 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Improvements to devices for the flow of water in w. vs. and the like with overflow.

   This invention relates to devices fitted to flushing toilets, more particularly for toilets, and in which the valve formed by a hollow body in an elastic material is operated either directly or by the intermediary of a hinge joint. so as to be temporarily lifted from its seat.

   More particularly still, the improvements according to the invention relate to such devices of the so-called built-in overflow type.

   This type of device, known for about fifteen years, is characterized in that the seat of said valve is extended laterally so as to form a support for the outlet tube.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 part of the overflow. the latter having for other; function of forming the upright of an arm cooperating with the guide element of the rigid rod, the lower end of which is arranged, respectively fixed, in said hollow valve and the other end of which is arranged as an operating member.

   It has also been proposed for many years to open the overflow pipe either directly into the toilet receptacle by passing through the bottom of the water tray, or into a side chamber directly related to the extending outlet. the seat of said valve. These solutions have the advantage of effectively producing overflow devices incorporated in the device as it is, which can be fixed on the starting hole made in the bottom of the water tank by a clamping nut and without modification. neither the tray nor the container of w. vs. On the other hand, both of these two already old solutions have drawbacks and advantages.

   In fact, in the first case, the drawback is found in the fact of having to provide, in the bottom of the water tank, two very close holes or an enlarged hole with a complex profile, respectively to make it possible to engage, d '' on the one hand, the threaded tubular element extending downwards the seat of the valve and, on the other hand, to allow the engagement of the lower end of the overflow pipe or at least to form an extension of the latter to ensure the normal flow of overflow water.

   On the other hand, it has been admitted, for many years, that this first solution was favorable for reducing to the strict minimum the distance separating the level of the valve seat from the bottom of the water tank, which is favorable in order not to let stagnate, in said water tank, only a strictly minimal quantity of water after emptying.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   As for the second support proposed, it has the advantage of truly producing a device with an incorporated overflow pipe by requiring that, in the bottom of the water tank, only one circular hole be provided for the engagement of the water tank. 'tabular element extending the seat of the valve and intended to receive the tightening and fixing nut of the device. On the other hand, this solution is criticized for the implementation of a hollow part which is relatively very complex and involved; as for obligatorily a greater height of the valve seat above the bottom of the tank.

     The present invention relates to a third solution which, very rationally, retains all the advantages of the two old solutions mentioned above while systematically eliminating their drawbacks.

   According to this third solution, the device is combined, in a way, with a particular arrangement of the bottom of the water tank so as to obtain, at the same time that, on the one hand, the overflow water is evacuated under the valve resting on its seat while, on the other hand, and despite this characteristic, the seat of said valve is immobilized at a minimum distance from the bottom of said water tank.

   The particular arrangement of the bottom of the water tank consists in providing therein a hollow or a depression capable of forming a direct communication between the foot of the overflow tube and the tubular element extending downwards the seat of the valve, this combination being completed by a large window provided in the wall of said tubular member, thus completing the flow passage of overflow water.
It is true that this new solution involves giving a part of the bottom of the water tank a particular shape but it will be observed that this shape is such that, not only does it not weaken the said bottom in any way but that, by its disposition. - tion itself, it can be carried out so as to form an element

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 reinforcement ment.

   On the other hand, this new solution also involves, in the bottom of the water tank, a single circular opening, the device being put in place and fixed in the traditional way by a single clamping nut.

   Thus, we have successfully combined all the advantages of the two old solutions by systematically eliminating the drawbacks since the overflow pipe is planted in a simple placed of good resistance to which the seat of the valve and the externally threaded pipe are integral. extends it down.

  The window or side light passes through said thread without any inconvenience either for the proper functioning of the tightening nut, or for the flow of overflow water.

   Preferably, with a view to facilitating this flow, by reducing to a minimum the pressure drops and any annoyances, the side faces delimiting said window or light will preferably be arranged at an angle, ie. <divergent two by two in expansion of the interior of the device.

