Description

"Manufacturing process of threads, ribbons and the like, by viscose spinning"
It is known to improve the spinability of viscose by the addition of fatty acids or sulphonated fatty acids. The addition of sulfonated castor oil has proved to be particularly advantageous, which greatly facilitates the spinning of fine titers of artificial silk or cellulose wool, as well as the drawing thereof.
Since castor oil is at present a difficult raw material to obtain, many attempts have been made to find an effective substitute for sulfonated castor oil. All these tests had a negative result. When added to viscose, no other sulfonated oil or fatty acid sulfonate produces, even approximately, the effect of castor oil sulfonates.
It has now been discovered that fatty oils or fatty acids, which are simultaneously sulfonated and chlorinated, produce, when added to viscose, beneficial effects similar to those produced by sulfonated castor oils. Such a product can for example hearth obtained by introducing, in sulfonated technical olein, chlorine up to a weight increase of 10%, washing and neutralizing approximately with sodium hydroxide solution. While the sulfonated olein produced, as an addition to the viscose, only a small improvement in spinability, the simultaneously chlorinated product exhibited the same effectiveness as the castor oil sulfonate.
The stretch resistance and the spinnability of viscose with the addition of this product

duets grow to a considerable extent, so that an increase in the speed of drawing and elongation of the yarns, especially in the case of fine titers, is possible, at the same time a clarification of the viscose and filtration becomes easier, while the breaking strength of the bodies obtained is increased.
Similar favorable effects can be achieved when mixtures of sulfonated and chlorinated oleins are added to viscose.
