Un récipient dont la partie supérieure forme la périphé- rie d'une ouverture sensiblement elliptique par laquelle le contenu du récipient peut être introduit et'retiré de l'inté- rieur dudit récipient, et une surface d'étanchéité placée du côté intérieur de cette partie supérieure;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
autour de son centre, et pouvant être déplacé dans la partie la plus large de l'ouverture, de façon à s'approcher ou à s'é- carter d'une position où il forme étanchéité avec ladite sur- face d'étanchéité, quand on le fait tourner vers une position avancée de 90 degrés à partir de la position initiale de rota- tion et qu'on l'incline;
Une tige verticale placée au centre du couvercle; un support supérieur destiné à être mis dans une position fixe en travers de l'ouverture;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improved autoclave cooking pot".
The object of the present invention is to improve autoclave pots of the type with a substantially elliptical upper opening, used to introduce and remove the contents of the pot, and with a sealing surface placed on the inside side of the upper part of the pot. the pot all around the opening, so as to form a seal with the edge of a cover larger than the opening, when the cover is in a determined position with respect to its central axis, this cover being able to move in the widest part of the opening, so that it can move towards or away from the position in which it seals with the sealing surface when rotated through a 90 degree angle around of its axis from the determined position mentioned above,
and that' . we tilt it.
In autoclave pots of this type, the lid is held in contact with the inner sealing surface which surrounds the opening of the container by a support member placed above it, which can be fixed to the outside of the container. in a determined position, across the opening and to which the cover is connected in an adjustable manner in order to be able to move from an initial position where it is separated from the support and where the edge of the cover sealing form with the sealing surface,
while the support is placed in the operative position across the opening of the container to come to an advanced and separated position where the cover and the support are separated by the desired amount compatible with the required empty space between them so that the lid can be tilted and lifted through the container opening.
The present invention relates to an autoclave pot comprising:
A container the upper part of which forms the periphery of a substantially elliptical opening through which the contents of the container can be introduced and withdrawn from the interior of said container, and a sealing surface placed on the interior side thereof. the top part;
a cover larger than the opening having an outer edge intended to form a seal with the sealing surface, when in an initial position of rotation
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
around its center, and being movable in the widest part of the opening, so as to approach or move away from a position where it forms a seal with said sealing surface, when rotated to an advanced position 90 degrees from the initial rotational position and tilted;
A vertical rod placed in the center of the cover; an upper support intended to be placed in a fixed position across the opening;
a device placed on the support forming a central housing above the opening of the container and in which the rod enters and is guided so as to be able to turn and to allow the movement of the cover, when the latter is approached or s 'moves away from its initial or advanced position by rotating around the rod as an axis, while the support is in a fixed position across the opening, and so that the rod can move longitudinally while the holder is in a fixed position across the opening to allow movement of the cover between its initial position, where the edge of the cover forms a seal with the sealing surface, and an advanced position where the support and cover are moved apart,
the amount needed so that the cover can be tilted and lifted above the opening; an elastic device pressing the cover in its initial position, and finally a locking device combined with the rod and the support piece to keep the cover and the support in an advanced and separated position, when the cover is in the forward rotational position, and to leave the cover and the support free to come to an initial spaced apart position when said cover is in the initial rotational position.
It is an object of the invention to provide a pot of this type where the resilient device is conjugated with the cover and the support member to urge the cover and the support towards the spaced initial position.
The invention also relates to a pot of this type, the cover of which can rotate around the connecting piece from an initial position of rotation, where the edge of the cover forms a seal with the sealing surface which surrounds the opening of the container, to an advanced position spaced 90 degrees from the initial position, while the support remains fixed across the opening.
Another feature of the invention is the existence of a locking device combined with the support piece and the connecting piece of the cover and the support to keep the cover and the support in a separated and advanced position, when the cover is in the forward rotational position.
The present invention, the objects of which are those which have just been set forth and still others which will appear later, consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be described in detail in section 1. 'using the attached drawing, on which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an autoclave pot embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of this kettle in partial section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged view with a partial section taken along the line 3 - 3 of Figure 4.

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 5 is an enlarged section taken along the line 5 = 5 of Figure 6, showing the cover and associated parts, ready to be removed or applied to the container.
Figure 6 is an enlarged vertical section taken along the line 6-6 of Figure 5. "
Fiture 7 is a top plan view similar to Figure 1, but showing the cover and associated parts. in a position inside the container, where the cover has rotated about its vertical axis by an angle of -90 degrees from the position shown in Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a side elevational view showing the cover, and associated parts in the position they assume as they move towards or away from an operating position within the container.
A container which embodies the present invention comprises, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, a body having a flat and circular bottom 10, and a cylindrical side wall 11 which rises from the circumference of the bottom. .
The upper ends of the side wall 11 terminate in an interior flange '12, the edge of which is shaped as indicated at 13 to define a substantially elliptical opening in the top of the container body. The size and shape of the container can be changed at will.
The opening thus formed in the top of the container may be closed by a cover 14, preferably a stamped sheet metal, having an outer edge 15 and an upwardly facing lip 16 located at the outer end. from the edge, so as to support a liner of material suitable to form a seal with the interior surface of the flange 12 which surrounds the opening of the container. The dimensions of the lid 14 and of the edge 15 are such that the lid can easily pass through the opening of said container when it is moved to move it away or approach it from a position where the edge 15 forms a seal with the flange 12. , passing the cover in the direction of its greatest dimension through the widest part of the opening.
