"Appareil centrifugeur et en particulier essoreuse centrifug".
-------------------------------------------------------
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Sur l'arbee 14 sous la roue 18 vient prendre l'extrémité fourchue d'une tringle pivotée en 24 sur le carter susdit et dont l'autre extrémité est articulée librement à une deuxième tringle 25 articulée à une extrémité d'en levier coudé 26 pivotant en 27 sur la partie supérieure de l'esE'oreuse, l'autre extrémité de ce levier 26 étant fixée au couvercle 28 de l'essoreuse;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Centrifuge apparatus and in particular centrifuge wringer".
-------------------------------------------------- -----
The present invention relates to a centrifugal apparatus and in particular to a centrifugal wringer of the type in which the basket or other receptacle intended to receive the. material to be centrifuged is supported by a rigid axis articulated to a fixed position control shaft, placed in the extension of this rigid axis.
Although it is applicable to all centrifugal devices such as cream separators and other centrifugal separators, it will be described hereinafter especially in its application to household centrifugal dryers for the partial drying of the laundry after washing.
Household wringers intended for this purpose are all classified into two distinct categories. The first of the fixed type and the second of the / said transpertable type.
The former, requiring fixing directly to the ground, are somewhat neglected in favor of the transportable type, more practical in current homes and especially apartments.
The spinners of the first model, however, are infinitely superior, because their design, in general, is more mechanical, their duration much longer and above all their safety infinitely greater.
All wringers, whatever they are, are, by their application and use, subject to constant shocks and vibrations, the frequency and amplitude of which combine at certain critical speed points. This is due to the impossibility of balancing the mass of laundry to be wrung, the distribution of the latter not being able to take place under the conditions required for perfect balancing of the rotating mass.
In the fixed models, the frame being firmly fixed to the ground, the trepidations are not visible being absorbed by the mass of the machine and diffused in the ground. The noise alone is noticeable.
In the transportable types, the various designs and realization of spinners attenuate and manage, more or less, in certain models to fairly compensate for the oscillations of mass, by the use of springs either that the axis carrying the basket is articulated at the end opposite to this and maintained in its vertical position by compensatory springs, either that the axis itself is constituted by a strong coil spring, or finally that a whole elastic system tends
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to slitémenr and absorb these oscillations between the basket and its axis, on the one hand, and the cage or frame, on the other hand, Whatever the case, all these systems, without giving a perfectly stable device, capable of to be considered as,
e practically portable and inert, requiring no fixing, have very burdensome drawbacks. They are all tricky and, for the most part, infinitely dangerous. Indeed, a load unevenly distributed in the basket, and this case is constant and even inevitable, causes oscillations of such an amplitude, that the slightest defect in a spring, or even a little too long fatigue causes it to break. .
This one taking place at a speed always very high, 900 revolutions per minute at least, causes if not very serious accidents, at least of considerable deterioration.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks by a combination of Trojans, some of which are known in themselves, but which, to the knowledge of the invention, have never been met or in all. cases have not yet been done under conditions such that their actions combine harmoniously to contribute to an operation free from vibrations and oscillations thanks to the use of gyrostatic means combined with elastic elements compensating for oscillations.
The centrifuge apparatus according to the invention, which is practically transportable, is characterized in that the articulation between the rigid axis carrying the basket and the control shaft is formed by a completely free ball placed between the neighboring ends. of the aforesaid axis and abre, these ends each having, in their end face, a cavity intended to receive the bils means being provided to constantly urge these two ends towards one another
The other, while allowing the axis of the basket to oscillate to a certain extent.
According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the rigid axis of the basket being guided in a carrier integral with said axis in the longitudinal direction, for example, with the intervention of ball bearings, the aforesaid means consist of springs urging the carrier constantly in the direction of the control shaft of the device while allowing it to oscillate with the axis of the basket, resting on the aforesaid ball.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the aforesaid bearing carrier is fixed to a plate through which tie rods fixed to the lower part of the frame of the apparatus pass, while the compression springs wound around these tie rods, between this plate and a stop provided on each pull above the plate, constantly tend to push said plate down.
