<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

VALVE FOR! LIQUID,, MAINLY, BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY FOR BENZINE,
The present invention relates to a valve for liquid, mainly, but: not exclusively for benzine.
When filling automobile tanks, it happens very frequently, not to say every time, that the benzine overflows from the tank, because it is very difficult to control the degree of filling, especially since the tank usually contains already a certain quantity of benzine In addition to the loss, overflowing benzine invades the engine and, by its smell, inconveniences the occupants of the automobile.
The object of the present invention is to obviate these drawbacks.
It provides for an automatic flow switch
Preferably, this automatic switch comprises a float which moves in relation to the rise of the liquid in the reservoir to be filled.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, two embodiments of the valve according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view and Fig. 2 is a view taken from below, of a first embodiment, FIG. 3 is an elevational view, partly in section, of a second embodiment, pin 4 is a bottom view, pin 5 is a cross section of the outlet pipe of the valve, fig. 6 is a broken section of part of the release mechanism taken along a line passing through the axes of certain mobiles and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
fig. 7 is an elevational view of a detail of the trigger mechanism
In the example shown in figs. 1 and 2, the automatic flow switch is mounted on the side of a gasoline valve of known construction, comprising a valve body 1 made with a handle 1 and provided with an outlet pipe 2.
The valve is opened by means of a piston 22 by means of a hand lever 3, when the latter is moved from the position shown in solid lines, to the position shown in phantom. The lever 3 can be held in the open position of the valve by the retaining pawl 4.
The automatic flow switch comprises a float 5 which is movable in a pipe 6 fixed next to the pipe 2. The float 5 is connected by a rigid wire 7, which is guided at certain places in the tube 6, with a rocker 8 part of a trigger mechanism of the hand lever 3.
This mechanism, of which the retaining pawl 4 is a part, comprises a housing 9 screwed onto the valve body 1 and provided with a cover 10. The mechanism further comprises a motor spring 11 fixed, on the one hand, to a pillar. 12, and, on the other hand, to the bung of a shaft represented by its square 13. The spring 11 is mounted with a preliminary tension and supports a lever 14 against a stop 15 by means of a not shown snap. A part of the shaft 13 located behind the cover 10 is provided with an eccentric 16 which, in the position corresponding to that shown in solid lines of the handle 14, acts on the retaining pawl 4 by moving it away. hand lever 3.
The shaft 13 also carries a toothed wheel 17 which is part of a reduction gear train, the last mobile of which is shown at 18. This mobile comprises an escape wheel with which the lever 8 cooperates under the influence of a spring 19 via the gear train and said escape wheel 180 The lever 8, with a very small force, keeps the mainspring 11 armed, this charging having been carried out previously by moving the handle from the position shown in solid lines to the position shown in phantom, in which it abuts against a pin 20.
The valve, with its automatic switch, operates as follows:
When it is desired to fill a reservoir, the free ends of the pipe 5 and of the tube 6 are introduced into the filling opening of the reservoir.
Then, the just-mentioned actuation of the lever 14. During this actuation, the mainspring is charged with an additional amount and the cam 16 is released from in front of the pawl. retainer 4. The rocker 8, under the action of the spring 19, maintains the mechanism in this position and a coil spring 21 brings the retaining pawl 4 from the position shown in lines; solid in that shown in lines. mixteso If the hand lever 3 is then fully actuated in order to reopen the valve, it will be held, by the retaining pawl 4, in the position, shown in phantom lines, that it will have reached, and the gasoline can flow into the tank, which gradually fills. At the end of filling, the benzine lifts float 5.
The movement of the float is transmitted to the rocker 8 through the intermediary of the rigid wire 7. The latter then rotates the rocker 8 in the opposite direction to that of the needles of a clockwise (fig. 1) at the beginning. against the very weak spring 19. When the lever 8 has thus freed the escapement wheel 18, the trigger mechanism starts to move under the action of the mainspring llo. Therefore, the axis 13 rotates in the clockwise, of the body with the lever 14 and the cam 16. At the end of its travel, this cam 16 pivots the retaining pawl 4 in the anti-clockwise direction, in order to release the hand lever.
The valve then closes under the action of a closing spring which is not shown and which returns the lever 3 to the position shown in solid lines.
The reduction gear train was planned because the force that could transmit the rigid wire 7 and which comes from the push of the gasoline on the float 5 would not be sufficient to act directly on the retaining pawl 40
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In principle, the valve shown in figs 3 to 7 resembles that which has just been described. The valve body is designated by 25, the outlet pipe by 26 and the handle by 27.
