<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

DEVICE ALLOWING TO PRODUCE FULL PROFILES, SHAPED IN SHAPING, ON PRESSES TO PROFILE THE

With the aim of producing full profiles, going in narrowing, on presses for profiling metal bars, it has already been proposed to carry out the shaping of the metal so as to simultaneously release from the die a conical mandrel fixed to the piston and the metal, the cross section of the mandrel being, each time, calculated so as to achieve the desired profile, the opening of the piston in the phases

the mandrels, during the shaping operation, in such a way that they are prevented from moving, regardless of the forces acting on it from the metal to be shaped, in the plane 'vertical to the direction of shaping, which is achieved by compulsory guidance of the mandrels in the die.
, According to known construction rules, it is possible to obligatorily guide the mandrel in the die by proceeding as follows: when it concerns mandrels of regular and irregular polygonal section (including the limits of curved sections that must be conceived as polygonal segments with an infinitely large number of sides), the guidance must be carried out at the monk at three points, one of which, at least, is located on one side of the polygon which forms with the two sides attributed to the other two points of pipe, points which, moreover, they also must not be parallel to each other, at an angle of 90 or more, crossing in a single direction the circumference of the polygon (so-called triangular guidance).
These are only polygons with an even number of sides and consequently comprising only two groups of parallels (rectangle, rhombus, etc.) which require guidance in at least four points.
Provided that, in accordance with the usual procedure hitherto, the mandrels necessary for the conical construction of the profile are arranged on the outer surface of the recesses on the periphery of the block to be profiled, one would not need to realize this idea than to adapt in a corresponding way the shape of the die to that of the section of the mandrel in the direction of a compulsory guidance, But in this case also, the fact that the speed

flow of the metal melt is distributed in an irregular manner to the individual points of the cross section.

section rr.àia, the-a.syixétric, is still disadvantageously noticed by a great unilateral flexion force of the mandrel.
To avoid this drawback, according to the present invention, in combination with the obligatory guiding of the mandrel, several profile openings are provided, distributed around the periphery of the die, as evenly as possible, so that the individual profiles slide directly. on the opening of the die with at least one of their contact surfaces. As a result, the shape of the opening of the die is determined essentially by the outer contact surfaces of the profiles to be produced.
How far we could go in this regard, however, depends on the fact that it is always necessary to guide the mandrel (s); therefore, it follows that the shape of the opening of the die must correspond as before to the conditions for triangular guidance of the mandrel or mandrels.
We can achieve this. in the simplest way, in particular

The fibers 1 ?, and 1b represent the profile to be produced in cross section at different places of its longitudinal extension.
Figures 2a and 2b, on the contrary, show cross sections of the mandrel 2 passing through the opening of the die 1, in combination with the profile cross sections 3 assigned to the corresponding places of the longitudinal extension of the mandrel.
Contrary to the known process for the production of conical profiles which has just been mentioned at the beginning, it is not possible, in this case, to arrange the mandrel quite simply in an external recess of the block in order to embed the block to be profiled with the mandrel in the profiling press the mandrel should instead be inserted into a cone-shaped internal recess of the block, which is preferably cast therein, already during the manufacture of the block.
Therefore, there is an advantage, in order to make better use of the metal, to choose the cross section of the die opening according to the cross section of the block, as small as possible, that is, when dispensing profile recesses on the mandrel, to tighten as much as possible these recesses to such an extent that it is possible to perform this operation without causing too great a tension force on the mandrel when working with the press.
In the arrangement according to the present invention, the mandrel is placed in the center of the block to be profiled, that is to say that it is surrounded on all sides in the container of the profiling press, by the metal cast iron. Therefore, the compressive forces acting on it are distributed in a radial and regular manner, so that compressive forces
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
lateral pressure no longer occurs in practice at all. It is thus possible to reduce or minimize the latent tension forces, also in the profiles which have just been formed.
At the same time, the regularity of the flow operations inside the container is improved, which ultimately also results in accelerated shaping, thereby coming very close to that of ordinary tubes.
