"Internal combustion engine for the propulsion of cycles, with friction roller - functioning as a generator of electrical energy, in particular as a magneto."
In the field of small auxiliary motors for bicycles in which advantageously, the transmission of power is effected by friction of a roller or roller adhering to the outer periphery of the wheel, the difficulties relating to the application of the device are known. 'ignition and / or production of electrical energy for auxiliary services, both for reasons of space requirements and of constructive complications and consequently costs.
An undoubtedly simple solution is that which consists in incorporating the device in the flywheel of the engine, but such an arrangement is not always possible because of the greater axial bulk which results from it.
Especially in the case where the small motor has to be fixed near the central bearing of the frame or else in the region described by the pedals (see for example the patent application "Motorized device for the propulsion of velocipeds" introduced by the applicant. the same day as the present application) and with the resulting limitation of the axial size of the motor to the normal spacing of these pedals, it becomes practically impossible to adopt the aforesaid arrangement.
On the other hand, the application of a magneto or of a separate generator or of both at the same time, while it makes it possible to limit the transverse bulk to admissible values, involves a greater complication of the arrangement as a result. the presence of the necessary control devices.
The present invention a. for object an engine which allows to solve the problem integrally and rationally.
It is characterized in that the friction roller carries in itself internal organs suitable for producing energy.

electric electromagnetically using rotation.
In particular, said members produce the necessary electrical energy. on ignition of the spark plug or spark plugs of the internal combustion engine, thus functioning as a magneto, or possibly the electrical energy necessary for the auxiliary services (lighting, charging of accumulators, etc.) It is not excluded that the aforesaid components can be used both for ignition and for auxiliary services.
For greater clarity, an illustrative and nonlimiting exemplary embodiment will be given below of the invention in which the friction roller serves as a simple ignition magneto.

The drawing represents a section taken along the axis of the motor shaft and the axis of the roller.
The crank shaft 1 of the motor actuates, by means of the gear wheel 2, a wheel 3 integral with a roller 4. the latter adheres to the rubber 5 and transmits the motor to the bicycle. The roller 4 and the wheel 3 are supported by subsinets b and 7, the internal rings of which, fixed, are in turn supported by a housing 8 and by a cover 9.
Inside the roller are placed the magnets 10 with the pole shoes 11 rotating with the roller 4.
The armature 12 is fixed to the casing or protective box by means of the pin 18; it carries, in the known manner, the primary and secondary windings, the capacitor 13 and the breaker 14. The opening of the breaker tips is determined by the cam 15 suitably fixed and rotating with the wheel 3. current for the spark plug is carried out at one end of the fixed armature by means of the cable 15. A fe-. nêre 17 makes it possible to adjust the opening of the points of the breaker 14 and to control the setting in ph ase.
The wheel; 5 has a number of teeth twice that of the gear wheel2 and, therefore, it rotates at a speed equal to half that of the motor. If the cam 15 has a single boss, there is a spark every two revolutions of the motor shaft as is necessary for four-stroke engines; for two-stroke engines it suffices that the cam 1a has two 180 ° bosses so that there is a spark for each revolution of the engine.
