 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 1 est une vue de côté;   Fig. 2   est une coupe verticale transversale;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Improvements to belt conveyors.

   This invention relates to belt conveyors of a sectioned construction, that is, the frame of which is made up of sections assembled end to end in a number required to form a conveyor of any desired length.

  The invention relates more particularly, although not exclusively, to conveyors employed in coal mines, in particular at face faces, where the simplicity of assembly and disassembly as well as a certain degree of flexibility in the operation. vertical direction to match the unevenness of the ground, are necessary.

   A conveyor according to the invention consists of sections which are prevented from separating both in the direction @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 longitudinal than in the lateral direction, simply because they have been placed in their correct relative positions and which, after being assembled longitudinally, are locked and prevented from separating in the vertical direction by the correct positioning of the rollers used to support the upper part of the belt.

   In the practical embodiment of the invention, so that loose parts which may not be lost in assembly do not have to be employed, rollers supporting the upper run of the belt are pivotally connected to the conveyor frame in such a manner. that they can be pivoted into and out of the active position, the arrangement being such that, when the rollers are in the inactive position, the conveyor sections can be moved into position and, once the rollers are brought back in the active position, the sections are locked against tripping in the vertical direction.

   The rollers supporting the upper run of the belt can be arranged so as to give the belt a concave profile; for this purpose they can be arranged in transverse groups of three or more rollers, the side rollers of a group being inclined, and according to the invention, two of these side rollers, one on each side, can each pivot on its own axis normally vertical to switch from the active transverse position to an inactive longitudinal position.

   The invention will be described below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view; Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section;
Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 4-shows a detail.

   The attached drawing shows two A chairs, a section @

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 of conveyor B, rollers C serving to support the upper run of the belt, and rollers D serving to support the lower run of the belt, rollers C and D being mounted idle on the chairs A.

   As shown in Fig. 2, each chair A is in the shape of an inverted trough. In the middle of each chair are located two opposite arms 1 protruding from bottom to top, between which are mounted the rollers C. The group of rollers C consists of a horizontal middle roller 2 and two inclined side rollers 3. The middle roller 2 rotates in fixed staves resting directly on the upper face of the chair A, while each of the lateral rollers 3 is mounted, at its inner end, on a vertical pivot 4. Each pivot 4 carries, at a point located below the At the inner end of the corresponding roller 3, a horizontal locking bar 5 which, in the active position, is placed along the length of the conveyor, as shown in FIG. 5.

   At each end, the chair has a rib 6 and an intermediate projection 7, to engage with the sections B of the conveyor. In the active position, the outer end of the axis of each side roller 3 rests in a notch 8 of the corresponding arm 1.

   Each section of the conveyor B is open near its ends to cover the adjacent end of the chair and comprises in this open part two corrugations or grooves 9, longitudinally spaced, intended to engage with the rib 6 and the projection 7 of the chair when placed on it, the sections thus being held together end to end.

   In order to be able to place the conveyor sections on the chairs, the side rollers 3 are rotated on their pins 4 so that they take a longitudinal position.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 indicated at 3a in FIG. 3, while their locking bars 5 rotate with them to assume a transverse position. As a result, the side rollers 3 are brought back to their transverse active position, and the outer ends of their axes are replaced in the notches 8 of the arms, each roller axis being articulated to tilt in a vertical plane on the top of its pivot 4.

   The locking bars then come to be placed above the adjacent ends of the two adjacent conveyor sections B, so as to prevent the sections from lifting off the chair, while leaving them sufficient freedom of movement for them. adapt to undulations or other irregularities in the ground. E designates the conveyor belt.

   A feature of this construction is that no bolts or other separable fasteners are required, the locking of the sections being effected by means of the rollers of the upper strand, which must be brought to the active position to lock the sections before the transporter is in working order.

   Separable chairs, such as A, may not be used, the conveyor sections B then being themselves provided with feet, and the rollers for the upper run of the belt being mounted on one end of each conveyor section for direct locking. between them the two conveyor sections.
