<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Flush valve mainly for water closets
Many different types of flush valves of the kind that can be connected directly to a water line are already in use. However, in valves of the kind described, the flushing period can vary greatly with variations in the water pressure of the pipe, thereby prolonging or shortening the flushing period, or defective regulators. can cause either a continuous hunt or no hunt at all, or in addition the @

Flush valves can operate very loudly.
The object of the present invention is the construction of a flush valve having none of the above-mentioned shortcomings. The object of the present invention is a valve, mainly for water closets, which can be connected directly to a water pipe and which is provided with a main valve and a front valve, the front valve being able to be opened by means of a handle before opening the main valve which closes automatically after the flushing operation, characterized in that the front valve is provided with a blocking member to block this valve in its open position, and regulators to release this valve when the main valve has opened sufficiently.
In the attached drawing, which shows an embodiment of the invention:
Fig; 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of a flush valve taken along the axis of the valve, and FIG. 2 is an enlarged sectional elevation of the main valve and the front valve cooperating therewith.
The casing 1 of the flush valve is cast in metal and has a firmness such that the valves and the handle assume a substantially horizontal position. By the seat of the valve 2, the chamber of the valve is divided so that the front part forms a cylindrical compartment or casing 3, 3a enclosing the main valve, the rear part forming the water chamber. The upper part of the carcass is provided with a water introduction sleeve 5 provided with a screw thread for connecting the water pipe, and with a valve @

stopper constructed in the ordinary way.
The casing of the valve 3 is closed by a screw-thread cover 6, screwed to the casing, and provided with packing 6a. To the flange 4a placed on one side of the water chamber is rigidly fixed, by means of the nut 7, the handle 8, and the flushing pipe 9 is connected using the 'nut 10 at the bottom of this chamber.
The main valve is provided with an annular element 11 carrying a groove capable of receiving the packing 12 intended to close the opening 2a of the valve, and a rear part similar to a piston 13 forming the chamber 13a which contains the valve. before. The main valve divides the valve compartment 3 into two parts so as to form the front part 3a which directly communicates with the water introduction pipe 5, and the rear part 3 which communicates with the front part via via a leakage groove 14 and a leakage orifice 14a.
The rear part 13 similar to a piston of the main valve adapts to the casing of the valve 3, by means of a seal 5 with stuffing 15 provided with threads, and of an elastic annular packing.
The resilient annular element 11 of the main valve forms an orifice of significant size 17, provided with a screw thread, which can receive the sleeve of the carcass 18 of the front valve. The outer end of the sleeve 18 carries a tubular and tapered pipe portion 18a, a flange 19 to hold the packing 12 of the main valve in place, and a sound deadening flange 20 placed in front of the flange. 19, capable of spraying the water jet, and provided for this purpose with orifices 21 or corresponding openings.
The port 22 of the casing sleeve 18 is @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
smaller, but widens approximately in its middle to form the proper envelope of the valve, and on the seat 23a thus formed of the front valve, is placed the valve stuffing 24.
The front valve consists of a cylindrical part 25 and a cylindrical central portion 25a, the extreme end of this central portion carrying a stop pin 26b provided with a shoulder 26 and a stud 26a.
The spiral spring 27 functions as a closing member of the front valve, the adjusting nut 28 screwed to the mouth of the valve casing 23 functioning as a support for this spring and also as a guide member for the valve. valve 25. The front valve carries a rod 29 carrying an elastic element or spiral spring 30 forming an extension of the rod. The carcass sleeve 18 of the front valve is provided with ports 31 which form a passage for water from compartment 3 of the valve to ports 22 and from there into compartment 4.
The locking sleeve 22 functions as an operating element of the locking apparatus provided for the front valve. The inner end of the locking sleeve is provided with a locking member 32a which grips the shoulder of the stop pin 26-26b, and a stop flange 32b extending outwardly. to fix the sleeve, by means of the nut 33, to the sleeve of the carcass 18 of the front valve. The connection thus obtained has such mobility that the locking sleeve 32 can move downwards and, through the element 32a, lock the front valve 25 in its open position. In order to ensure the operation of the locking sleeve 32, a flange-like weight 34 is attached to its outer end.
The locking sleeve release member
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
consists of an adjusting screw 35 arranged in the cover or cover plate 6 of the valve casing,
The release members of the front valve and therefore the flushing actuators are joined in a known manner to the handle, in which the connecting flange 4a carries a sleeve and a handle 8 which is supported by the spiral spring 37 and fixed rigidly, by means of the nut 7, to the flange 4a. To the handle 8 is fixed, by means of a stopper 38, a pressure bar 39 united by a joint riveted to a pressure head 40 which sort in contact with the elastic bar 30 when the handle is pushed. . The stuffing box 41 serves as a guide for the pressure bar 39.
, Below the valve compartment 3a is placed a small air chamber 42 which can receive air from the outside through the orifices 43, this air passing from this location through the orifices 44 into the compartment 4 for the purpose of avoid creating a vacuum in this compartment.
During the flushing period, the air orifice 44 is closed by a two-branch valve 45 which opens by its own weight as soon as the flow of water ceases. The introduction of residual water into the flushing hose is thus completely prevented.
The flush valve operates in the following way: by pushing the handle, for example downwards, the head 40 of the pressure bar comes into contact with the bar 30 of the front valve and opens the front valve 25 for so that water from the valve compartment 3 can escape through ports 31 and 32 into compartment 4, the locking sleeve 32 falls at the same time and causes the locking element 32a to pull the shoulder. 26 of the stop pin and locks the front valve in its open position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
In the meantime, the water pressure on the rear compartment 3 of the main valve drops, while the water pressure on the front compartment opens the main valve 11-13 and the flushing begins. As the flush progresses, the main valve opens more fully until the locking sleeve 32 contacts the adjusting screw 35 which raises the locking sleeve to its central position and separates. the locking element 32 of the shoulder 26 of the stop pin, the spiral spring 27 forcing the front valve to close and thus ending the flushing through the orifices 31, 32.
Subsequently, the rear compartment of the valve casing 3 fills with water which flows through ports 14, 14a and the main valve 11-13 closes. By means of the adjusting screw 35 the degree to which the main valve can open is set and thus the duration of the flushing period can be adjusted as desired under the action of the effective pressure of the water, to ensure a satisfactory hunt.
The flush valve described above, chosen to represent the invention, is only one embodiment of it, but it is understood that modifications in the construction can be made to it within the scope and spirit of the invention. invention. For example, the front valve and its locking members can be modified in many different ways. Previously known methods, well known to those skilled in the art of manufacturing flush valves, can be applied.
