Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Winding capacitor,
The turns of electrically wound capacitors are usually flattened and compressed after winding is complete. The electrical connection of the armatures is effected by means of a connection piece placed on each of them and having the form of a metal strip inserted between the wound layers.

   Experience has shown that this method of connection poses a risk from several points of view for capacitors with compressed windings. In fact, the discharges occur mainly along the edges of the connection lamellae in somewhat old capacitors. This drawback must obviously be attributed to two causes.

   On the one hand, the sharp-angled cutting edges and in particular the angles of the connecting lamellae risk damaging the intermediate layers and thus reducing their resistance to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   discharges, on the other hand a channel-shaped cavity is formed along each longitudinal edge of the connecting tabs in the form of tabs which penetrates deeply into the coil.

   Since this cavity is not always completely filled with the impregnation fluid and, moreover, this impregnation fluid only opposes a low resistance, as experience has taught it, to the penetration of humidity this channel-shaped cavity gives a particularly favorable possibility for the penetration of humidity from the air.

   The invention provides a remedy for the aforementioned drawbacks.

  Indeed it consists in folding the connecting strips along each of their longitudinal edges and in folding the folded portions of these strips on the same side by putting them flat, so that the longitudinal edges are against each other. as much as possible without a gap. The edges of the connecting strips thereby assume a rounded semi-circular shape. The initial cutting edges are in the middle of the tongue-shaped sipes, so that the cutting effect previously exerted on the coiled layers disappears completely.

   On the attached drawing given as an example only. FIG. 1 is an elevational view of the connection strips according to the invention; Fig.2 is a plan view; FIG. 3 is an elevation of a coiled coil comprising two connections; fig. 4 is a plan view.

   According to the embodiment shown, a denotes the cutting edges of the lamella, which meet in the middle and preferably approach each other as much as possible without however overlapping; 22 denotes a coiled coil with two connections c.

   It can be seen from fig. 3 that the connections do not penetrate

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 as usual in the coil over about three quarters of its width, but on the contrary extend to the other end face of the coil. This prevents the angles and edges of the end of the connecting strips from damaging the intermediate layers.

   The form of construction of the connection strips recommended by the invention makes it possible to avoid any pressure exerted inside the coil by metal edges at an acute angle on the coiled layers. In addition, the channel-shaped cavity located along each longitudinal edge of the connecting lamellae reduces so much volume due to the rounded semi-circular shape taken by the folded edges formed by the bending, that the possibility of moisture penetration at this point becomes much less.

   It may happen that the metal lamellas have a protruding cutting burr along their edges. This burr remains protruding when the lamellae are bent and folded back in the manner described. To prevent any deleterious effect of this protruding burr on the coil, another characteristic of the invention consists in flattening the connecting lamellae in the rolling mill. after folding back the folded portions and removing the protruding burr from them,
It is also possible to achieve an advantageous improvement of the treated connection strips, in the manner described by filling the intermediate space which remains between the initial longitudinal ridges folded back and brought closer to one another with a metal,

   which thus makes any lack of homogeneity of the connection strips impossible. The generally simplest way to achieve this improvement consists in passing the folded down connection strips in a bath of tin and thus filling all the intermediate spaces which remain with metallic tin.
