 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 circuit secondaire.

  Induction furnace, low frequency.

   Low frequency induction furnaces are known comprising two furnace chambers interconnected by melting channels. In these furnaces, the bottoms of the furnace chambers are at the same height. This known arrangement, however, has a considerable drawback. As we know any induction furnace must have a starting pit by which the secondary circuit containing the channels is closed. It is inevitable that in the known arrangement a pit will be contained in each furnace chamber. However, the metallic content of the pit is introduced into the chamber of the furnace in liquid form. For this purpose we must have @

   of a particular furnace for melting the corresponding metal.

  In the case of high power induction furnaces, and consequently of large dimensions, the two starter pits have dimensions such that a special large furnace is needed, simply for melting the metal. This, however, has an extremely unfavorable influence on the economics of the operation of the furnace.

   This considerable economic disadvantage is avoided and an induction furnace is obtained which, despite the arrangement of two or more melting chambers, contains only a moderate amount of metal in the form of a starter pit, when according to the present invention , the bottoms of all the furnace chambers except one are arranged at approximately the height of the pit surface or higher and where the mouths of the fusion channels in each of the furnace chambers are connected by a common channel. In the new furnace therefore only one furnace chamber still contains a starter pit. The common channel which interconnects the mouths of the channels in the furnace chambers then has the function of keeping the secondary circuit closed despite the existence of a single starter pit established in the hollow.

   The common channels are advantageously disposed below the bottoms, located higher, of the furnace chambers, horizontally and perpendicular to the melting channels and have an open shape in the direction of the furnace chambers.

   A further improvement is obtained when the plugs of the melting channels in the furnace chambers are arranged with the bottoms located higher, further from the primary coils than the other openings of the channels.

  In this case, in fact, already for the horizontal arrangement of the melting ducts a permanent heat flow is formed in the direction of the furnace chamber located more.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 near. The mixture of the bath will then be particularly careful and pushed into this chamber and the latter can be used advantageously for the melting of the material to be melted introduced in the cold state.

     However, it is also possible to achieve a marked thermal flow when, according to another characteristic of the present invention, the common connecting channel which extends downwards to a depth such that the fusion channels rise towards one of the flow chambers. oven containing the starter pit. This measurement can also be taken additionally at the rates indicated above.

   Examples of embodiment of the idea of the invention are shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 of the drawing, partly in vertical section and partly in horizontal section. a and b are the two melting chambers of an induction furnace. The chambers are interconnected by two rectilinear fusion channels ± which are firm on all sides, and receive the primary coil d with the yoke f between them. The furnace chamber a contains the starting pit; the contents of which cannot be lowered by operation below the surface o. The bottom 1 of the chamber b is located higher than the bottom h of the chamber a In the exemplary embodiment it is substantially at the height of the surface o.

   However, it can also be a little higher or a little lower. The mouths of the fusion channels ± in the furnace chamber b are connected to each other by a connecting channel e, the latter is placed horizontally and is perpendicular to the channels ±. Towards oven room b ,, he a. an open form from the top. chamber b therefore does not contain a starter pit.

   The connection channel in which there is only a moderate amount of metal represents, instead of the suppressed starting pit, the current conducting connection between the two fusion channels c and closes by continually the

 secondary circuit. The primary coil d is placed closer to the orifices of the channels c in chamber a than to the mouth of the channels ± in chamber b. Consequently there will be formed in the melting channels an intense thermal flow in the direction of the chamber. This chamber of the furnace will therefore be used advantageously for the melting of the material introduced.

   In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3 the connecting channel extends so low that the channels c go up towards the furnace chamber a. In this way
 EMI4.1
 The heat flow in the direction of chamber a is further enhanced.

   In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, the furnace chamber k has a relatively narrow shape and essentially represents an extension of the connecting channel e upwards. In this arrangement, too, the second starting gap disappears.
