 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Pit furnace, more particularly usable for reheating ingots -
The present invention relates to a pit furnace, more particularly usable for reheating ingots. The essential characteristic of this furnace, which has lateral smoke outlets, lies in the fact that it is combined with a single recuperator, the smoke outlets of this furnace being linked to this recuperator using flues or pipes. lateral joining them *
In what follows, it is assumed that the pit furnace was provided with an axial burner, but it is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   it is obvious that the invention is independent of the position of the burner (s) as well as of the actual shape of the oven and of its heating mode,

In the attached schematic drawing and by way of example only: FIG. 1 is a vertical section of this embodiment of the oven, object of the invention (section C-C fig. 3).

   Figs. 2 and 3 are sections taken respectively according to A-A fig. 1 and B-B, fig * 1.

   As indicated above, the characteristic of the furnace 7, object of the invention (furnace which comprises opposite outlets of fumes at the base of two of these parallel walls 2, 3) lies in the fact that it is combined with a single recuperator 4, which can thus be placed in its alignment. This recuperator 4 (which must heat the air necessary for combustion in the furnace) is joined to the smoke outlets of the latter by fireplaces or pipes 5, 6 located along the opposite walls 2 and 3 in the furnace. which open the fumes directly, at their exit from this furnace 7. The communications between these flues or pipes 5, 6 can be made by one or more openings located at any points of the lower parts of the walls 2 and 3 of the furnace 7.

   These flues or pipes 5, 6 are extended, preferably remaining rectilinear and open directly into a recuperator 4, made of refractory pottery, located behind the wall 1 of the oven 7, on the upper parts of the two opposite side walls 8 and 9 of this recuperator 4.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The communications between this recuperator 4 and the flues 5 ′ 6 can be made by one or more openings made at any points on the upper parts of the walls 8 and 9.

   This recuperator can be, or attached to the wall 1 of the furnace 7, as shown, or be more or less distant therefrom.

   The fumes used to heat the air are released from the upper part of the recuperator 4.

   In the example shown, it was assumed that the arrival of the fuel (s) and the hot air coming from the recuperator 4 was effected by means of an axial burner 0 located in the upper half of the wall 1 of this furnace 7, the smoke evacuations being provided at any points on the lower parts of the walls 2 and 3; the ingots to be placed in this oven 7 along the latter walls 2 and 3.

   It will be noted that the oven 7 can have a rectangular or square shape. The single axial burner can be replaced by several burners arranged in the same horizontal plane, for example.
The smoke outlets can extend all along the walls 2 and 3 of the oven 7, or quite simply, be located at a point on these walls still located at the lower part of the latter.

   It will also be noted that the invention applies to any other furnace in which the admission of the combustible mixture is effected by burners arranged differently from that described above, the invention being

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 moreover independent of the means for introducing the hot gases into the oven 7.

     @
The production means described above with reference to the appended drawing have been given by way of example only and vary according to the construction of the furnace with which they are combined *
