 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 du haut vers le bas, et vice-versa;

   Les dispositifs provoquant le mouvement alterna- tif de la cuiller   sont caractérisée   en ce qu'ils comprennent;
1  un arbre fileté tournant sur le-quel est appliqué un man- ahan, empêché de tourner, mais pouvant exécuter un mouvement axial, 2  un entratneur qui est en prise avec l'arbre fileté de   façon à;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

II   fig.l)   et partiellement en coupe verti- cale axiale par rapport à l'axe du récipient; la fig.3 montre à plus grande échelle, partiellement en vus extérieure etpartiellement en coupe axiale, une particularité de l'arbre de com- mande de la cuiller et des éléments y reliés; la fig. 4 montre une vue, dans la direction de la flê- che IV, fig.3, de l'entraîneur faisant prise su l'arbre à double filetage;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 de la cuiller autour de son axe aux extrémités de.des courses;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

  Automatic machine for making ice cream.

   The present invention relates to an automatic machine, powered by a motor, for the production of ice cream. The machine in question is of the type where a container containing the mixture intended to be transformed into ice, is surrounded by a cooling liquid, and where it is necessary to continuously detach from the inner wall of said container the part of frozen mixture remained in contact with this wall and then extend another part on this wall. Such an operation is very tiring and it must be carried out with care and continuity if a satisfactory result is to be obtained.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The machine according to the invention is first of all characterized by the presence of means intended to make the container turn around its axis, and this, either to constantly bring new parts of the mixture to be set in contact with the outer surface of the container. , is; and in particular, to impart to the inner surface of said container a relative movement with respect to the element intended to continuously detach the mixture, to stir it and to extend it again on the inner wall of the container. ; the machine in question is also characterized by the presence of means capable of imparting to the spoon movements suitable for carrying out said operation.

     This machine is further characterized by the presence of means, applied to the outside of said container and actuated by the machine itself, which are intended to continuously stir the cooling mixture so as to cooperate effectively to always bring new parts of the machine. this mixture in contact with the outer wall of the container.

   With regard to the device for detaching the mixture from the wall of the container, stirring it and spreading another portion of the mixture on said wall, a device which may be in the form of a spoon or an arm or also have a Another suitable conformation, the machine is characterized by the presence of means for the actuation of this device, which are in operative relation with the means intended to control the container and which are such that the spoon moves. @a alternatively

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 from top to bottom, and vice versa;

   these means are, moreover, such that when the spoon reaches the end of each of its strokes, it receives partial rotational movements around its axis so as to obtain that, during the movement from top to bottom, the spoon can scrape the mixture which has frozen and which has remained adherent to the inner wall of the container, while, in the reverse movement, the spoon spreads the previously scraped mixture and brings it back against the inner wall of the container.

   Such an operation also has the effect of stirring the mixture.

   The speed of rotation of the container around its axis and that of the reciprocating movements of the spoon are determined so that, at each cycle of the movement of the spoon, the latter can preferably slide along generatrices which are always different on the surface in - outer container. On the other hand, the pitch of the heliooidal movement of the active edge of the spoon on the interior surface of the container can be established so that, on each downward stroke of the spoon, said surface is completely free of the frozen mixture. which had remained adherent to the surface itself.

   Devices causing the reciprocating movement of the spoon are characterized in that they include;
1 a threaded shaft rotating on which a man- ahan is applied, prevented from rotating, but capable of executing an axial movement, 2 a drive which is engaged with the threaded shaft so as to;

  poor, thanks to this grip, accomplish the desired and planned movements, The devices for controlling the movements of the spoon at the end of its alternating strokes

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 tives, are characterized in that they are obtained by means of an element moving with the spoon and cooperating with appropriate stops permanently fixed on the support of the machine and arranged so that at the end of each stroke, this element or actuated by said stops, which produces partial rotational movements of the stem of the spoon.

   According to an embodiment described below by way of example only, the threaded shaft controlling the spoon comprises two threads with opposite inclinations connecting to the ends of the threads, while the aforementioned driver is 4 constantly in engagement with the 'one of these threads and passes from one to the other when it reaches the end of the one who controls it.

   It follows that the regular operation of the machine depends, among other things, on the reciprocal position of the container and the spoon; in order to ensure that the position is exactly that desired, the machine comprises an orientation member which, by means of one of its parts determines the position of the container and by means of the other part the position of the upright. the machine and therefore indirectly that of all the other parts of the machine.

