<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 14 montre une variante de réalisation.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Change of speed for velocipedes, oourse and road.
This new shifting system for normal velocipeds works in three or four gears without ever leaving position. The chain, whether on fifteen or twenty-four teeth, always keeps its horizontal line.
It is by a combined set of rollers that the chain keeps a reotilinear line, which goes from the plateau to the freewheel, without having any flotation.
The chain can, despite its direct position, be extended or shortened by seven links, that is to say fourteen centimeters.
This new gear change system, never before produced, has the advantage of not letting the chain float, whatever the speed you take; only the pivoting axis which keeps the chain taut at will, receives the jolts of road accidents because the tension spring which only works if you change speed pivots with the axis without ever slackening. This is the great innovation, and because of this it is impossible for the chain to jump out of its sprockets.
This new gear change brings many advantages to the cyclist that no other gear change has given before. It can also equip well
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a racing or road bike. On city bikes, and here is the importance of the invention, it is possible to adapt the gear change inside a housing which would envelop the whole of the crankset, that is to say the chainring. to the rear wheel, without having to modify anything on the bike.
The person who in the city hesitates to take his bike because he is in clean clothes, will no longer have this problem if he has a complete casing which will guarantee him the bottom of his pants from the grease of the chain and the fear of it. see it get caught in the gear of the crankset, and at the same time it will have the satisfaction, not only of having a bicycle completely for the city, but it will have for its course at its disposal three or four speeds which will give it back its pleasant outing. other
The / advantages of this new device:
1) The chain cannot under any circumstances relax on its own, only the maneuver of changing gears relaxes it.
2) The assembly axis is no longer fixed, it pivots on itself and divides all the movements of the entire device, the chain tension spring is integral with the axis, it constantly keeps its pressure on the jaws of the casters, and even if for some reason the chain were to be violently agitated by the poor condition of the ground, the spring would turn on itself, causing the jaws in its movement. , which means that nothing can relax it, thus leaving any risk of chain skipping aside.
3) It is also possible, and this for racing bikes, to mount the device at the rear of the crankset, by only changing the mounting bracket as shown in fig. 14 of the attached drawings.
4) A new shifter system will operate the chain derailleur fork, any cable sheath spring, cable stopper, etc. have been removed, all of this has been replaced by a simple rigid rod with a hand adjustment which
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
will prevent the chain from jumping out of the freewheel during gear change maneuvers,
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows an overall view of the device mounted on a bicycle.
Figs. 2 to 13 give the different parts of the device disassembled before assembly.
Fig. 14 shows an alternative embodiment.
Fig. 15 is a section on Z-Z of FIG. 14.
Fig. 16 shows in elevation, according to an alternative embodiment, the control of a fork by flexible rod.
Fig. 17 shows in elevation the articulation part serving for fixing the steel wire.
Fig. 1 shows the collar of the assembly which fits the rear fork of the frame, near the crankset, this collar is provided with a threaded stud to allow the support bracket to fit there, this tab will be held at the stud of the collar 1 by the fixing hole 3, Once this operation is done. introduced into the recess of the lug 2 the assembly pin 4, which, provided with a shoulder, will hold a jaw 5 and these will be kept in constant tension by the spring 6 which comes in fit in the slot of the assembly pin 4.
This operation done, and to complete the complete assembly of the device, put a new so-called fixed jaw 7, to screw the cone 8 on the axis of the assembly, then put the fixed roller 9, put the cone again. 10, to complete the complete assembly of the device, we put two jaws 13 and 14 again and fix the whole by the nut 15 which, provided with a shoulder in which the upper part of the jaw is inserted. 14 thus giving the apparatus its rotational movement. In each
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
lower parts of the jaws will fit the rollers 11 and 12 which will keep the chain constantly taut.
To change gears, assemble the so-called chain "derailleur" device as follows:
Adapt the collar and its lever I to the vertical tube of the frame near the fork, screw a first rod II to the lug of the lever I, fit the assembly and adjustment collar 3 to the lower part of the vertical and central tube of the frame, near the boot of the crankset; the lower part of the rod II will be screwed to the circular and removable tab of the collar 5 .. Screw at the other end a new rod 4 which will complete the assembly of the chain derailleur device by screwing to the lug of the said derailleur y which will be attached to the tube of the bicycle's rear fork near the freewheel.
According to the invention, it is possible to produce a control acting by pressure and traction, as required, and not using the usual linkages.
For example, the fork could be controlled by a steel rod of the "piano wire" type mounted in a sheath, stopped in the vicinity of the fork as well as in the vicinity of the lever. - The said piano wire is fixed in composing pieces. sées a stepped axle with side hole and locking. Each of these parts may have a rotational movement avoiding any twisting or bending with a small radius of curvature prejudicial to the life of the steel. Finally, the lever of any model will be provided with a system formed by a ball and a spring in a suitable cavity or housing so that when the lever moves in front of a sector carrying hollow primers of holes or "blind housings" ", the ball partially engages in one of the said holes.
The spacing of said holes or housings will be such that it corresponds exactly to the desired positions of the control lever for the speeds.

chosen.
The accompanying drawing, shows in FIG. 16 in A the fork lever B the articulation piece of said lever, in C the piano wire, in D the sheath, in the control lever, in F the ball and its spring, in the fixed sector, in H aies housings, in I the articulation and fixing part of the steel wire (piano wire). We see in fig, 17 of the accompanying drawing in elevation view the articulation piece used for fixing the steel wire; The fixing nut is shown, in 5 the washer, in L the passage trau of the steel wire. Part M is threaded so as to be able to receive a nut (not shown) for locking the steel wire in piano wire. Said part 1 being able to turn in its housing where it bears by the part% alone.
The present invention has been described and illustrated purely as an indication and in no way limiting and it goes without saying that numerous modifications can be made to its details without departing from its spirit.