A wall 17, relatively close enough to the vertical, rises from the inner end of the edge 15 of the lid and serves with the end 13 of the container opening to prevent the edge of the lid from accidentally rotating. from the position where it forms a seal with the flange 12.
An area curved inward and upward and through which the wall 17 joins the upper central part of the cover, serves with the edge 13 to slide the cover up and down. 'inside, towards the position where it seals with the flange 12 when the cover is rotating before having reached this operating position.
A vertical rod 19, fixed to the center of the cover 14, as at 20 for example, is housed so as to be able to slide therein and to turn therein in a guide sleeve situated at the base of a socket 22, fixed, axially and towards the top on an upper rigid support piece 23, intended to be placed in a fixed position across the opening of the container. The ends 24 of the part'25 can engage in housings 25 in term of handles 26 fixed at 27 on brackets 28 welded to the top of the side wall of the container, at diametrically opposed points. As shown in the drawing, the handles 26 are preferably located in the direction of the major axis of the opening of the container.
The sleeve 22 and the sleeve 21 are '
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
placed midway between the ends 24 of the part 23, and the housings 25, with which the ends 24 are conjugated and serve to hold the part 27 in a fixed position on the receiver, are equidistant from the edge 13, which limits the upper opening of the container. Consequently, when the part 23 is in the operating position, the rod 19 is guided by the sleeve 21 and limits the rotation of the cover about an axis which coincides with the center of the opening of the container limited by the edge. 13.
The upper part of the rod 19 is provided with an operating knob, which is preferably in the form of an inverted metal cap 29, the outer surface of which is enclosed in a casing 30 of suitable material, non-conductive of the material. heat, such as Bakelite, and which is fixed to the rod 19 by a screw 31. The cap 29 is suitably joined to the rod 19 by crimping the edges of an opening located at the base in the upper part. of the rod, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. The edge of the cover 14 can therefore move downward from its operating position if the operating button is depressed, so as to lower the rod 19 despite the resistance of the spring 32.
As will be seen in Figures 4 and 5, the dimensions of the flared outer part of the cap 29 of the operating button are such that this cap overlaps on the upper externally cylindrical part 34 of the socket 22, when the cover 14 is in its initial separated or operating position, relative to the part 23 or in its lowered or advanced position. Thus the hollow part of the socket 22 is hidden from view by the operating button in the two adjustment positions thereof.
The part of the rod 19 situated above the sleeve 21 is surrounded by a coil spring 32. One end of this spring bears against the base of the metal cap 29, and the opposite end bears on an associated ring 33. at the base of the sleeve 22 in the vicinity of the manochen 21. This spring is used to push the support piece 23 and the cover-14 towards each other, so as to make them assume an initial position separated olarly shown on Figure 4. As a result, when the support piece 23 is in the operating position across the opening of the container, and the edge of the cover 14 forms a seal with the flange 12 around the opening of said container, as shown in FIG. 2, the pressure of the spring 32 effectively maintains the cover in the operating position.
The cylindrical portion 34 of the socket 22 has a longitudinal groove 35 intended to allow passage of a protruding longitudinal portion 36 located on the inner surface of the cap 29 when the operating knob is lowered to the position shown in Figure 5. A horizontal shoulder 37 formed on the cylindrical portion 34 of the sleeve 22 and extending circularly from the lower edge of the groove 35 over an arc of about 90 degrees may engage a shoulder located at the upper edge of the protrusion. 36 of the cap 29, so as to lock the operating button in its lower position 'as in FIG. 5 and to limit the angular displacement of the cap 29 with respect to the socket 22 to 90 degrees as shown in the figures. 5 and 6.
The pressure of the spring 32 is sufficient to maintain a friotion locking between the shoulder 37 of the socket and the projection 36 of the cap of the operating knob.
Thus, by lowering the operating button and turning it
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
90 degrees in order to lock the knob in the lower position of figure 5, the rod 19 and the cover 14 can be moved from the initial rotational position shown in figure 2 to to the forward rotational position shown in Fig. 7, where the cover is disposed in the direction of its greatest dimension perpendicular to the widest part of the opening of the container. In this position, the cover 14 can be tilted and lifted out of the container, in the direction of its major axis as shown in FIG. 8, during which operation the ends 24 of the container are removed from their housings 25. the support piece 23.
When you want to reapply the cover on the container, it suffices to reverse the operations which were used to remove the cover. When the latter has been introduced as shown in figure 8 and finally arranged so that the ends of the support piece 23 are placed in the housings 25, the operating jib is rotated to bring the projection 36 into the position where it rests. located opposite the re-entry 35 of the socket 22, whereby the spring 32 can return the rod 19 and the cover 14 upwards until the edge of the cover is locked in the position of. tanoheity against flange 12.
The cover may be fitted with exhaust valves and suitable pressure gauges of the ordinary model (not shown).
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the details of construction 'which are described here and that various changes, additions or improvements can be made thereto without thereby departing from the spirit of the invention, as competent people can see.
