<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 montre en élévation la face interne de la courroie;
Fig. 2 en est la vue de côté; fig. 3 est une coupe a plus grande échelle faite par A-A de. la fig.l;
Fig. 4 montre partiellement en coupe la courroie appliquée contre la jante d'une poulie;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Suction cup belt for transmission.
A type of transmission belt is known which, in order to increase the adhesion to the rim of the pulleys, comprises on the internal face, adhesive members spaced from one another on all sides and formed by pellets or washers of compressible material. , impregnated with an adhesive substance and fixed by means of a central eyelet or rivet.
With this process, if the wear of the belt is saved at the beginning, the protective washers themselves absorb this wear as well as the rivets and these, flush with the said washers - are directly in contact with the rim of the pulleys - and cause slippage on the rim, resulting in a decrease in grip and, consequently, in transmission force.
In addition, it is not possible to cross the belts.
The invention relates to a suction cup belt which overcomes the wear thereof, resisting for a long period before the suction cups are out of use, avoiding, on the other hand, the contact of the rivets with the rim and any slip, allowing,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in addition, by the design of the suction cups, the crossing of the belt.
Fig. 1 shows in elevation the internal face of the belt;
Fig. 2 is the side view; fig. 3 is a section on a larger scale made by A-A of. fig.l;
Fig. 4 shows partially in section the belt applied against the rim of a pulley;
Fig. 5 and 6 relate to variant embodiments. The belt is constituted 'by its ordinary strip 1 of leather, balata, or other, of appropriate width, more especially of a great width up to 1 meter, because it is above all these straps, currently of a great price, which it is a question of safeguarding against premature wear.
The internal face which is applied to the rim is fitted with flexible and resistant members, preferably in chromed leather, arranged regularly, with regular intervals between them, over the entire width and over the entire length of the belt.
These members include thick washers 2 with a larger central hole than the fixing rivet 3 which at the same time assembles a tongue 4 whose end 5 is riveted directly to the body of the belt.
The suction cup effect is achieved only for the part of the tongue superimposed on the washer 2. In fact, as the washer 2 is provided with a wide hole 6, it is understood that when the rivet is crushed, the tongue 4 is deforms into a cup by partial penetration into this hole and gives it the appearance of a suction cup, this form of suction cup is important because the head of the rivet is lowered or embedded in the bottom of the leather cup formed in the tongue 4, which protects the rivet from contact with the rim of the pulley for a very long period of time (which can be estimated at several years) for a permanent running of the belt, that is to say day and night.
When the suction cups are genuinely worn, it is possible to
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
either simply change the tabs 4 or, if possible, place the tabs 4 "head to tail" which will give the belt a new look of use. In any case, the thickness 2 washers, always protected against wear, can be used again indefinitely.
The intervals reserved between the protection members described allow the belt to play for its deformation on the rim of the pulleys.
Another characteristic of the belt resides in the fact that the members described, in addition to having a difference in level or inclination between their fixing points in their longitudinal arrangement, are successively reversed in their adjacent arrangement, over the width. of the belt, the suction cup part or upper part alternating with the lower part of the tongue, a favorable arrangement and allowing the crossing of the belt, that is to say an oblique passage without catching the members in question.
The belt fitted as described can be used with or without a clutch, as a straight or crossed belt, in all uses, on all devices, be of any length and width and be of suitable material.
It is also advantageously possible to arrange the longitudinal rows of the members, so that they are staggered, as shown in FIG. 5 and 6 ..
In Fig. 6, the tabs are diamond shaped, or elongated oval, the suction cups are in the center which allows the direction of travel of the belt to be reversed.
