<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

This upper frame is formed by side members 12 and cross members 13 joined to each other in any suitable manner.
The outer edges of the crosspieces 13 are / rounded as shown at 14 to form handles making it possible to handle the device and move it as needed. To the side members 12 are fixed by means of bolts 15 two spaced suspension members or pendarts 16 in which are mounted upper shafts the.
The lower ends of these hangers 15 are spaced apart and: umaintained fixedly relative to each other by means of links 19. On the shafts 18 are mounted for free rotation a number of coils 20.

its whole by 25 to the upper frame while ensuring the first the required mobility. This rod is threaded at its lower end 24 engaged in a cross member 25. an anchor 25 secures the immobilization of the lower end of the rod 22 relative to the cross member 25.
On a cross member 28 fixed to the longitudinal members 12 of the upper frame is supported a sleeve 29 through which the rod 22 slides. This rod is provided with a sliding groove 30 in which is engaged a key 31 mounted in the sleeve and stopping the rotation of the rod 22 in this manohon 29 while allowing the longitudinal movement of this rod. On the upper end of the sleeve 29 is mounted a collar 32 freely receiving the rod 22 and having on a portion of its internal face an internal thread for housing the lower turns of the end of a coil spring 33. The collar 32 is provided. a pin 34 engaged in the groove 30 of the rod 22 and opposing any roation of the / collar relative to the rod.
The collar 32 is held in engagement with the upper end of the sleeve 29 by means of a cap 35 threaded at its lower end to screw onto the upper threaded end of the sleeve 29. The cap. 35 is provided with an internal shoulder 36 attacking the upper face of the collar 38.
Above cap 35 and at some distance from it is an upper collar 38 which can slide freely on the rod !!. mail :! is provided with a pin 39 engaged in the groove 39 of the rod 22 and thus preventing any mutual rotation between this rod and the collar 38. a bolt 40 implanted in the collar 38 and able to come into contact with its internal end the rod is provided with a finned head forming a gripping member 41.
A similar bolt 42 screwed into the sleeve 29 is also provided with a head 43. With the lower frame 23 of the apparatus are two hangers 45 bolted to the cross member 25. These

pendarts 45 are also provided with bearings 45 in which are supported to be able to turn two spaced shafts 47.
At their lower ends these hangers 45 are joined by a rod 48 while the upper hangers 16 are added.
On the shafts 18 are freely mounted a series of reels 29, and each of the lower shafts 47 carries, likewise freely mounted on it, a series of reels 51. The film is inserted over the upper group of reels 20 and the lower group of reels 51, so that when the ends of the film are joined, it receives a continuous impulse over the reels as shown in fig. 2. a device is provided to actuate the coils; it is formed by a drive roller 55 preferably provided with a slightly elastic surface. This roller 55 is mounted on a shaft 56 actuated in any suitable manner by an electric motor 57.
This motor is mounted on a cross member 58 supported by the upper frame 11. In the constructive embodiment shown, this motor is mounted on an arm 59 articulated to the cross member at 60, so that the weight of the motor is supported by the wheel. - the drive water 55 and that it is kept in flexible contact with the peripheral edges of some of the reels 20. As shown in fig, 1, the drive roller 55 covers the peripheries of three of the reels supporting the film . The assembly can of course be supported in the tank 10 by inserting it therein, so that the upper frame 11 rests on the upper edge of this tank, as shown in fig, 1.
The lower frame 23 carrying the lower film-supporting spools is carried so by the upper frame that this lower frame is pushed downwards by the spring 33. This causes the elongation of the film due to its immersion in it. the liquid in the bath is compensated and that the film is kept fairly tight over the coils of the apparatus. The parts of it which provide the support of the lower frame when it is at re-

pos are shown in fig. 4. This is the case, for example, when the support or rack is not in use and is placed on the ground. In this position, the lower bolt 42 is tightened against the rod 22, which immobilizes the latter and prevents it from moving vertically in the manohon 29.
The bolt 40 is shown withdrawn from its engagement with the rod 22. which makes it possible to say that the spring 33 is not tensioned under normal conditions. When the film is engaged on the spools of the rack and the latter is ready to be placed in a tank, and while the bolt ¯42 is engaged with the rod 22, the oollier 38 is moved manually up and down on the rod 22 to bring it to the position shown in FIG. 3. The bolt 40 is then engaged in the collar 38 to such an extent that this bolt closely engages the rod 22. This has the effect of putting the spring 33 under tension, after which the bolt 42 is released from the rod 22.
When the members oooupent the position shown in fig.3 and that can be called the working position, the lower end of the spring being fixed to the collar 32 and the spring being under tension and secured by its upper end to the upper collar 38, the rod is pulled down by the tension of the spring 33, This lowering of the rod is aided by the weight of the lower frame and the coils mounted on it, the combined action of this weight and the tension of the spring ensuring that during moistening and stretching of the film it bears properly against the upper and lower spools with sufficient friction to ensure the driving of the film. in a continuous spiral path during treatment.
It will be appreciated that when the film is extracted from the various baths and is exposed to air or artificially dried by an air current, the film contracts and tends to move the lower frame towards the upper frame. To do this movement, the bolt 40 is loosened, which allows the shortening.

ment of the film under the action of the weight of the lower frame and the reels mounted on it,
Various views of construction can be made to the device without departing from the invention, the scope of which is not limited to what is shown and has just been described.
