  APPAREILS   GENERATEURS   D'OSCILLATIONS   ELECTRIQUES

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  ELECTRIC OSCILLATION GENERATORS
The present invention relates to apparatus for generating electrical oscillations and in particular to electric oscillators for radio transmitting stations.

   In such transmitters, it is often necessary, in particular in the pilot stages, to use oscillators which can operate either as self-oscillators or with a control, by quartz, the frequency being adjustable by the change of quartz.

  However, whatever the working mode used, it is essential that, for the same value of the tuning capacity of the oscillating circuit, the frequencies obtained in the two cases are identical.

   On the other hand, in a crystal controlled oscillator, the tuning frequency of the anode oscillating circuit must be set to a higher value than that of the crystal, their difference being for example 5%.

   The object of the present invention is therefore to provide

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 circuits automatically giving this adjustment when the oscillator operates according to one mode or the other, and on the other hand ensuring optimum operation of the oscillator in each case.

   According to certain characteristics of the invention, so that the calibration of an oscillator which can operate at 'volpnté is, with a stabilization by quartz Drinks in auto-osoillator, remains correct in both cases, .a Additional self-inductance is connected in series with the main self-inductance of the plate-remover circuit, these two inductors being placed in. circuit for auto-oscillator operation, while the main induetance is only connected during the periods of operation with crystal stabilization.

   Three exemplary embodiments are shown schematically in Figures 1 to 3, respectively, of the accompanying drawings.

  In these figures, the circuits are shown in a position corresponding to the self-oscillator operation of the stage shown.

   For this purpose, the control gate of lanpe V, figure 1, is connected by capacitor C 4 to the end of the anode oscillating circuit including, according to a characteristic of the invention, in addition to the- capacitor 01, and of the self inductance Ll, an additional series inductor L2. The self-inductances L1 and L2 may not present any mutual induotion. Their common point being decoupled from ground by the C3 apacity, the high frequency voltages applied to the anode and gate electrodes are. in the ratio of the values of L1 to L2.

   With the inverter in the AO position, the two inductances, L1 and L2 are connected in series, but when the inverter is brought to its other position, marked Q, the induetance L2 is shorted. -cirouit and the control grid of the lamp V is connected to quartz S. (or other vibrating electro-mechanical element).

   The frequency of the oscillating circuit is then determined solely by the value of the inductance L1. This frequency is obviously higher than that of the previous case. This difference in frequency can be determined from the required value by choosing

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 correspondingly the values of the self-inductances L1 and L2.

   It is preferable that the inductive coupling between the inductors L1 and L2 is weak so that the short circuit of L2 does not cause losses in the main inductor L1.

   The value of the inductance L2, thus determined, can however provide too high a voltage to the control gate in the auto-osoillator assembly. In particular, when using a pentode lamp, such as V1, FIG. 2, only a small fraction of the total voltage is necessary on the control grid to cause the oscillations to catch.

   To remedy this drawback, according to another characteristic, provision is made on the auxiliary self-inductance L2, a tap connected to the high voltage and decoupled to the ground through the capacitor C3. The control gate of the lamp V1 then receives only the potential difference between this tap and the end of the self-inductance connected to the capacity Cl. The change from one operation to the other is carried out as described with reference to FIG. 1, in the quartz stabilization position, the main inductor L1 being alone in circuit.

   In both cases, the high-value leakage resistor Rl is set encirouit when the oscillator operates with quartz stabilization (inverter in position Q) and is shunted when the oscillator operates in auto-oscillator (inverter in position AO) by a resistor of low value R2. It is thus made possible, according to another characteristic of the invention, to put in each case the optimum leakage resistance.

   It can happen that the inductance L2 has a value too small to cause the maintenance of the oscillations, when the assembly operates as an auto-oscillator. In such a case, it is possible, according to another characteristic of the invention, to use a circuit such as that of FIG. 3, given by way of illustration for an oscillator of the Hartley type, in which the point plate oscillating circuit grounding, which remained fixed in the oas

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 circuits shown in Figures' 1 and 2,

   is shifted from a to b so as to put the inductor L2 in series with the ground and a suitable portion of the inductance L1. This movement is effected by means of a switch mechanically integral with the switch for changing from the quartz oscillation position to the auto-osoillator osoilation position.

   It can be seen that when the circuit of FIG. 3 operates with quartz control, the circuit is identical to that of FIG. 1 in the same position. ,
It should also be noted that the HV power supply of the plate of the lamp V2 is represented in figure 3 of faton different from figures 1 and 2 by means of the decoupling capacitor 03 and of the shock coil CH in order to indicate another system application.

   Although the invention has been described in the case of certain specific exemplary embodiments, it is clear that it is in no way limited thereto but is, on the contrary, subject to numerous modifications and adaptations without departing from its field.
