 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 supprimer diverses cloisons 12.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

   These ovens are known either under the name of "individual burner ovens" or under the name of "underjet ovens",

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 expression which recalls the fact that these ovens are built on a platform under which is provided a large hall in which the gas distribution members are located.

   The distribution of the gas in the various flues is thus carried out on cold gas using devices such as diaphragms which can be exactly calibrated: the distribution obtained is stable, that is to say it will not depend on either the speed of the furnaces or the calorific value or the more or less high density of the gas used for heating.

     The advantages of this ovens. From the point of view of regularity of operation and calorific economy, the possibility of applying the same principle has been sought in the case of lean gas heating of gasifiers or blast furnaces:
However, when the lean gas is used for heating the furnaces, this gas must be reheated before combustion by recovery from the sensible heat contained in the flue gases. The individual distribution of the lean gas for heating to the various flues is d A much more complicated realization than that of the rich gas: in fact, the various solutions proposed so far do not meet the desired goal and do not make it possible to adequately ensure the distribution of the lean gas to the various carnations.

   The present invention relates to a type of coke oven in which the distribution of the heating gas can be properly ensured both in the case of heating with rich gas and in the case of heating with lean gas using actuators. on cold gas and placed outside the oven itself.

   For this purpose, the distribution channel at the base of the regenerators communicates with each of the various compartments of these regenerators by a converging orifice that diverges from the

 which injector is associated in which a fraction of the air or gas necessary for combustion is admitted; the injectors are connected to pipes making it possible to admit air, fumes or an inert fluid in the periods when the corresponding regenerator is for fumes, The 'injectors' are also connected to pipes allowing to admit air or gas during the periods when. the regenerator is in air or gas, 'air or an inert fluid in the periods when the regenerator is in fumes.

  The relative flow rates of air, gas or inert fluid admitted during the various periods are adjusted so as to maintain the various compartments of the rising regenerators at the same pressure. Stack columns isolated from the rest of the regenerators are established in correspondence with the various flues and communicate at their base with the channel of the base of the regenerator by a convergent orifice which is associated with an injector.

   An example of an embodiment of a coke oven according to the invention will be described below, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a partial cross section of a coke oven battery constructed in accordance with the invention.

   FIG. 2 is a partial longitudinal section of a furnace along a heating pedestal and the axis of a regenerator.

   Figure 3 is an enlarged detail of the base of a regenerator.

   FIGS. 4 and 5 are similar views but for different embodiments of the invention.

   Figure 6 is a partial section of the base of a regenerator in the case of a variant.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Figures 7 and 8 are partial cross-sections and longitudinal sections of a furnace according to a different embodiment of the invention.

   Referring to Figures 1 and 2 it can be seen that a battery of ovens consists of a certain number of ovens 1 separated by piers 2 in which various heating flues 3 are formed.

   In the type of oven shown, the various rings of a side wall are connected by their upper part to the corresponding flues of the neighboring side wall by means of a certain number of channels 4 passing above the vault of the oven, but the invention applies without modification to other furnace systems comprising different heating circuits.

   Under the ovens are the regenerators 5 and 6 which are connected to the flues of the piers by ducts 7 and 8. The various regenerators are separated by piers 9 and 10. The piers 9 located under the piers of the furnaces have vertical ducts 11 used to bring the rich gas to the base of the heating flues. The pedestal 10 separates the regenerators 6 placed under the furnaces, which are used for reheating the air, from those traversed by the descending fumes.

   The various regenerators 5 and 6 are divided by partitions 12 into a number of compartments each corresponding to a heating flue of the side wall (s) connected with this regenerator. The regenerator could also be partitioned into various compartments each corresponding to a number of de.carneaux without this modifying the spirit of the invention.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   At the base of the regenerators are the horizontal channels 13 extending over the entire length of the regenerator and communicating through one or both ends with valves allowing either to be placed in communication with a smoke-collecting flue. connected to the chimney for the evacuation of fumes, or to admit air or lean gas in the case of heating with lean gas, air. being admitted into the regenerators 6 and the lean gas into the regenerators 5.

   In Figure II we see the reversal valve 14 which, by means of suitable valves operated by the reversal device, can connect the channel 13 of the corresponding regenerator either to the flue gas collector 15 or to the exhaust manifold. lean gas inlet 16.

   In the case of rich gas heating, all regenerators are used for heating the air. The valve 14 is then isolated from the manifold 16 and the valve 17 placed in connection with the reversing device makes it possible to admit, at a suitable period, air into the regenerators 5.

   Under the ovens is the manifold 10 serving to bring the rich gas to the various flues through the pipes 19 and 20 placed at the base of the various ducts 11. On the pipes 20 are placed the regulating members, diaphragms or others, serving. to ensure correct distribution of the gas in the various heating flues. On the pipes 19 there are stop cocks 21 and the overturning members 22 operated by the overturning device, so as to admit the gas into the corresponding piers; at suitable times.

   Under the furnaces are also two manifolds 25 and 24, the manifold 23 allowing lean gas to be supplied to the furnaces, and the manifold 24 containing air.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 under light pressure. The collector 23 is connected by means of the stop 25 and reversal members 26 to the pipes 27. The collector 24 is likewise connected by the intermediary of a reversal member 28 to the pipe 29.

