  Spinning sector.

The main patent describes a spinning die consisting of an alloy of gold and nickel containing 1 to 15%, preferably 4 to 10% nickel, the remainder being gold, This gold and nickel alloy spinning die is superior to gold and platinum alloy dies in that the spinning holes narrow more slowly and therefore the dies have to be changed. and cleaned less often.

It has now been found that the alloys of gold and nickel spinning lines proposed in the main patent

cipal can be further improved by the addition of a hardness increasing agent, for example by addition of tin or the like, in an amount of 0.1 to 5%. The ternary alloys thus produced are easier to harden than the binary alloys of gold and nickel, which can only be hardened to a practically insignificant extent.

The new ternary alloys thus produced, of gold, nickel and an additional agent intended to increase the hardness, have, for the manufacture of spinning dies, on the one hand, all the advantages, listed in the main patent, of the use of gold and nickel alloys. As these additions of agents intended to increase the hardness are only in small amounts and even less than 1% are often used, the corrosion resistance of gold and nickel alloys is is hardly hindered by them. But, on the other hand, these alloys have the advantage over gold and nickel alloys of allowing hardening.

In the case of pure gold and nickel alloys, the spinning channels must be adapted after having been brought to the highest possible state of hardness, so that they then withstand the strong mechanical stresses to which they are subjected. spinning dies, that in particular the bottom does not bulge under the influence of the spinning pressure and that the spinning channels do not wear out quickly. On the other hand, for the ternary alloys employed according to the invention, the spinning channels are drilled in the alloy while it is in the soft state, and it is only then that the entire die is hardened. finished.

The temperatures required for hardening are here, in comparison with those for hardening gold and patina alloys, so low that the drilled channels, which are smooth, do not yet tarnish under the action of heat. during curing.

Thus, for example, from an alloy containing 93% gold, 5% nickel and 2% tin, while it is soft, the spinning die is formed and y practice the spinning holes. After heating it to 700 and suddenly cooling, this alloy has a hardness of 128 kg. per mm2. When, after its completion, the die is hardened, spinning for a quarter of an hour at 300 C. already a hardness of 240 kg is obtained. per mm2, which can even be increased even further, by a longer heat treatment.

From a no. on the one hand, the spinning die thus produced has, with regard to spinning, the good properties of the gold and nickel spinning dies according to the main patent and, on the other hand, it is characterized by extraordinary mechanical resistance. - very high.
