Description

  Brevet d'invention. Monsieur Paul MINNENS.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Fig. 1 est une vue de côté de l'objet;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Patent. Mr Paul MINNENS. Toy with wheels.

  The invention relates to the wheeled toy industry.

  In toys of this kind, propulsion is generally provided by a mechanism comprising a spiral spring, which is stretched before the toy is placed on a flat surface. One end of the spring is fixed, while the The other is connected to the movable member which can be either the wheel or the axle, or any member providing the desired reduction.

   The connection of a spring steel to another metal is difficult to ensure and sooner or later the spring or its attachment breaks. Self-propulsion is therefore impossible, because it is difficult to repair this small damage,
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback and to allow, where rupture is always possible, rapid and easy repair.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   It essentially consists in replacing the metal spring with a rubber wire, the desired elongation of which requires an initial length requiring the return of the wire to a certain number of pulleys, and the winding of which on a moving part is carried out so as to that the turns do not overlap, which could cause harmful friction.

  A particularly advantageous assembly will consist in placing the return pulleys at the ends of the toy, while the mobile end of the elastic wire will be joined to an axle carrying two rollers; on this axle driven by a crank fixed at its end, the wire will wind up according to a helix if care has been taken to place the last return pulley on the side opposite to the mobile attachment point of the wire.

   By way of non-limiting example, the accompanying drawing represents a small automobile according to the invention.

   Fig. 1 is a side view of the object;
Fig. 2 is a bottom view, showing the propulsion mechanism,
Four small wheels 1 are joined together two by two by axles 2 which can rotate freely in bearings 3, fixed on the body 4 - of the object, the shape of which is reminiscent of an automobile body. A steering wheel 5 and a spare wheel 6 complete the illusion. The rear axle 2 is extended by an outer crank 7; elastic thread 8 has one end attached to point 9 on rear axle 2, while its other end is attached to body 4 at point 10. Thread 8 is wound on three small pulleys 11.

   When one turns the crank 7 and consequently the rear wheels 1, the wire 8 is wound up in a helix on the axle 2; the elongation of the thread increases its tension and when the

 toy on a flat surface, the wire 8 tends to return to its initial position. Rolling resistance alone opposes this shortening and the car rolls. The three deflection pulleys 11 equalize the tensions in the strands, quadruple the length of the wire and thereby allow the winding of a large number of turns on the axle. The last strand of the wire occupying the location of a diagonal of the part 4 ,, therefore avoids any overlap.

   Summary.

   1. A toy with wheels, characterized in that the self-propulsion is ensured by the prior winding on the axle of an elastic thread which tends to return to its initial position.

   2. A toy according to 1, characterized in that the desirable elongation of the wire is obtained by the presence of a variable number of pulleys on which the wire is wound.
