Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   En suite de quoi, et quel que soit le mode de réa- lisation adopté, on a établi des plaques, tuyaux, etc... en agglomérats composés de substances fibreuses et liantes par des moyens présentant de nombreux avantages par rapport aux prooédés et machines du genre déjà existants, notamment : -celui de permettre de simplifier les installations et machines, et de n'exiger qu'une force motrice mains im- portante, notamment du fait que le tamis rotatif des maohines usuelles est supprimé, la bande formant à la fois tamis et feutre de transport ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 - celui de conduire à l'obtention de produite fibreux dans lesquels les fibres n'ont pas une orientation privilé- giée, cela grâce au fait que, d'une part, la bande filtran- te n'a aucune action d'orientation sur les fibres dans le bac mélangeur,   comme   cela se passe dans les machines à tamis rotatif et, d'autre part, la oouohe est formée directement sur cette bande ou tapis de transport d'où il résulte que les produits finis ont la même résistance en tous   sens;     c'est-   à-dire aussi bien dans le sens transversal que dans le sens longitudinal;

  "Improvements made to the means for the manufacture of plates and pipes in agglomerates composed of fibrous and binding substances, in particular asbestos cement."
The invention relates to means, that is to say to processes and machines for the manufacture of plates (flat or corrugated), pipes or other elements in agglomerates composed of fibrous substances and hydraulic binders; and it relates more particularly, because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest, but not exclusively, among these means, those for the manufacture of plates, pipes or other elements in asbestos-cement.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Its aim, above all, is to make the said means such that they meet, better than hitherto, the various desiderata of practice.

   It consists mainly - and at the same time in bringing or manufacturing in a suitable tank the mixture, in suspension in water, of fibrous and binding materials intended to be deposited in successive layers on a driven-format cylinder. in rotation -, to have recourse, to transport films of this mixture from the tank to the cylinder, to an endless flexible belt.

   It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.

   It relates more particularly to certain modes of application as well as certain embodiments of said provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and oe as new industrial products, devices and machines implementing the means of the kind in question and comprising application of these provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as the finished products, plates and pipes in particular, obtained with the aid of similar devices and machines.

   And it can, in any case, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the accompanying drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.

   Fig. 1 of this drawing is a diagram illustrating a first embodiment of an asbestos-cement machine established in accordance with the invention.

   Fig. 2, finally, shows, likewise, another embodiment of the invention.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that the preference should be granted, proposing to establish asbestos-cement sheets or pipes, the procedure is as follows or analogously.

   One starts from a mixture of fibrous materials and binder contained in at least one tank 1, with filling means 3 and, if necessary, agitating means 3 to maintain the homogeneity, and one uses, for transport the material on at least one forming cylinder 4 (or other member comparable to it). to a permeable and continuous flexible strip collecting a film of the mixture as it passes near the tank and depositing it on said cylinder by direct or indirect contact with the latter,
For this purpose, for example, according to a first embodiment (fig.

   1), the cylinder 4 is mounted on an axis 5 connected to a suitable drive system and the flexible strip 6 is passed around a portion of this cylinder, guiding it with the aid of rollers such as 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 fixed, at least some of which may be adjustable, either by displacement along their axis, or perpendicularly, in particular to adjust the position of the strip and its tension.

   On the other hand, a certain number of windows, slots or notches are provided in an inclined wall at the bottom of the container 1 through which the mixture of fibrous materials and binder can be deposited on the strip 6, the trajectory of which. is precisely arranged so as to come and lick this indented wall *
Suitable sealing devices are provided, if necessary, at the places where the strip passes through the container *

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

Part of the excess water filters through the flexible strip and is thus deposited in the gutter 12 from where it is evaouée towards a container 13 by the pipe 14.

   Immediately afterwards, if necessary, the major part of the water still remaining in excess is removed by subjecting the strip 6 to suitable dewatering means, for example to the action of the aid exerted by 16 in a box 15 placed under the strip.

   Said strip continuing its movement, applies the film with which it is covered against those which are already deposited at 17 on the format cylinder 4; it is made to travel a relatively large arc of a cylinder and, preferably, at least equal to a half-oirconferenoe.