   Such a feature, in addition to ensuring perfect operation, as already stated, also makes it possible to remove a component from the machine and replace it temporarily with another, until this component has been replaced. have been Fez repaired or ironed or, in general, put in condition to function regularly; what we have just said is obviously valid for the case of mass production. The above execution mode also allows, after /)

 the disengaging of the control shaft connected to the container by means of the shaft which actuates it, to move laterally the entire upper part of the machine, so as to allow the refrigeration container to be easily repositioned of the mixture.

 of the spoon around its axis at the ends of the races;

   fig.7 shows in side view, in the direction of arrow VII fig. 2, the upper outer part of the machine, and finally fig.8 shows a detail of the device on a larger scale. referring more particularly to the method of axis- execution shown by way of example, there is in 1 the upright of the machine which is applied, by threading from the top, on a vertical journal 2 connected to the base which is applied to the shot 4 of bench or other similar object; the upright 1 is fixed in position by means of the hand pressure screw 39. The base 3 is integral with a collar 5 for guiding and centering the container intended to contain the mixture to be transformed into ice.

   By means of a motor 7, a transmission 8 and the belts 9 and 10, the shaft 11 is rotated which, by means of the pinions 12, rotates the vertical shaft 13; the latter, by means of the toothed couple 14, rotates the vertical shaft 15 provided with a double thread 16, 17 with not affixed; the two threads are connected to each other at their lower and upper ends. A mancon 18, surrounds the shaft 15 and has a length 19 that the plate 20 can close and in which is housed the cylindrical block 21 comprising the elongated projection 22 capable of engaging the furrows or channels at opposite inclinations of the threads formed on it. tree 15.

   The two vertical rods 23 are integral with the sleeve 18 and to the lower part of these rods are fixed the glasses 24 joined together by means of the arm.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 25 which carries, suitably inclined with respect to the vertical axis of the machine, a sleeve 26 axially perforated and in which is housed, movable in the axial direction, the rod 27 of the spoon 28, the working edge 29 of which is attached ( in order to allow the substitution if necessary) and fixed by retaining means 30. A spring 31 is interposed between the upper end of the rod 27 and the end of the handle 32 adjustable in position to hand and screwed into the nut 33 of the sleeve 26.

   The vertical rods 23 extend upwards; these rods are guided vertically in guide pins 23 '; this prevents the rotation of monohon 18.

   The shaft 13 is connected, at its lower end, by means of the seal 34 and a flute mouthpiece 35 to the lower shaft 13 'which passes through the bottom of the container 6 to which it is connected in a sealed manner. by means of the key 6 'and the fixing nut; the shaft 13 'is then extended by a part 16 "on which is mounted a stirrer 36 for the refrigerant mixture, this stirrer possibly comprising vanes. The lower end 13" of the shaft is supported by a support 37 connected to collar 5 by means of arms 38.

   A threaded journal, controlled by the handle 39 serves, as indicated above, to fix the upright 1 to the journal 2 or to release it, either to remove or to rotate the upright 1 laterally.

   Inside the sleeve 26 is arranged, so as to be able to turn around its axis, a sleeve 6 '

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 having on its inner surface uhe longitudinal groove in which the key 26 "of the rod 27 is moved along, which can thus receive an axial sliding movement with respect to the sleeve 26 'and will be forced to follow it in its rotations? 26 'is provided with a lug pin 41 (Fig. 6) projecting from its outer surface and engaging with the helically shaped groove 42 of a cylindrical body 43 fixedly mounted on the shaft 44, that this rotating in the support 45 forming part of the block 24-25.

   On the outside of the shaft 44, is fixed by means of the nut 46, a double cam element 47 rigidly connected to the shaft 44; laterally and in contact with said element 47, there is a slide 48 with a flat surface 49 sliding along the flat surface of a rule 50 fixed in an adjustable manner on blocks 51 of the upright.

   The salient parts :! of the two cams 47 slide on one of the lateral surfaces of the rule 50 which is crossed, at its two ends, at suitable points @ corresponding to the ends of the strokes of the mahchon 18 by two pins with heads 51 'and 510; springs blade 52 fixed in their middle at 53 hold the pins so that their rounded ends protrude above the sliding surface of the rule; the tâtas 54 of the pins limit their movement and consequently the length of their protruding part.

