   Conformément à   l'invention.,   on procède pour l'obtention de   matiè-   res fibreuses à fibres aussi longues que possible à partir de peau et déchets de peau et autre matière animale de la manière que l'on amène les morceaux de peau à réduire par transport continu sur et au-dessus   d'une   surface de   tra-   vail qui est perforée à la   manière   d'un peigne et dans les entredents de   la-   quelle les dents   d'éléments   de travail en forme de peigne s'engagent en pro- duisant un peignage et les morceaux de peau fixement maintenus de ce fait sur la surface de travail passent à travers les dents des peignes sous l'ac- tion des éléments de travail déplacés les uns par rapport aux autres;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Le dispositif suivant les   fig.l   à 4 constitué par un dispositif d'aménagé réalisé sous forme de bande transporteuse 1 pour la matière à trai- ter selon   11 invention,  telle que morceaux de peau et autres analogues, qui sont amenés dans la zone de coopération du cylindre 2 avec la surface de   tra-   vail   fixe 3.  Ainsi que cela ressort notamment de la fige 2, cette surface de travail 3 est composée de lames individuelles 4, qui forment une grille de peignage;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 sont   .montes   et maintenus de façon interchangeable sur le arbre 14;

  METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF FIBROUS MATERIAL FROM FRESH ANIMAL SKIN MATERIAL, ESPECIALLY FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL HOSES.

   The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of fibrous material from animal material which is not previously chemically treated for reduction, in particular for the manufacture of artificial casings.

   In accordance with the invention, the procedure for obtaining fibrous materials with fibers as long as possible from skin and skin waste and other animal material is carried out in such a way as to cause the pieces of skin to be reduced. by continuous transport on and over a work surface which is perforated in the manner of a comb and into the cracks of which the teeth of the comb-shaped working elements engage pro - reducing combing and the pieces of skin fixed thereby on the working surface pass through the teeth of the combs under the action of the working elements moved relative to each other;

   they are thus disintegrated and subdivided, then evacuated.

   As the raw material for the manufacture of artificial casings, skins, parts of skins, light leathers and the like are used, as is known, which require a thorough reduction made with care to obtain fibrous masses which satisfy the requirements. conditions for further processing to obtain tube-shaped bodies by delivery from dies and subsequently to the conditions for making artificial casings, artificial skins and other finished shaped bodies,
In principle there are two means for the reduction of fibers, namely
1) The pieces of skin are first subjected to chemical actions and then they are transformed into a firm slurry with the help of reducing devices, such as grinders,

   clawed or striped cylinders.

   2) The pieces of skin are reduced without chemical action, by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 example swelling, in the fine state by direct mechanical means, to cause the material obtained with or without water to pass through a partial working phase in a mass as homogeneous as possible.

   But the latter course of action has so far not been followed successfully. With the usual reducing devices, until now, it is in fact not possible to transform skin material which has not previously been treated chemically, and therefore fresh, into an effectively homogeneous fibrous slurry while preserving fibers to a great extent. The fresh skin waste is sticky and irregular, so that due to the nature of the mechanical attack, considerable parts of the material are removed from the reduction and the division effected by working bodies placed very close from each other leads to fiber splitting.

   Tools with teeth, for example toothed cylinders moved against each other, and which are in motion in a cylindrical casing provided with toothed segments on its inner surface, are not gripped and give rise to blockages due to the sticky nature and flexibility of the fresh skin, or, in the event that the teeth strike very tightly against each other, the fibers are torn between their flanks. Even with spiked cylinders which work against an edge over which pieces of fresh skin are fed, the skin fits between the spikes, or is partially driven by them without being reduced.

   On the other hand, it has been observed that when the pieces of skin are disintegrated on a work surface, which is subdivided into a comb, using elements engaging in the manner of a. comb in the gaps of the working surface keeping the pieces of skin fixed in a way analogous to the working mode of two forks engaging one in the other one obtains a very effective subdivision and defibration into separate fibers .

  This work can be adapted to a very large extent to the nature of the material by varying the defibration speed and the working speed of the combing body.

   An advantageous device for carrying out the method described consists in principle in that a section of the feed surface is crossed by a combing cylinder in the form of a plane-comb grid or curved in any way, fixed or moving, of which the tooth discs are formed on the periphery in the form of radial or tangentially inclined teeth. The number of revolutions of the working cylinder may be equal to or different from that of the comb cylinder; likewise, the direction of rotation may be the same or the opposite.

   According to another development of the device according to the invention, teeth, points or driving members provided on the work surface can be bent in the direction of rotation and in the opposite direction; the same is true, according to another development of the invention, of the combing cylinder.

   In a particular embodiment of the invention, the section of the work surface which cooperates with the combing cylinder is formed by separate parallel blades, arranged at distances from each other and between which are placed blades. 'recessed spacing correspondingly to the engagement of the combing rolls. The tooth discs of the combing rolls are correspondingly formed by toothed working blades and spacer discs of smaller diameter.

   According to an embodiment of the device according to the invention, several combing cylinders cooperating with a working cylinder are provided at different distances from the working surface, so that the distance decreases in the direction of the work. The pieces of skin brought to the working surface, for example to a working cylinder, by a conveyor belt and, where appropriate, by driving members or driving rollers, can be held on the surface of the machine. working under increasing pressing pressure by means of a tangential plate

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 elastic bends until they are gripped by the outlined elements of the work surface.

