 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Electrical splice for rails.

   In electric traction networks, efforts are made to obtain the best electrical conductivity of the rails in order to pass the major part of the traction current through them and to limit the value of current dispersions.

   For this, it is necessary to electrically connect the various rail bars to each other by means of a flexible connection.

   This has hitherto been provided by means of adhesion type connections or by means of copper connections welded to the rails.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The present invention relates to an electrical splice for rails composed of two pieces of ferrous material, preferably soft iron, in which are fixed, by crimping under high pressure, the ends of one or more conductors made of material. non-ferrous, for example copper, such that these ends protrude from the two aforementioned pieces. These are then welded to the rails by autogenous welding, the two ends of the copper conductors themselves being incorporated by fusion in the bead of the weld. A direct metallic continuous connection is thus obtained between the rail bars by means of a flexible connection which is very easy to make and install.

   Indeed, the weld performed with an iron electrode between parts of the same metal is compact, homogeneous, extremely strong and, moreover, very economical.,
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing.

   Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the electrical fishplate established in accordance with the invention, seen from the side and from above.

   FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 represent the same fishplate placed on the rails.

   The electrical splice consists of two short, very flexible copper cable pieces 1 and 2 and by two end pieces 3 and 4 obtained by pulling two rings of a soft iron pipe and pressing them strongly around the copper cables. . In addition to what is strictly necessary for fixing the copper cables, these end pieces have an appendage that allows to obtain a section of the

 solder such that the electrical conductivity corresponds to that of the two copper cables mounted in parallel.

   At the top of the end pieces 3 and 4, the cables 1 and 2 protrude slightly and it is also possible to incorporate them by fusion in the weld bead executed with an iron electrode on the two consecutive rails 5 and 6.

   The embodiment described above may naturally undergo multiple variants while always conforming to the general idea which is at the origin of this invention and as it is claimed below.

   Thus, for example, we can modify the number of flexible cables mounted in parallel, as well as the metal which composes them. The two end pieces could also be obtained by means of two iron plates folded over and pressed around the copper cables, or by small blocks also of iron and suitably machined.