   In order to allow the cams 47 to slide in one direction of movement, over these projections and to obtain that, during their movement in the affixed direction, they cooperate with these bristles so as to receive a rotational movement and to transmit this movement to shaft 44 and to

   (cylindrical block 43, these cams have, as shown in fig.8, a substantially trapezoidal cross section, their surfaces facing the rule 30 being bevelled.

  The operation of the device is as follows: The rotation of the motor produces the rotation of the shafts 13-13 'and of the threaded rod 15; the rotation of the shafts 13-13 'produces the continuous rotation of the container 6 and the continuous riddling of the refrigerant mixture in contact with the outer surface of the container 6. The rotation of the threaded shaft 15 forces the driver 21, the sleeve 18 and the spoon 28, as well as the double cam member 47 to automatically perform reciprocating up and down movements. A little before the arrival of the sleeve 18 at the lower or upper end of one of its races, the cam pawl 47 comes through one of its cams in engagement with the shaft of the head pins 51 ', 51 ", and surpasses it, thanks to the inclination of its aforementioned sliding surface and thanks to the watering (fig. 8) of the pins 51 ', 51".

  Then occurs the reversal of the movement of the sleeve 18, the spoon 28 and the cam element 47; this one will then bubble by the interior surface of the cam against the pin 51 ', or 51 ", which will force it to turn around its axis 44 and until, until the end of the cam can pass in front of the pin Such a rotation will also turn the cylindrical body 43, the groove 42 of which, acting on the lug 41, will in turn cause a partial rotation of the sleeve 26 'and of the rod 27 of the spoon 28.

  The combination of reciprocating movements reactivates

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 lines of the spoon and of its partial rotations in two opposite directions at the ends of said reciprocating movements ensure that during the movement of lowering the spoon 28 into its scraping position, its active edge 29 slides constantly, with a slight contact, on a helical line of the interior surface of the container 6, completely removing therefrom the frozen mixture which had remained adherent; on the other hand, during the upward movement of the spoon, carried out while it occupies a new scraping position, it spreads the mixture against the inner wall of the container 6 and remains in this position until 'at the end of the race.

   The ratio between the gears 14 and the pitch of the threaded shaft 15 is chosen so that each time the spoon 28 completes a stroke, for example downwards, it always comes to slide on a different helical line on the inner surface of the spoon. container 6, as well as, and in particular, such that the helix depicted on the inner surface of the container 6 is at such a step as to substantially obtain the detachment of the frozen mixture from the entire inner wall of the body 6.

   In addition, the different transmission ratios are chosen so that the duration of the movement of the spoon in the direction in which it extends is of sufficient length to allow just the complete freezing of a layer of thickness to occur. suitable mixture on the inner wall of the container 6.

   Thanks to the presence of the members 34, 35, 2 and 39, it is possible, after the sleeve 34 has been slid axially, -

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

 rotate the upright of the machine with the entire upper part of it around the journal 2 so as to allow the container 6 to be quickly and easily lifted upwards.

   Although for descriptive reasons the present invention has been based on what has just been described and on the accompanying drawings, practical modifications can be made in carrying out the invention itself. Thus, for example, by employing a single shaft serving either as a control means for the container or as a means for actuating the spoon, the arrangement of a double thread with opposite pitch can be replaced by an au- be an appropriate system capable of imparting upward and downward movements to the spoon.

   A mechanism of this kind co-carries, for example, a headed pin connected on one side to the spoon shaft and on the other to a vertically movable endless belt, said pin, printing, during its upward movements and downwards, movements similar to a spoon. The cylinder 43 grooved at 42 and the lug pin 41 can be replaced by any other system and, at the ends of the groove 42, it is possible to have the extended parts 42 'with a pitch concentric with the axis of rotation of the. shaft 44 to retain the slang pin 41 and the parts connected to it when it reaches the dead points of its strokes.

   In addition, one of the grooves of the shaft 15 can be given a pitch different from that adopted for the other groove of this shaft; the bottom of the container 6 may have a conical conformation 55 with the top penetrating into the hollow of the container 6,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 in order to avoid in this container a neutral zone in which the spoon would not act, thus causing the accumulation of a part of the mixture which would not have been worked; you can adopt several spoons instead of just one.

   All these modifications and others should be considered to be included in the basic principles of the invention as summarized below.
