"Horizontal shaft centrifuge"
The invention relates to a horizontal shaft centrifuge.
With regard to known machines of this kind
it was essential, in consideration of the vibrations that occur, to ensure that the shaft of the centrifuge and the drive shaft mounted in its extension and carrying for example a pulley, are each supported by two bearings and interconnected by an elastic coupling. However, this method of construction has the drawback that the speed of rotation must be relatively low,
otherwise the coupling wears too much.
The invention consists in that the bottom of the bowl or drum, which bottom is substantially flat, comprises a counterweight such that the shaft of the bowl is supported at the center of gravity of the latter. This construction makes it possible to fix the bowl on the drive shaft, for which two bearings are enough, the middle of one of which coincides with the center of gravity of the bowl. despite this simplicity of construction, a centrifuge according to the invention can withstand speeds considerably greater than those of known centrifuges, because no vibration can occur, thanks to the position of the center of gravity of the bowl. This makes it possible, in particular in the case of electric machines, to fix the rotor of the electric motor directly on the shaft of the bowl, that is to say without elastic coupling, without the rotor running the risk of rubbing against the stator.
The single figure of the accompanying drawing is a view of an embodiment of the invention.
The horizontal shaft 3, which carries the armature 4 of the motor, as well as the bowl or drum 5 of the centrifuge, rotates in two bearings, one of which, the one designated by 6, is carried by the left flange 7 of the motor, while the other, which is designated by 8, is carried by the right flange 9 of the motor, which flange is stamped.
The bottom 11 of the bowl is flat, except for a central bulge for fixing the end of the shaft. So that the center of gravity 12 of the bowl coincides with the center of the bearing 8, the cylindrical wall of the bowl extends beyond the bottom 11 and at this point it comprises a heavy ring 16 serving as a counterweight.
The unloading of the bowl 5 is carried out by means of a knife 14 comprising a guide plate 13 and a screw
15 allows to press into the material which has deposited inside the bowl.
