 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

    SPEED VARIATES
The present invention relates to a speed variator characterized by the arrangements which make it possible to vary the torque received by the receiving shaft in inverse proportion to the speed of this shaft.

   This device consists essentially of a gearbox with progressive change of speeds and an automatic device for controlling this change of speeds.

   The accompanying drawings show, by way of example:
Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of the gear boot.

   Figure 2 is a schematic view of the control device.

   All the components (fig.l) are contained inside the fixed casing 1; on the control shaft 2 is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 keyed the pinion 3 which drives the planet wheels 4 and 4a which transmit their movement to the internal toothed crown 5; the planet wheels 4 and 4a rotate on their axes supported by the sun gear 6 keyed to the receiver shaft 7. The ring gear 5 is integral with the pinion 8 which meshes with the pinions 9 and 9a which are respectively secured to the pinions 10 and 10aw driving in turn the pinion 11 integral with the support 12 of the satellites 13 and 13a of a differential train; the bevel gear 14 is keyed on the shaft 7 and the bevel gear 15 is integral with the rotor 16 of the vane oil compressor 17.

   The arrival of the oil to the compressor is made through the orifice 18, by means, for example, of a pump driven by the shaft 2 and if necessary by an additional pump driven by the receiver 7.

   When the car is started, the negative torque of crown gear 5 is multiplied twice by the complex gear at a positive rate made up of gears 8 - 9 and 9a; 10 and 10a 11 and is transmitted to the support 12 while the pinion 14 receives the positive torque from the sun gear 6; satellites 13 and 13a will receive and transmit the sum of these torques, positive and negative, to pinion 15 which will be driven by a negative movement; this sliding will be braked by the rotor of the compressor 16, the sliding of which will be controlled by the automatic adjustment of the oil discharge which is effected through the orifice 19. The satellites are supported on the teeth of the pinion 15 which allows the positive torque to produce its effect via the pinion 14.

   When the pinion 15 is immobilized, it will be the direct drive, the satellites 4 and 4a will no longer turn on their axes, the command and reception speeds will be equal and the whole of the pinion 11 and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 of support 12 will turn at half this speed, the receiver only receiving the value of the motor torque.

   Reverse gear can be obtained by adding the pinions 20 and 20a respectively secured to the planet wheels 4 and 4a; the first will roll around the pinion 21 integral with the plate 22; which will be made fixed by a magnetic ring 23, held in place on the fixed frame by grooves. The compressor must be emptied of its oil, i.e. in the disengaged position.

   The automatic speed adjustment is carried out by means of the device shown in figure 2.

   The oil sent by a pump arrives at the three-position selector 24; the lever 25, placed near the conductor, controls a toothed sector 26 actuating the piston 27 provided with a circular groove 27a which allows the oil to flow into the compressor through the orifice 18 (fig.l ) or the crankcase.

   This is how, by sending oil to the compressor, -the forward gear; for disengagement and reverse gear, the oil returns to the crankcase. In combination with the reverse gear, a contactor 36 is arranged which will close the electrical circuit of the magnetic ring 23 (fig.l).

   The evacuation of the oil at the outlet of the compressor is automatically regulated by the piston 2? B provided with a circular groove 27c allowing the passage of the oil, this piston moves in a bore made on the compressor 17 and closes the orifice 19; it is controlled by a rod 28 actuated by a toothed sector 29 on which it is centered; this sector is driven by the endless screw 30 controlled by an electric micro-motor 31 which receives the current from the reverser actuated by the electromagnet 32 composed

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 two coils supplied, one or the other, depending on the case by means of a member 33 of the tachometer type, controlled by the motor shaft.

   The needle of this tachometer is connected to the mass; in the center is an axis supporting an index 34, made of insulating material, provided, at its end, with two pads each connected to one of the two coils of the electro 32; the index is controlled by the accelerator pedal 35; their strokes will therefore be proportional. When the engine races due to the position given to the accelerator, the tachometer needle comes into contact with the right pin of the index, closing the coil circuit, which allows the arrival. current to the micromotor, which will then rotate in the proper direction to reduce the discharge of oil from the compressor; the escape speed of pinion 15 will be further braked.

  On the contrary, if the motor slows down due to the position given to the accelerator, the circuit of the second coil will be closed; the mieromotor will allow the oil to be evacuated more quickly from the compressor; when equilibrium is established, that is to say when the engine torque is equal to the resistive torque, the tachometer needle will be located between the two pins of the index. Depending on the spacing of these two studs, a more or less large margin will be obtained between the times of speed variation.

  Switches A and B limit the stroke of sector 29 in both directions. For reverse gear and disengagement, it is necessary to send the current to the coil, which will allow the complete evacuation of the oil from the compressor. at the same time as the circuit of the other coil will be cut in order to cancel the role of the tachometer.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   The automatic speed variation can optionally be replaced by a servo controlled by hand, in particular in the case of the device being used for machine tools.
