also easy. There is therefore no reason for neglecting to remove the elastic bands before sending the underpants to the laundry, as is to be feared in the event that the disassembly and reassembly of the bands are difficult or tedious.
Without departing from the invention, it will of course be possible to make some variations to the embodiment shown, for example having a single button instead of two on each end of the strip a or using other fastening members, vary the cut of the constituent parts of the boxer shorts, provide an elastic band at a single point of the belt, or on the contrary provide both on the sides and at the back, use a belt in a single layer, comprising or no. small pockets to accommodate the ends of elastic bands etc.