   To separate this film from the strip and make it adhere to the underlying layers, it is applied to it by the pressure developed by pressing or other means, such as a cylinder 18 mounted on a pin 19, itself supported by two arms 20 pivotally mounted about a fixed axis 21; the contact pressure is regulated by means of an adjustable counterweight 22, for example, or any other means (springs, pneumatic devices, etc.).

   It should be noted that the pressing cylinder 18 Jour has a complementary wiping role and which, together with the roller 8, contributes to facilitating the detachment of the film from the strip when it leaves the latter. These two rollers, wringer 18 and spring 8, will be arranged in a suitable manner, preferably below the forming cylinder 4, to ensure the peeling action. It seems advisable to place the roller 8 in such a way that the wrapping of the cylinder 4 by the strip 6 extends a little beyond the generator of contact with the roller 18. The best possible adjustment is to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 obtain the ideal conditions, the pressure of the extractor cylinder 18, in particular by moving the counterweight 22.

   Once the thickness has been reached for the layer 17, by removing it from the cylinder 4 if it is intended to obtain pipes, or it is split according to a generatrioe, after which it is shaped in any suitable manner, depending on the nature of the pipes. parts to be obtained.

   According to a second embodiment, the cylinder 4 is mounted on an axis 23 and provision is made for the flexible strip 6 to be driven, on the one hand, mainly by a drive cylinder 24 located upstream of the cylinder 4 and advantageously of diameter of the same order as the diameter of said cylinder 4, driving cylinder on which the strip 6 winds in a relatively large arc, preferably at least 1800, and, on the other hand, incidentally, by the cylinder trainer 4 which receives its movement from the driving cylinder, for example by means of a friction transmission ensuring the exaote concordance of the peripheral speeds.

   A large winding arc is provided, here again preferably at least 180, of the flexible strip on the cylinder 4 and this tension is then passed over rollers 25 and 10 which can be adjusted by displacement along their axis or perpendicularly. in order to ensure the adjustment of the position and the tension of the strip.

   As indicated above, the part of the apparatus where the mixture is spread over the strip is arranged, as well as the members 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 defined above.

   Here again, the strip applies the film and it is covered on the layer 17 already deposited on the cylinder 4.

   To wring out the film deposited on said layer 17, we have two rollers 26, 27 exerting a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 adjustable pressure developed by pressing means, such as the center-weight 22 of the rod 1, rollers on which passes a flexible permeable and continuous strip 28 stretched by a tension roller 29.

   The roller 26 is more especially intended to ensure the dewatering while the rollers 25 and 28 play a role in the operation of releasing the layer 17 when the latter has reached the desired thickness. At this moment, the layer 17 of the cylinder 4 is released, if it is in view of obtaining pipes, or it is split along a generatrix and it is released using the slightly inclined strip circulating between rollers 25 and 28. After which this layer is shaped in any suitable manner depending on the nature of the parts to be obtained. If necessary, the squeezing pressure of rollers 25 and 26 can be temporarily removed upon removal of layer 17 and re-established immediately upon arrival of the new layer.

   Whatever the embodiment adopted, the machine is advantageously completed by providing the tank 1 with an overflow 30 discharging into the tank 13 and with a pump 31 capable of taking up in this tank the materials which have been collected. deposit there and return them, through the pipe 32, to the mixing machine, or through the pipe 33, directly into the tank 1.

   As a result, and whatever the embodiment adopted, plates, pipes, etc., were established in agglomerates composed of fibrous and binding substances by means having many advantages over processes and machines. of the type already in existence, in particular: - that of making it possible to simplify the installations and machines, and of requiring only a significant hand motive force, in particular due to the fact that the rotary sieve of the usual maohines is eliminated, the band forming at both sieve and transport felt;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 - that of leading to obtaining a fibrous product in which the fibers do not have a privileged orientation, this thanks to the fact that, on the one hand, the filter strip has no orientation action on fibers in the mixing tank, as happens in rotary sieve machines and, on the other hand, the oouohe is formed directly on this conveyor belt or belt from which it follows that the finished products have the same resistance in all senses; that is to say both in the transverse direction and in the longitudinal direction;

   - and that of allowing, by the possibility of using various types of bands (felts or textile bands, wire cloths, etc.) to obtain various types of fibrous products, the oontexture of which may indeed vary with that of the bandaged.

   As goes without saying and as it already follows from the foregoing, the invention is by no means limited to that of its modes of application nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more specially considered; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
