 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

  Planetary gear driven winch mechanism.

   The present invention relates to a winch mechanism controlled by planetary gears. Most often, planetary gear drives have three elements: a driving element, for example the drive pinion, a controlled element, for example the outer ring gear and, in addition, a support element for the planet gears, with the satellites themselves. It is possible to execute commands by planetary gears comprising a number of elements greater than three, one of the elements being there in duplicate; onepeut for example employ two pinions of attack or two external toothed wheels: laughing.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   According to the invention, such a control by planetary gears, the number of elements of which is greater than three, is used to effect a change of speed of the winch drums without passing through a free fall position. To this end, two elements, which belong to a planetary gear drive comprising at least four elements and which, when they are not moving, cause the brake drum to rotate in the same direction, are made capable of being braked in an obligatory alternating manner, for example by means of a pad controller. This prevents simultaneous release of the two brakes. Switching from one brake to another allows a gear change without going through a free fall position and without shocks.

   The use of this planetary gear drive for single motor clamshell winches still results in special advantages in removing slack from the suspension cables while the bucket is picking up material and after it has finished. has taken, as well as during lifting and lowering of the body. The drive by plenary gears then serves both as a compensating transmission and as a rigid coupling between the two drums.

   The accompanying drawing shows in Figures I to 6, two, iodes of execution of the inv ention. In this drawing, Figures I to 3 show a winch mechanism for a two-cable clamshell operated by a single motor, while Figures 4 to 6 show a winch mechanism with a single drum and three-phase current control.

   The planetary gear drive of the winch mechanism according to Figures I to 3 consists of a casing a with ring gear b having internal teeth and external teeth. The planet carrier c carries a gear at several speeds or steps, one of which, designated by d, meshes with the internal teeth of the crown wheel b while the other step, designated by e does not mesh with the crown wheel

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 toothed. In the support of the satellites c penetrate two shafts f and g. The shaft f is controlled by a motor h and on this shaft is wedged the drive pinion i, which meshes with the step e of the multi-step gear. The shaft?, Surrounds the ar- brief and on this shaft is wedged the drive pinion k which meshes with the step d of the multi-step gear.

   Between the shaft f and the motor h is mounted a coupling 1.On the hollow shaft ± there is a brake m. Another brake n is connected to the satellite support c.

   The winch mechanism for the cables of the gripping body comprises a drum ± for the suspension cable, which drum is controlled by means of a gear p from the outer teeth of the ring gear b of the housing a .

  On the gear transmission shaft there is a brake q. The drum r of the cable for closing the skip is controlled, by means of a gear transmission s, from a pinion t wedged on the hollow shaft ±.

   The mode of operation of this clamshell winch mechanism and in particular also the mode of operation of the new planetary gear drive emerges from the following:
The motor h controls, via the coupling 1, the shaft f. The toothed wheels i, e, d and b and the gear transmission p act on the drum o of the suspension cable and, at the same time, via the shaft f and the toothed wheels i, e, d and k, the hollow shaft g ,, the pinion t and the transmission s on the drum r of the cable for closing the bucket.

   To raise and lower the clamshell, immobilize by applying brake n. the satellite support c, whereby the two cable drums are connected and made completely integral. This completely integral coupling of the two cable drums can take place in any position of the clamshell. The lifting and lowering of the clamshell can, with the brake n applied, take place in

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 any position of the clamshell from the closed position to the open position of this clamshell.

   When the bucket lowered, over the bulk material, and open must close, the three brakes m, n and q remain released. The shaft f then controls, together with the cable drum r, the cable drum o by means of the pinion, the attack 1 and the steps or degrees e, d. Since the brake n is released, the gear train under stress acts as a compensating transmission, the gear ratio of which is chosen, for example, at 1: .10. In particular,
 EMI4.1
 on cholnit- Le rupport nail d1 / l! n, L: rufJ fiu la <; 1> .cooil'éi,> n <; <; ji> "1, activates the two steps e and d so that the torque of the drum of the suspension cables is such that these cables are just still stretched during the closing movement of the clamshell.

   While the latter is sinking into the material it must grab, the head of the bucket exerts traction on the suspension cables; Under these conditions, the smallest pull exerted on these cables causes the drum of the suspension cables to rotate against the torque, in the direction of descent, and the length of suspension cable necessary for the penetration of the bucket is released. on the drum.

  Shortly before the end of the closing stroke, the brake n is applied by means of a switch combined with the winch and the satellite support c is brought to rest. At this moment, the suspension cables do not undergo only, as has been admitted, 1/40 of the tension for closing: but, by a suitable adjustment, approximately half of the tension exerted on the cable of closing.

