  AMELIORATION DU SYSTEME DE SELF DES RECEPTEURS DE RADIO à GAMMES :MULTIPLES ET

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   Il faut remarquer, d'autre part, que lorsque la partie secondaire du système augmente progressivement jusqu'aux gammes inférieures des fréquences, la section primaire de la gamme précédente à fréquence plus élevée est utilisée comme partie du secondaire de la gamme voisine des fréquences plus faibles;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  IMPROVEMENT OF THE SELF SYSTEM OF RADIO RECEIVERS WITH RANGES: MULTIPLE AND
SIMILAR DEVICES.

   This invention relates to choke systems for multi-range receivers and similar apparatus and aims to provide an improved system characterized in that a minimum number of coils or windings is required. necessary for the tuning of several circuits in different frequency ranges or wavelength bands.

   Another object of this invention is to provide an improved and simplified choke system for high frequency circuits spanning multiple frequency ranges such as those used in multi-range radio receivers and the like.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   A third object of this invention is to provide an improved choke system for tuned HF circuits whereby the same choke can be tuned over several of the different frequency ranges and suitable for service in any range chosen by means of 'a simple connector.

   A fourth object of the invention is to provide a simplified and improved means of coupling and tuning multi-range RF circuits.

   The invention will be better understood by referring to the following description and to the drawings which accompany it, given simply by way of example and in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagram of a choke system characterizing the invention and serving for the coupling of two H.F.

   Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are analog diagrams which show the connections of the circuit when suitable for work in each of the different frequency ranges or wavelength bands.

   In Fig. 1, 5 is an electronic discharge amplifier device, that is to say a lamp, to which is connected a gate circuit represented by the conductor 7 and an anode circuit represented by the conductor%. Apparatus 5 represents any H.F. device having an input circuit to which it is desired to couple a preceding circuit to transmit to it the high frequency signals from several frequency ranges or wavelengths. In the current example, 5 represents the HF amplifier lamp of a radiophonic reception system to which it is desired to couple a signal source such as antenna 11.

   According to the invention, the coupling between the antenna and the lamp 5 is effected by means of a single coil forming an adjustable coupling transformer. Its single winding is provided with taps or arranged so as to obtain several coaxial sections as indicated for example at 13, 15, 17 and 19. The coil system may include an uninterrupted winding sectioned by appropriate intermediate taps 21, 23 and 25, between the ends 27 and 29.

   The single winding is employed as a coupling transformer by connecting an input circuit, from the antenna for example, to the end 29 of the winding while the opposite end 27 is connected to a secondary circuit. or output which is, in this case, the gate circuit

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 represented by the conductor 7 connected to the amplifier lamp 5. Means suitable for simple switching are provided so that the earth or the low potential side of the input and output circuits is gradually connected between the input and the output of winding.

   There is also a simple means of short-circuiting whereby unused parts of the winding remain in circuit but are gradually short-circuited after grounding or after the gradual change of tap.

   In the current example, the input, i.e. gate conductor 7, is connected to end 27 and to a variable conductor 31 which in turn is connected to the low voltage side of the input and output connection represented by a ground connection 33. The antenna is coupled to the opposite end 29 of the winding through a coupling capacitor 35 and a conductor 37. from the antenna are applied to the blades of a coupling resistor 39 inserted between the antenna and the low potential side of the input and output circuits for the coil system, this side being represented by the earth connection 41.

   The intermediate sockets 21, 23 and 25 are respectively connected to the contact points 34, 45 and 47 of a switch for the choice of the frequency range to which the arm 49 is connected, via a conductor 51 and d A capacitor 53, at the low potential side of the input and output system described above and represented by the earth connection 55.

   The capacitor 53 has a relatively low impedence with respect to the signals for all the frequencies included in the different ranges to be covered by the tuning system.With this arrangement it will be seen that, if the contact arm 49 progressively goes from contact 47 at contact 45 and at the Indicated position, a low impedance path leading to earth and to the low potential side of the system, will be connected progressively from a point closer to the input end to a point closer to the 'output end, thereby switching on, with the tuning capacitor 31 and with the output circuit of the choke system, a number of sections of the winding progressively reduced, so that the output circuit is gradually tunable in high frequency ranges.