According to another feature of the invention, to increase the damping of the oscillations of the axis of the basket, the aforementioned axis and shaft each carry, in the vicinity of their articulation end , a plate perpendicular to the axis of the apparatus and in that these plates are connected by elastic members working in traction, so as to constantly tend to bring the two plates together and to re-establish their parallelism, when the plate of l The axis of the basket cese to be parallel to the plate of the control shaft.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
On the other hand, according to the invention, in order to relieve all the springs mentioned in the foregoing from the springs, the basket is weighted, in a manner known per se, with a gyrostatic wheel, the latter being. calculated in such a way that at the normal operating speed of the apparatus, it gives it a much greater stability and absorbs a large part
EMI3.1
aunt of the aso.l7aations.
Other advantageous features and details will emerge below from the description of an embodiment of the invention illustrated, by way of example, by the accompanying drawing, which shows a vertical sectional view of a household wringer.
As can be seen in this drawing, the basket 1 of the wringer is weighted, at its lower part with a flywheel 2 placed at the lower part of the basket towards the periphery of the latter.
The basket is supported by its rigid axis 3, which is screwed into a kind of mushroom °, fixed to the bottom of the basket.
This axis is mounted in a bearing holder 5 with the intervention of ball bearings 6 and 7. The bearing holder 5 is fixed on a plate 8 traversed by tie rods 9 screwed into the lower part of the frame or cage 10 of the wringer. Above the plate 8 a spring 11 working in compression is wound around each tie rod between this plate and a stop formed by a nut 12 with washer 13,
EMI3.2
Between the lower extridtê0inférieur of the axis and the upper end of the control shaft 1, intended to drive this axis, there is provided a ball 15 engaged in a correspondingly shaped cavity of each of said ends and serving for the transmission of the rotation of the drive shaft
14 to axis 3.
In addition, two plates 16,16 'are provided respectively integral with the axis 2 and the shaft 14 and inclined helical springs 17 working in traction and constantly tending to bring the plates closer to one another, so as to ensure good transmission of the control of the basket, or of its braking when the braking of the control shaft is operated in the manner which will be described below.
The drive of the control shaft 14, mounted on ball bearings in a housing, is ensured by the cooperation of a conical friction wheel 18, mounted on this shaft with another friction wheel 19 wedged on the shaft. motor 20 carrying a drive pulley 21. The wheel 18 is mounted on the shaft 14 so as to be able to slide along the latter. It is subjected to the action of a spring 22, which constantly tends to press it against the wheel 19.
On the arbee 14 under the wheel 18 comes to take the forked end of a rod pivoted at 24 on the aforesaid casing and the other end of which is freely articulated to a second rod 25 articulated at one end of an angled lever 26 pivoting at 27 on the upper part of the esE'oreuse, the other end of this lever 26 being fixed to the cover 28 of the wringer;
It will be easily understood by referring to the drawing, that when this cover is raised the wheel 18 is lifted, in antagonism with the spring 22, which causes the casing of the wheel 19,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and that it is applied against a brake 29 fixed above it to the aforesaid housing.
On the contrary when the lid is closed, the forked end of the rod 23 is lowered and the wheel 18 is pressed together by its spring 22 against the; wheel 19. It is also clear that thanks to the combination of 1 @ large liberé of the ball 1't'iculst @ on 15, with the oscillation compensating springs 11 and the gyrostatic wheel 2, any transission of the oscillations of the basket to the frame and its envelope is practically impossible, while leaving the necessary play for oscillations / whatever their amplitude.
Likewise, it is obvious that the work of the various repairs is reduced to a minimum, that no appreciable fatigue of these can occur and that the rupture of these springs, even in their entirety, could not lead to an accident, but only stopping the recycle bin.
It must be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the constitution, the number and the arrangement of the elements involved in its realization without departing from the scope of the present patent application, provided that these changes are compatible with the spirit of the claims set out below.
Thus, for example, the compression springs 11 could be replaced by tension springs fixed to the frame under the plate 8 and to the underside of this plate so as to attract the latter constantly downwards. .
Likewise the inclined springs 17 could be replaced by vertical springs and so on.
