Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  "Coupling change in regression"
By its patent No 434. 554 of May 26, 1939, the Applicant Company covered the automatic change of couplings of electric motors by the application of amperometric devices, arranged to cut the connections of the "bridge" at the appropriate time during the series transition. in parallel for example.

In the patent application filed on June 18, 1947 for "ELECTRIC TRACTION EQUIPMENT", this method was applied to equipment which performs more than two couplings, instead of two.

Finally, by its patent application filed on January 2, 1948 for: "AUTOMATIC COUPLING CHANGE SYSTEMS", the Applicant Company replaced the amperometric relays with all other devices sensitive to the value and direction of the currents which cross the bridges, and in particular by devices likely

to compare the currents of the motors with the currents of the resistors.

These three inventions make it possible to carry out automatically and without variations of the torque all balanced transitions during the "progression" that is to say during the increase in the voltage of the motors.

The present invention, the Heidmann system. is intended to produce the same results weighting the "regression" o that is to say when reducing the voltage of the motors.

To go through the exemption from parallel coupling to series coupling, the bridge connection (s) should be closed at a time such that this closure does not give rise to any variation in the motor torque.

We begin by gradually reintroducing the resistors, as schematically shown in the accompanying explanatory drawing, on which we see for example two motors and II and the two rheostats R1 and R2.

Contactor C of the AB bridge connection is still open.

As the resistances increase, the voltage V1 at the motor terminals decreases, while the voltage V2 at the terminals of R2 increases, and contactor C must be closed when these two voltages are equal.

For this purpose, it is possible, in accordance with the invention, to use voltmetric relays which measure the voltages between points A and B and which control the closing of the contactors C when these voltages are substantially zero.

These voltmetric relays can be replaced by any device sensitive to the direction of the voltage and arranged to intervene when the voltage is reversed.

It is also possible to apply relays which compare the voltages V1 and V2 and intervene when their equality is approximately reached.

The invention can be applied to equipment with two or more motor couplings.