   In the current example, the link has been shown for the highest frequency range,
It will be found that a greater number of sections of the winding are inserted at the same time between the input end 29 and the earth or the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 return conductor of the input or antenna circuit. Naturally, the arrangement is such that each section can constitute a primary winding to be associated with the windings of the output circuit serving as a secondary, this primary winding being able to resonate at approximately half of the lowest frequency of the range of frequencies to cover with each position of switch 49.

   Likewise, for each setting, the sections of the coil, other than that which is adjacent to the sections forming the secondary winding, are short-circuited by means of a similar combiner which comprises the contacts 57, 59 and 61 on which a A pair of spaced contacts 63 move from the position shown in the direction of contact 61. Contact 59 is connected to socket 25, as shown, while contact 57 is connected to socket 23.

   According to this arrangement, in the position shown, the sections 17 and 19 of the coil are short-circuited so that the antenna is coupled to the tap 23. Consequently, the choke 15 constitutes a primary winding while the choke 13 forms a secondary winding, the two being electromagnetically coupled as a result of their coaxial arrangement as parts of a single winding or choke,
Each section can be provided with an individual shunt tuning capacitor (as indicated at 65) by which each section of the coil can be adjusted to the secondary for reception of the highest frequency in the range, the main tuning capacitor 31 controlling the total range covered for each setting.

   In order that the unused sections of the choke system can be progressively short-circuited according to the progressive adjustment of the low potential tap, the combiners 49 and 63 can be made integral by a mechanical link, as indicated by the dotted line 67.

   Note that the coil system is isolated from the gate and from the low potential side of the system by means of capacitors 35 and 53 whereby a bias or control voltage can be applied to the lamp 5 through the capacitor. 69 passing through the coil as required by the automatic volume control, In the current example, the input circuit 7 is connected to the signal and to the control grid 71 of the lamp 5.

   The antenna coupling capacitor 35 and the impotence or

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 coupling resistor 39 providing the additional advantage that interference signals at low acoustic frequency, such as a 60 period / second hum, picked up by the antenna or by the input circuit, cannot reach the gate 71 of lamp 5 since they cannot easily pass through the relatively high low-frequency iinpedance of coupling capacitor 35. For this reason, the value of this capacitor is relatively low; it is therefore sufficient to create a relatively low impedance for the range of high frequencies received and relatively high for signals at acoustic frequency.

   In Figs. 3 and 4, the system of fig, 1 is shown - for the three positions of the combiners 49 and 63 and the same indices are therefore used for identical things. It should be noted that the combiners have been moved progressively from left to right with respect to the indications in fig.1; the resulting connections are shown, in order, in figs 2, 3 and 4, the latter representing the connections when the combiners are in the position shown in fig.1.

   It should be noted, on the other hand, that when the secondary part of the system gradually increases to the lower frequency ranges, the primary section of the previous higher frequency range is used as the secondary part of the neighboring higher frequency range. weak;

   thanks to this the number of sections of the secondary increases progressively and, by means of the short-circuiting combiner, the primary is maintained in a section close to the section or sections of this secondary,
In other words, the primary section changes progressively along the coil or winding from a position near the end of the secondary and up to a position at the entry end. , the short-circuits also taking place in a progressive manner from the input end of the winding.

   This results in a great simplification of the winding and of the switching means; In fact, only one winding is needed, provided with taps to which the low potential side of the input and output circuits is successively connected, the input and output circuits being connected to the opposite ends of the coil, The connections the input and output circuit, that is to say their high potential sides, must not be cut or modified, depending on the choke system, by means of the switch; only the low potential sides need to be changed or adjusted.

   When it is desired to increase the size of the primary winding provided with any range of frequencies, it can be done by changing the taps n its

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 for the shorting combiner 63, as indicated by the dotted lines 73 and 75 of Fig. 1 which may be desirable for coupling the lamp 5, for example, to other circuits.
