  BREVET D'INVENTION Jeudde société rappelant le foot-ball. Monsieur Jacques LE ELAGUAIS Convention Internationale : Demmnde de brevet déposée en France le
15 Novembre 1944, N  P.V. 495. 181.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  PATENT OF INVENTION Board game reminiscent of football. Mr. Jacques LE ELAGUAIS International Convention: Patent application filed in France on
November 15, 1944, N P.V. 495. 181.

   The present invention relates to a board game reminiscent of football.

   The game according to the invention essentially comprises a playing field consisting of an elongated checkerboard separated in the middle of its length, by a line, in two equal parts and comprising, at the ends of each of these parts, a rectangle delimiting a zone of goal, then presenting, in each of said parts, tiles specially marked as starting locations for pawns affecting for example the shape of soccer players.

   According to other characteristics of the invention, the pawns are figurines representing the football players in their most frequent attitude according to their function (front, back, goalkeeper, etc.) and the pawns of the two teams are differentiated from each other, for example by colors.

   The invention also extends to various other characteristics which emerge from the detailed description which follows.

   Fig. 1 is a plan of a playing field according to the invention.

   Figs. 2, 3 and 4 represent pawns.

   The game is essentially constituted by a field 1 affecting the shape of a two-colored checkerboard, for example with black and white squares, which is separated in its middle by a line 2, reminiscent of the sending line of a field of f oot -ball, in two camps. At each of the ends of said field, a number of checkerboard squares are enclosed in a rectangle 3 and 4 respectively, which delimits the goal zone.

   A number of checkerboard tiles are marked to serve as starting locations for the various players of both teams. For example, two squares 5, 6 marked in the goal zones receive the goalkeeper of each team, represented by a pawn such as the one in fig. 4. Two tiles 7,8 and 9, 10 respectively from each side receive the pawns representing

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the backs of the teams and which, for example, affect the form shown in Fig.3.

   Other squares 11, 12, 13 and 14, 15, 16 respectively form the front lines and receive pawns such as the one shown in fig. 2, representing the front players of the teams.

   The marking of these tiles can be done in various ways. They are, for example, surrounded by a frame of conspicuous color which stands out clearly against the colors of the checkerboard, for example a red frame on a black and white checkerboard. These tiles could also be identified by other marks, for example by letters, numbers or a representation of the pawns which they are intended to receive. They could also be simply set in a different color than the other tiles, for example, on a black and white checkerboard, the starting tiles could be red or gray, etc.

   The game can be played as follows:
The pawns representing the football players are placed on the marked checkerboard tiles to indicate their starting position. Each of the two partners throws dice and moves his pawns forward, using only tiles of a single color, i.e. black tiles in a black and white checkerboard, with a number of tiles equivalent to the points obtained, the points of each die used to move a separate pawn. Each player tries to bring one of the pawns representing his forwards in the goal zone of the opposing camp.

   The pawns representing the rear have the role of defending their camp and can consequently make the forwards of the partner. The front which is thus taken must be brought back to its starting point, while the rear which has taken it remains in the place which was occupied by this front.

   The forwards can only advance, while the rear have the ability to move back and forward. The goalkeeper can move forward and backward in his goal zone and come out of a checkerboard outside the goal line where he has the possibility of taking an opponent forward.

   As soon as a goal is scored, all the pawns are returned to their starting position to continue the game.

   The game can be played at a certain number of points or over a certain period of time, like a football match.

   According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the field consists of a rectangular checkerboard having approximately 80 cm by 42 cm, each tile of the checkerboard having a side of 2 cm.

   The playing field according to the invention can be placed on any suitable support, for example on a carpet, on cardboard, on paper or on the bottom of a game box.

   Various modifications can moreover be made to the exemplary embodiment described without departing from the scope of the invention.

  It is thus that one can foresee, with the forwards and backwards, half and three-quarters whose role could be defined, these being able for example only to move on determined zones of the playing field, these areas being delimited either by lines or by different colors.

   Likewise, the pins could be produced in other forms than those shown in FIGS. 2 to 4. These pawns can

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 be made of any suitable material, such as wood, molded plastic, etc.
