 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

(NICOLAS BILLIS INVENTEURS:) GEORGES FILACOURIDIS (CONSTANTIN ANTOINE HAMAWY New system allowing any sunken vessel to be refloated on the seabed, and more especially submarine, in space for a few hours, day or night, and without the need for the assistance of divers.
It consists of two metal belts surrounding the hull of the ship or submarine, in a perpendicular direction, one on the front side and the other on the aft side (See plan, section A.B.

belt indicated by the letter C.) .-
In its upper part, and more precisely on the midline of the building, each belt carries a vertical rod terminated by two superimposed rows of hooks, each row has one or more hooks (See plan, type D.) .-
A short distance from the latter device is a buoy forming a cover and attached, in its lower part, to a rope coiled and locked below it. The other end of this rope is fixed to the axis ae the rod carrying the hooks and brought below the buoy by the upper end of this rod (Type E.). This buoy can be triggered either by means of electrical buttons placed in all parts of the building, or by that of a mechanical device also accessible in all parts of the building.

When the vessel or submarine is sunk or about to sink, the buoy is triggered and, rising to

the surface, it unrolls the rope, the end of which rises with it, - rrrrrived at the surface of the water (E '), the buoy is pulled by the rescue vessel so as to unwind the entire rope which is attached to it and whose lower end now leads directly and in a straight line to the upper end of the hooked rod.

We then pass, in this rope, two powerful rings, each attached to a chain whose strength of resistance is in relation to the dimensions of the ship to refloat, These rings descend directly on the hooks, of which they are of larger diameter, ae crossing their rows and to hang on to them, (see plan, Type F.).

The two buoys thus emerging from the front and rear sides of the vessel are marked with different conventional colors to induce the front of the rear dative; the position taken by the sunken building.
The chains thus lowered are each pulled by a powerful crane, two of which are placed above the bow and two above the stern of the ship or submarine to be refloated, -
In this way, the vessel to be refloated is easily brought to the surface within a few hours and without the assistance of divers.

** ATTENTION ** end of DESC field can contain start of CLMS **.
