  Monsieur Serge ZIEGLER
 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

      des parois, également coniques, du pulvérisateur 3, de telle sorte que l'espace annulaire comprisentre lesdi- tes parois se rétrécit vers le bas. Immédiatement à l'orifice du brûleur est disposé un foyer, s'élargis- sant en cône et contenant la chambre d'allumage et de combustion. Au bord inférieur de la partie 6 dudit fo- yer est agencé un dispositif d'allumage électrique 8, 9 10. Les électrodes dudit dispositif reviennent en arriè- re, en face du revêtement en terre réfractaire(hachuré sur le dessin) de la partie 6 du foyer.

The present invention relates to improvements to air supply devices for oil burners comprising a sprayer supplied with heavy oil and a spraying agent and ,. around the sprayer, a circular channel in which all the residual air under pressure is collected.

   Oil burners of this type may only be used in fully automatic systems, in which the burner is switched on and off at intervals, if, when the burner is put back into service, the disturbance due to the extinction of the flame, or similar causes, is impossible. However, this extinction occurs in particular easily when using oils.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 residue containing tar, to heat the burner, when the entire installation is put into service. This danger arises mainly in the presence of external effects of suction or compression of the mixture of air and atomized fuel.

   In accordance with the present invention, this extinction of the flame is avoided and, at the same time, complete combustion is ensured over a relatively short space, by arranging, in the immediate vicinity of the burner orifice, a hearth. Conical refractory, containing the ignition and combustion chamber and in the outlet of the circular channel, guide fins which give the air a rotary movement. In front of these fins it is formed, by a conical narrowing of the circular channel, a retaining chamber which ensures a regular distribution of the air in the channels formed by the fins and thus ensures the centering of the flame in the hearth.

   This effect is further improved in that the adduction of the residual air in the upper cap of the circular channel is effected by two swan necks derived from a common supply pipe and terminating at diametrically opposed points of the cap.

   Preferably, the outer conical tube of the circular channel acting as a holding chamber serves as a support for the adjoining hearth which is interchangeable; This provides a convenient arrangement in which the fuel oil is burned over a relatively short distance. As a result of this conformation, the assembly is easy to install in water boilers previously intended for coke heating.

   To obtain an absolutely safe ignition of the mixture

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 coming out of the burner in the hearth, the electric ignition device is disposed at the lower edge of the hearth itself and, preferably with electrodes capable of being withdrawn behind, in front of the earthen covering refractory. The electric ignition device is then made in the form of a hollow spark plug, in which there is * produced, by means of a bypass taken in front of the retaining chamber of the burner, an inlet of regular air to the ignition device itself. When the system is put into operation, this air stream is sprayed with ignition oil.

   The flammable mixture obtained ignites at the electrodes of the electric ignition device and then ignites in its turn, in the. fireplace, the fuel-air mixture exiting the burner.

   The object of the invention is shown schematically, by way of non-limiting example, by the accompanying drawings, FIG. 1 is a vertical section and FIG. 2 a plan of the new air supply device.

   The additional air arrives by the intake tube 1 and passes, from there, through the divergent goosenecks 1 ', 1 "in the upper cap of the air chamber of the oil burner. In this chamber plunges, to from the top the sprayer 3, supplied with oil and a spraying agent: it extends into the adjacent retaining chamber 4. Said retaining chamber is closed to the outside by a funnel, the tip of which is facing downwards At the lower part of this funnel, which forms the outlet of the air chamber 3, there are mounted fins 14 in a helical direction.

   Convergence of the walls of the funnel is faster than that of the outside

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

      walls, also conical, of the sprayer 3, so that the annular space between the said walls narrows downwards. Immediately at the orifice of the burner is placed a hearth, widening into a cone and containing the ignition and combustion chamber. At the lower edge of part 6 of said hearth is arranged an electric ignition device 8, 9 10. The electrodes of said device return to the rear, opposite the refractory earth coating (hatched in the drawing) of the part. 6 of the foyer.

   In the electric ignition device, in the form of a hollow spark plug, passes in front of the electrodes a regular air stream taken by a bypass 7 on the cap 2 of the air chamber. When the ignition device is put into operation, ignition oil is sprayed into the tube 7 by means of the nozzle 11, so that, in the spark plug, it reaches the spark plug. easily flammable mixture which in turn ignites the air-fuel mixture evenly distributed in the hearth.

   The fuel and the atomizing agent are introduced through lines 12, 13 into the fuel atomizing device.