   It is advantageously possible to make the curved elements)) such as the guide cylinder and the feed device, perform a lateral reciprocating movement so that the entire working width is captured during the combing of defibration.

   Embodiments of a device according to the invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.

   Fig. 1 is a partial cross section of a device in the region of the working surface.

   Fig. 2 is a partial perspective view of the fixed work surface composed of blades.

   Fig3 is a schematic perspective view of the combing cylinder cooperating with the work surface.

   Fig. 4 is a plan of the combing cylinder according to FIG. 3.

   Fig 5 is a schematic elevation of another embodiment using three combing cylinders.

   Fig. 6 is a plan corresponding to FIG. 5 seen in the direction of the arrow.

   The device according to Figs. 1 to 4 consisting of an arrangement device made in the form of a conveyor belt 1 for the material to be treated according to the invention, such as pieces of skin and the like, which are brought into the zone of. cooperation of the cylinder 2 with the fixed working surface 3. As emerges in particular from the pin 2, this working surface 3 is composed of individual blades 4, which form a combing grid;

   consequently, these blades are arranged spaced apart from each other with intermediate pieces 6 placed between them and recessed according to a curve corresponding to the periphery of the combing cylinder 5, As shown in particular in FIGS. 3 and 4, the combing cylinder is formed by individual discs of teeth 7 which are clamped against each other on a shaft 8 and which bear on their periphery tips, teeth, hooks or the like. The spacing disks 9, corresponding to the spacings of the blades of the working surface are arranged between the disks 7.

   As indicated above, when the material to be worked reaches the region of the working surface 3, it is held fixedly there by the combing grid formed by the blades 4 and it is traversed by the teeth of the combing cylinder 5 which paint it with the teeth of the combing grid ;, so that, for example, the pieces of skin are broken up by combing in the region of the working surface 3, so that the defibrated material can be removed at the point where it exits the work surface.

   The rotational speeds at which the combing rolls pass through the screens can be chosen within the broadest limits.

  At higher revs it makes sense to cool work surfaces with sprayed water.

   In the device according to FIGS. 5 and 6, a rotating work cylinder 10 is provided in place of a fixed work surface. This cylinder is also formed by individual blades 11 established in the form of annular discs, which are kept at a distance from each other by spacer discs 12.

   Teeth 13 are arranged on the outer peripheral surface of the blades 11 in such a way that in each case a circular disc comprising teeth extending in the direction of rotation alternates with another blade-shaped blade. circular disc comprising teeth 13 extending in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation. Circular discs

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 are .mounted and maintained interchangeably on the shaft 14;

   The described working roll cooperates with three combing discs 15, 16 and 17 which are each time at a different distance from the working roll and this in such a way that the distance between the roll 15 and the working roll is maximum. and that that of cylinder 17 is minimum. The teeth 18 of the combing rolls 15 and 17 are preferably curved in the direction of rotation.

   The skin mass to be worked is applied in small pieces of skin to the cylinder by means of the elastic sheet 19 and is thus supplied to the combing cylinders. By arranging the blades in such a way that the teeth of one are curved in the direction of rotation and those of the next blade in the axial direction are curved in the opposite direction of rotation, the skin material is both transported and also kept fixed, the elastic pressing surface aiding further uniform conveying and above all ensuring smooth entry into the defibration rollers.

   The defibrating cylinders 15 to 17 rotate faster than the working cylinder and are arranged at a distance from the latter decreasing in the direction of its rotation, so that the depth of attack of their teeth increases up to so that they are caught with the blades of the work cylinder and pass through the work surface.

  The teeth of the combing rolls according to the invention are formed in such a way that tearing, sawing or severing itself cannot occur, and this is because they are free from sharp edges and which, where appropriate, have the shape of curved claws decreasing towards the point to present a practically round cross section.

  By the arrangement of several combing cylinders on the periphery of the decreasing distance working cylinder, the pieces of skin are gradually broken up, that is to say, combing and complete separation of the fibers is obtained.

   The cylinders which do not paint with the working cylinder advantageously perform a reciprocating movement and this, either by reciprocating action, or by an oscillating movement avoiding combing in the form of a strip and gradually removing the fibers until the combing cylinders make a fine division of the fibrous tissue.

   Of course, extremely varied modifications can be made to the various arrangements without departing from the scope of the invention; for example, it is also possible to place a reservoir above the combing cylinder, in such a way that this cylinder engages from below in the bottom of this reservoir and cooperates, approaching closely a wall of the latter or of a. edge of its bottom, with a combing cylinder arranged outside the tank rotating in the opposite direction and entering the latter.

   In this case, the material coming from above through the reservoir, preferably very small piece material, is picked up by the rapidly rotating combing cylinder and reduced by cooperation with the second combing cylinder. slowly rotating, working as an exhaust cylinder. The wall of the separating vessel, which engages between these two cylinders, allows separation and discharge of the reduced material. Combs also guided in these cylinders up to the spacer discs or comb-shaped pullers formed in another way serve for the removal of the material received by the combing cylinders or, as in the latter case, by special evacuation combing cylinders.

   The reduced fibrous tissue is finally mixed in suitable mixing devices to form a fibrous slurry and processed to give the desired product. However, the reduced fibrous tissue can also be introduced and dried in pressing and drying cylinders to keep it undried until it is used.

   The process according to the invention can be carried out both by adding liquid, for example water, and also without the particular addition of water at a corresponding speed of the rolls.