   It goes without saying that this new design can be implemented in infinitely variable forms and that it can, in particular, be applied in combination with any type of seat and valve, with any operating mechanism thereof, i.e. directly, or through the intermediary of fittings, knobs, handles, etc ..., all things well known in the art of manufacturing and applications of such toilet flushing devices

   In fact, devices have been known for many years in which the hollow valve is directly operated by a rigid rod, the upper end of which is furnished with a traction button; such devices are also known in which the rod, respectively said terminal button, cooperate with an articulated linkage opening outside the water tank and ending in an operating member capable of being actuated, by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 push or pull, with hands, pedals, etc ...

   An operating device has also been known for many years, formed by the cooperation of an axial tie and two telescopic tubes, said axial rod being able to slide in the inner tube and the latter, sliding in the outer tube, i can drive said axial rod by hooked from the head which terminates the upper end.

   All these maneuvering means are moreover independent of the invention and have no influence both on the operation and on the advantages of the device.

   By way of example, the characteristics of the invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 shows, in cross section, a flow device with incorporated overflow according to the invention ; Figure 2 is a side view in the direction of arrow F2 of Figure 1 with the adjacent part of the water pan removed for clarity; FIG. 3 represents a section along the line III-III of FIG. 1; FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 summarize the application of the characteristics of the invention with operating devices known per se.

   In the execution of Figures 1 to 3, the device is constituted, in this case, by a seat 1 arranged so as to form the seat 1 of a hollow elastic valve 3 known per se, Said seat is inferiorly extended, in the known manner, by an externally threaded collar 4 ′ onto which the tightening nut 5 is screwed. As otherwise known, the seat 1 has, offset with respect to the aforesaid valve seat 2, a circular hole 6 surmounted overflow tube
7.

   In order to increase the stability of the attachment of said overflow tube, said hole 6 is extended by a ferrule .2 from the workshop with said seat 1 or subsequently attached and therein.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 fixed in the correct position.

   On the overflow tube 7 is fixed a horizontal arm 9 forming a bracket, the free end 10 of which is arranged so as to be able to positively guide the rod 11, the lower end of which is secured to the valve 3 while the upper end is terminated by a maneuver button 12.

   The operation of the valve 3 can be done either by direct traction on the rod Il $ as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 4, or by means of a rocker 13 and a rod 14 leading to the traction button 12 ', as shown schematically in Figure 15 ,. or again by means of two telescopic tubes 15-16, the latter, inside, hooking the head 17 terminating the upper free end of the operating rod! 1, all these operating positive d @@ being archi-known and not forming part of the invention.

   One of the essential characteristics of the invention consists in providing, in the collar 4, at least one light or side window 18 such that, when the device is fixed in its correct position, it remains largely clear. This light will generally be elongated rectangular in shape, oriented horizontally when the device is in place. Also preferably, the free passage section of this lumen will be at least equal to the internal section of the overflow tube.

   According to another characteristic of the invention, this side window 18 is combined with a suitable hollow 19 made in the adjacent part of the sanitary appliance or water tank shown schematically at 20 so as to force a direct connection between the orifice 6, i.e. also the overflow tube 7, on the one hand, and said collar 4, on the other hand, with a view to allowing the overflow to flow through said collar 4 under the valve 3 resting freely on its seat 2.

   It goes without saying that seals 21-22 will be

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 interposed between the adjacent part of the bottom of the water tank 20 and the seat 1, on the one hand, and the clamping nut 5, on the other hand.

   It is obvious that at the location of the hollow 19 we can provide any shape or extra thickness or other arrangement whatsoever in order to be able to arrange this hollow without any prejudice to the good resistance or the good behavior of the device in use. .

   The shape and dimensions of the seat could also be modified very appreciably as a function of the particular shape and dimensions of the adjacent parts of the sanitary appliance in order to be able to produce, in the most rational way, the characteristic hollow part serving as direct passage. between the overflow tube and the lower end collar of the appliance.

   The invention relates both to any device comprising at least one such side window in the lower collar with a view to creating the aforesaid direct passage; the combination of such an appliance with any suitable sanitary appliance as well as the sanitary appliances per se to the extent that they have expressly been profiled with a view to achieving this characteristic direct relationship.