The hand lever for opening the valve is here made in two parts, 28 and 29, pivoted on a common axis 30 fixed in the handle, and adjustable with respect to each other because a screw 31 taking in. part 28 can move in an oblong hole 32 of part 29 While the lever part 29 cooperates with the retaining pawl 33, the lever part 28 cooperates with a valve member 34 passing through a stuffing box 35 and acting on a rocker 36 which in turn acts against the closing spring 37 on the valve member 38 which is guided in a bore 39 of the valve body 25 The construction of the valve is known per se , but the pipe 26 is divided into two compartments, as shown in particular in FIG. 5.
The compartment 40 which communicates with the passage 41 in the valve body 25 constitutes a passage for the liquid, while the compartment 42 located inside a tube 43 constitutes a housing for a float 44 and for a rigid wire 45 attached at one end to float 44, guided at 46 and pressed at its other end against a rocker 47 forming part of a trigger mechanism described below ,, Pin 48 limits movement from float 44 to baso
The trigger mechanism includes a. 'casing 49 fixed to the pipe 26 immediately in front of the handle 27 In fig. 3, this housing is shown in its cover which can be fixed by means of screws which engage in the threaded holes 50.
The trigger mechanism again comprises a reduction gear train whose last mobile 51 comprises an escapement wheel with which the lever 47 cooperates, while the first mobile comprises a toothed sector 53 This sector is fixed on an axis. of barrel 54 provided with a flat 55 and a threaded part 56 for fixing a handle 57 (see fig. 4) The shaft 54 is surrounded by a motor spring 58, the end of which 59 always rests on the pillar 60, while the other end, indicated at 61, rests in the rest position (freeze 78) on a pillar 62 which prevents it from fully relaxing and during operation of the mechanism on a pin 63 fixed on the toothed sector 53 (figa 3).
The pillar 60 also supports a shock-absorbing spring 64, one of the ends 65 of which always rests on the pillar 62 while the other branch, indicated at 66, sometimes rests on this same pillar 62 but may be supported. move away under the action of a pin 77 fixed on the toothed sector 53 The latter has a cam profile 78 with which cooperates an angled cam lever 67, whose other end acts on a pin 68 fixed in a rod 69 and guided in a groove 70 of a fixed part.
The coil spring 81 is that which acts through the intermediary of the rod 69 on the retaining pawl 33 to which this rod is articulated at 720
The valve operates as follows:
After having introduced the pipe 26 into the filling hole of the reservoir (the pipe then extending in a vertical or approximately vertical direction) the trigger mechanism is armed. This arming is done by moving the lever 57 in the direction of clockwise (figo 3 and 7) from position I to position 11 The segment 53 integral with this lever then presses its pin 63 on the end 61 of the spring 58-, -which is thus loaded. The gear train follows this movement because the rocker 47 only moves in the other direction, stopping the mechanism in the loaded position.
During loading, the ascending part 73 has passed under the tip 74 of the lever 67 to allow the spring 71 to push the rod 69 to the right or rather upwards, in order to put the retaining pawl in its active position. The hand lever 28, 29 is then actuated which, by means of the members 34, 36 puts the valve member 38 in the open position, that is to say away from the seat 75. such movement, the shoulder 76 of the lever part 29 has slipped on the pawl 33 and, at the end of the stroke, this pawl 33 comes to rest against the shoulder 76, retaining the valve in the open position o The liquid fills the tank and when this filling approaches its end, the float 44, under the action of the thrust of the liquid, moves upwards.
This movement is transmitted by the rigid wire 45 to the rocker 47 which then releases the reduction gear train. Acting
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on the pin 63, the spring 58 can thus cause the rotation of the segment 53 so that the ascending part 73 of the cam profile 66 acts on the point 74 of the lever 67. The latter acts against the spring 71 and by means of the members 68, 69 and 72 on the retaining pawl 33 which it makes inactive. The closing spring 37 can therefore return the valve members to the closed position. The trigger mechanism continues this movement for a few moments. But before the end 61 abuts against the pillar 62, the pin 77 comes to rest on the branch 66 of the damping spring 64 which thus slows down the rotary movement of the rotating parts of the mechanism.
These relatively delicate members are therefore not stopped suddenly, as would be the case if a damping spring 64 had not been provided since then the branch 61 would suddenly come to rest against the pillar. 620
