Phare orientable.

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The orientable headlight object of the invention, fig 1, consists of two groups of members, a fixed and a mobile, which include certain members common to the other headlights. The fixed assembly consists of a half-spherical lens A and a half-spherical cap B.
The mobile assembly consists of a parabolic reflector C, a lamp D as headlight and code, a socket, common, where the wires F coming from the insulating tube I are fixed, forming one unit with the central rod H controlling the swivel assembly, with a shoulder G where the rod H.
The rod is actuated by the N joint, controlled either: by the brake drum, by the coupling bar, by the steering wheel, or by a lever actuated by the driver, fig 4, and by means of a rigid rod or sheathed cable.

The fixed set includes, the ÔodÉÉéÔÔ9refluerùiant the system for lighting without bending the wires, the collar K, the fixing nuts L, the M wires (headlight or code) connected to the batteries, the negative being to the mass and a door or circle U.
The electrical system which is contained in the box J comprises: fig 2, two segments a and a 'good conductors, mounted on the insulating tube I and each have a sector b and b' of insulating material which cuts the current automatically when the headlight is oriented in the axis of the vehicle, this one walking in a straight line, a safety margin being left so that the headlight does not light up in the small movements of the steering wheel. The segment controls the headlight lighting and the segment has the coded lighting.
Alternatively, the electrical system can be formed as shown in fig 3. A fixed device comprises four double curved plates forming a good conductive spring, two c, c 'connected to the flagship wire M of the batteries, and two d, d' connected to the wire code M 'of the batteries. These plates c, d, c ', d', are separated by the insulator F.
The central rod H of the mobile system is integral with the insulating tube I by the washers P and the mobile plates, the wires make contact at R, R 'with the good' conductive mobile plates 0 supplying the headlight terminal (lamp) and 0 ' supplying the code terminal (, lamp), passing through the tube I exit in S to go to the terminals. The pivot T ensures the orientation, it can be ball.
As stated above, the control can be automatic or executed by the driver. The system used in this case comprises ,, fig 4, a fixed plate e, a movable lever f, a socket ± in which a ball and a spring are housed, three small holes forming a stopper when the ball comes part of it, an axis, .if a cable, k a sheath.
Following this first execution, the operation is as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The outer shell and the glass remain fixed, only the parabolic reflector orients itself, either automatically or by manual control, at the same angle as the direct wheels when they are steered in bends.
When the headlight is oriented in the axis of the vehicle, it walking in a straight line, no current is communicated to the lamp, even if the current is on, because the coil springs are in contact with the insulating sectors b, b 'of the electrical system fig 2, or the movable plates 0,0', fig 3 are not in contact with the fixed plates c, d.
In a bend, the segments move and the sectors a, a 'good conductors come into contact with the coil springs and establish the current to the lamp (system of fig 2) or else the movable plates 0, O' come in contact with the coil springs. contact with the fixed plates forming a spring c, c ', d, d' (system of fig 3) and the current passes through the lamp.
The hand control system, fig 4, allows the headlight to be oriented before turning by pushing the lever to the right or to the left, the cable pulls and orients the headlight, the average position of the lever corresponding to the position of the headlight steers in the axis of the vehicle it walking in a straight line.
The rotating electrical system being inside the lighthouse, this mobile unit is sheltered from rain, mud and dust; it can also be placed outside.
In the daytime, this headlight gives the impression of being fixed while being orientable thanks to the possibility of orientation with the parabolic reflector in the very bomb glass.
The central rod H can be actuated by a rack system to replace 1 N joint, the headlight being placed on a tube, the whole system as well as the wires.
N, N 'are housed in this tube, insulated against the weather.
An embodiment of this system has been shown in FIG. 5, 1 indicates a tube enclosing said system, a toothed wheel or a toothed fan, n a rack, 2. a