   The horizontal channels 13 located at the base of the regenerators communicate with the various compartments of the corresponding regenerators by means of converging divergent orifices 30. Opposite each orifice is an injector 31 which for the regenerators 5 communicates with the pipes. 27 by means of the pipes 22. On which are placed the adjustment members, diaphragms or other 33. For the regenerators 6, the injectors 31 are connected with the pipes 29 by the pipes 34 on which are placed the adjustment members, diaphragms or the like 35.

   When the coil is heated with lean gas, most of the gas is admitted by the manifold 16 and the reversal valves 14. Likewise, the greater part of the air is admitted by the reversal valves joined to the channels. 13 regenerators 6.

   The additional lean gas and air necessary for heating is admitted by the manifolds 23 and 24 and the injectors 31.

   As a result of the arrangement of the converging and diverging orifices 30 and of the injectors 31, the quantity of gas or air passing from the horizontal channel 13 to the various compartments of the regenerators 5 and 6 will vary as will the flow of gas or air. air at the outlet of the injectors 31. By acting, as the case may be, on the regulating members 33 and 35 located outside the furnaces and operating on cold gas, the quantity of gas can therefore be modified at will. air

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 or gas passing through the various compartments of the regenerators 5 or 6 and therefore ensuring the desired distribution of air and gas in the various flues of the side walls.

  This distribution will be stable, being maintained whatever the speed of the furnaces or the variations of the gases used.

   Figures III, IV, and V show various arrangements of the injectors and orifices 30. According to Figure III, the injector is located in the axis of the corresponding channel 13. In FIG. IV, it is placed against the wall of the channel 13 and can even form part of the masonry of this wall. According to Figure V, the injector is provided in the side wall 9 of the corresponding regenerator.

   We could also have a number of other provisions; it suffices that the injector is suitably disposed with respect to the orifices 30.

   Instead of admitting gz and air into the collectors 23 and 24, it will be possible to admit air, fumes or any inert fluid under a slight pressure.

  The overturning members 26 and 28 will then be arranged so that the admission of this fluid takes place in the smoke regenerators, that is to say connected to the collecting flue 1c by the reversing valves.

   In this case, the arrangement of the injectors and the converging divergent orifices will cause the establishment of a slight back pressure at the base of the compartments of the corresponding regenerator 5 or 6 which will cause a decrease in the total quantity of flowing smoke. through this orifice, ie the quantity of air and gas admitted to the base of the burning flues of the corresponding side wall.

  By acting appropriately on the adjustment members 33 or 35, it is therefore possible to modify the quantity of fuel and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 air intake in the different flues, the adjustment in front, in this case, be made for each group of flues associated with the same channel 4.

   According to FIG. VI, the injectors 31 can be combined with two pipes 36 and 37, one of these pipes serving for the admission of lean gas in the case of gas regenerators 5 or of gas generators. air in the case of air regenerators 6; the other pipe 37 serving for the admission of any fluid, air or smoke: The overturning members of the pipes 36 or 37 will be operated in such a way that the pipe 36 admits gas or air into the pipes. periods when the corresponding regenerator is used for heating the air or gas, the inert fluid being admitted into the pipe 37 during the period when the corresponding regenerator is for the fumes.

   By acting simultaneously on the regulating members 38 and 39, it will not only be possible to ensure the desired distribution of lean gas and air in the various compartments of the regenerators and consequently of the various heating flues, but also to influence the the pressure regime in the various circuits.

   It will therefore be possible, for example, to arrange for the various compartments serving for heating the lean gas or the air from the regenerators 5 or 6 are at the same pressure, or at extremely similar pressures. This equal pressure will have the result that any leaks in the partitions 12 will not hinder the good distribution of the lean gas and of the air as regulated by means of the members 38.

   In Figures VII and VIII there is provided a different embodiment in which the adjustment does not take place on all of the fluid admitted to the base of each flue, but only on a fraction of this fluid. In this case, we can

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 remove various partitions 12.

   A stack of pottery 40 is associated with each duct7 or 8 connecting the regenerator to the pedestal of the kiln. These pottery pieces arranged so as to constitute a sealed channel, have a certain number of partitions internally ensuring a good exchange surface in view. to allow the recovery of heat from the fumes and the heating of the fluid, air or gas.

   At the top, the stack of pottery 40 engages at the entrance of the conduits 7 or 8 by a slightly narrowed part 41 so that the fluids leaving the stack of pottery 40 enter the conduits 7. or 8 depending on the direction of these conduits, with a certain speed. ,
Below each of the stacks of pottery 40 is a converging divergent orifice 30 which connects it to the corresponding channel 13. Each orifice 30 is associated with an injector 31.

   In addition, the channels 13 communicate with the regenerators proper outside the conduits 40 through a series of orifices 42.

   By acting suitably on the quantity of make-up gas admitted into the various injectors 31, it is possible to vary as desired the quantity of air or gas admitted into the stacks of pottery 40 and, consequently, into the conduits 7 and 8 of the various flues. The mode of connection between the pottery 40 and the conduits 7 or 8 will be such that the quantity of fluid admitted by the pottery 40 will have a very slight suction action on the fluid usually passing from the regenerator in the conduits 7. or 8. It suffices, moreover, for the aim sought, that an increase

 The quantity of fluid admitted by the pottery 40 does not lead to a significant reduction in the quantity of fluid passing directly from the regenerator to the flue via the conduits 7 or 8.

   Under these conditions, as before, it will be possible to adjust the quantity of air or gas admitted into the various flues of the heating pedestal.