   By this arrangement, the clamshell goes, without switching on or off the intermediate circuit, from the closing movement to the lifting movement.

   It is not necessary to switch off and on

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 bakes the motor armature between closing and lifting, making the crane operator's task lighter and freeing up energy for acceleration work.

   To change from the lowering movement of the full clamshell to the opening movement, it suffices to apply the brake of the suspension cable drum, after which the clamshell opens without switching on the motor.

   When the brake corresponding to the suspension cable drum o is applied, it is possible to open and close the clamshell without further maneuver while it is in the air. When lifting and lowering the open clamshell, the g and m brakes must be released, while the n brake is applied. The clamshell then remains open during the lifting or lowering movement, because the suspension and closing cables are desmodromically connected by the gear train and cannot perform relative reciprocal movement.

   The engine is preferably controlled by means of a slide (control cylinder combined with a selector cylinder). FIG. 3 shows in the form of a connection diagram the different possible control operations of the motor. The slide-guided push-button control lever controls, simultaneously with the engine control cylinder, the control cylinder or the selection cylinder of the brake electromagnets.

   By sliding and tilting the push-button control lever in the slide, the following series of operations are thus obtained successively: I) Lifting of the open bucket; lowering of the open bucket; 2) Closing and lifting; lowering and opening the bucket; 3) Closing in the air; The opening in the air.

   For the rest, we will refer to the legends of the fig-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 re 3 related to it.

   As shown in figure 3, the use of the new begin. of planetary gear, simplifies the operation of the winch assembly from many points of view and thus makes its operation particularly safe.

   Figures 4 to 6 show another embodiment of the planetary gear drive. The housing a has a ring b with internal teeth with which engages, in this case, the wheel e of the pair of gear change wheels e, d. The wheel e meshes with the toothed wheel i of the driven shaft f, while the other wheel d meshes with the toothed wheel k of the hollow shaft g. On the latter is a brake m; a coupling 1 makes it possible to engage and disengage the engine h. The journal of the satellite support ± is extended by an end of the axle; it carries a brake n as well as a coupling u engaging with a toothed wheel v carried by the housing a and can connect the brake rigidly with the satellite support c. The toothed wheel v controls the winch o.

   With the help of this winch mechanism intended to operate on three-phase current, it is possible to achieve, by the corresponding actuation of the m and n brakes or of the u, v coupling, lifting or lowering movements, fast or slow at will, without having to change the number of engine revolutions.

   When the brake m is applied, the toothed wheel k remains in place and the toothed wheel d controlled by means of the shaft f and the toothed wheels i and e rotates on the toothed wheel k, the wheel toothed e rotating at the same time the toothed ring b of the housing a and, by means of the toothed wheel v, the drum o. When the brake n is applied (the brake m being released and the coupling u, v disconnected), the planet carrier ± is at rest and, with it, the stepped wheel shaft e, d. The internal teeth b of the housing a then move @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 at the same peripheral speed as that of the teeth of toothed wheel i; the toothed wheel k and the hollow shaft g turn idle in this case.

   The coupling u, v also provides the possibility of a third control of the drum o. When the housing a and the satellite support ± are rigidly coupled (the brakes m and n being released), the gear train itself 'remains stationary inside the housing a and the toothed wheel v is directly controlled. by the motor, by means of the shaft f, to the. same angular speed and in the same direction of rotation as the motor
By choosing the transmission ratios of the gear train, the most suitable transmission ratio and speed conditions can be set for any winch mechanism.

   FIG. 6 schematically shows the simplicity of the control of such a winch. By means of a single control lever guided by a slide, the movements and speeds indicated in this figure can be performed in a safe manner. Thus, by sliding and tilting the control lever in the slide, the following movements and speeds are carried out successively from different starting positions:
I) Lifting at full load and low betrayal ratio
Full load descent with high transmission ratio and high frictional resistance.

   2) Lifting light loads with an empty hook, at maximum speed and disengaged transmission.

   Low load descanbe, large transmission ratio and high friction resistance.

   3) Descent with empty hook, at maximum speed and disengaged transmission.

   For the rest, refer to the legends in Figure 6.

   In the spirit of the aforementioned examples, one can imagine

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 more forces to execute the new command by planetary gears capable of a greater number of combinations of commands. Thus, in the planetary gears shown in Figures I and 4, it is also possible to provide a third or a third and a fourth input pinions which each have a special shaft and which, in this case, come into engagement. all three or all four with a support of satellites to three or four steps at speeds. The various shafts carrying the drive gears can be extended out of the housing by different sides and be provided with an individual control or with specific brakes.