ring, a control rod, H being the central movable rod of the headlight.
Fig. 6 According to a second embodiment, the lighthouse still consists, in its essential parts, of the semi-spherical glass A, of the cap B joined together 4 by the door or circle U. The reflector C is completed by a movable cover 1 in the form of a sleeve, pivoting with it and hiding the whole mechanism, to the right when the reflector is to the left and vice versa.
Glass A, which gives an orientation field of 180, has at its upper part, as at its lower part, a frosted portion to hide what the movable cover 1 could not provide. Only the central part, facing the reflector, is transparent along the horizontal, to allow the light rays to sweep the field to the right and to the left.
The reflector C is provided with a barrel C 'in one piece with the reflector, forming a socket and provided at its lower part with a sleeve 2 for fixing the pivoting axis H provided above and which controls the orientation of the reflector.
The electrical device is modified and reduced to the organs intended only to ensure the coded lighting, instead of the powerful fire of the headlight. The device is thus simplified.
On the H axis, immediately above a support 3, is fixed a cam 4 of insulating material provided on its underside with a bronze washer 5. At the upper part of this cam 4 is a half copper disc 6, with insulating sector 7 in one piece.
An insulating housing 8 contains a coil spring 9 clamping between its turns the sector 6 which penetrates through a side slot in the housing to ensure the useful contact to the lighting by the wire 10 ending in the lamp. n 11, there is shown a tubular bolt, the head of which is flat to support the cam 4. It replaces the two fixing bolts provided in the case of fig 1. The axis H pivots in its center.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
12 is a wire which is in communication with the batteries to transmit the current to the coil spring 9. Oven to support the components described above, the support 3 is fixed to the cap B. It is hidden by the frosted lower part of the glass .
On the outside of the headlight, under the latter, and on the bolt 11 is fixed a collar 13 which immobilizes the door or rim). a cup-shaped trim 14 forms the lower part of the headlight; is immobilized by a nut 15 Woven on the threaded part of the bolt 11. This nut is housed in a depression 16 of the gasket 14, so that it is not visible on the outside.
To fix the headlight to the vehicle, a flat iron 17 is used which is blocked against the nut 15 by a nut 18 screwed on the job 11 and striated on its upper face to strongly adhere to the flat iron 17 and prevent any.esserage.
This nut 18 is still cup-shaped in its lower part so that a compression spring 19 can be accommodated at the end of the axis H. This spring 19 is held on the other hand by a cap 20 screwed to the end of the axis H, it laterally carries the rod 21 at the end to which the linkage or the cable used to control the reflector is connected, either automatically by the vehicle steering or by any means , for example, the device of Figs 9 and 10 fixing on the dashboard within reach of the driver.
This control device consists of a cylinder 22 with three position holes 23 for the ball 24 housed at the end of the pull tab 25 and that a spring 26, housed in a cell, maintains when it is engaged in one. of these holes, the middle one responds to normal walking; the other two at turn positions. The cable 27 is fixed to the pull tab and its sheath 28 to the cylinder 22.
The reflector C, according to this embodiment is relatively small: 115 m / m opening for an internal diameter of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
163 m / m of glass. This thus allows a maximum orientation angle ae 45 to the right and to the left.
The adjustable headlight must be placed below the two regulatory headlights, on the steering side to be operated by it. It lights up automatically in code only on bends; switches off automatically after the turn by means of cam 4, 1/2 disc 6, sector 7, housing 8, spring 9 and wire 10 connecting the lamp to the battery. The other pole is to ground.
In normal driving, in a straight line, there is no conn tact and the headlight is off. In a bend, the mobile axis H forming part of the cam 4 moves as well as the disc 6 between the turns of the spring 9. It is this spring which closes the lighting circuit when the disc 6 driving the insulating sector presents in the spring a zone of frank contact.
However, a safety margin is given to the insulating sector to avoid unwanted lighting at the slightest movement of the steering wheel.
Headlight orientation can still be controlled before cornering while leaving the driver's hands free.
In this case, it is possible to use two pedals placed near the actuating left foot, either two rods or aeux sheathed cables; two return springs ensuring the neutral point of the assembly, after use.
The rod 21 can also be housed in a housing Fig 14, to be protected from the weather. It can be replaced by a grooved sector 27 housed in the housing 28.
In this groove is attached a cable 29 on which the traction for controlling the reflector is exerted.
The shape of the parts described can vary, a seal is provided between the glass A and the cap B and clamped by the door U. Any modifications in the field of manufacture can be made without harming the principle of the invention.
