Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

PROCEDE DE PREPARATION DE TEINTURES ET D"IMPRESSIONS SOLIDES AUX:
PLASTIFIANTS.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 lavables peuvent aussi, en majeure partie, garder leur caractère propres, quand on applique l'enduit ou l'imprégnation avec une quantité de la subs- tance protectrice   qui;

402 cm3 d'eau. Ensuite,on ajoute

  EXEMPLE 4 :
On mélange, en agitant :
 EMI4.2

PROCESS FOR PREPARING SOLID DYES AND PRINTS WITH:
PLASTICIZERS.

The Applicant has found that, if the azo dyes defined below were applied by dyeing or printing, to textile materials based on plant or animal fibers, including regenerated cellulose, on paper or on of paper fabrics, they could be coated or impregnated with products of polymerization or copolymerization of vinyl compounds accompanied by plasticizers without having to fear that the dyes would not resist rubbing or that the prints would disgorge.

The azo dyes applied according to the present invention are the water-insoluble azo dyes which are obtained by coupling of the amine diazo compounds corresponding to formula 1 of the accompanying drawing, (in which the group -CO-NH-R1 is found in the meta or para position, with respect to the amino group, while R1 represents hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl aryl or hydro-aromatic radical, the benzene radical "a" being able, where appropriate, to bear substituents , for example

 halogen atoms) with the arylamides of 2-hydroy-naphthalene-3-carbo-xyl., 2-hydroxy-anthracene-3-carbohydrate 2-hydrozy-carbazol-3-carboxylic, 3-hydroxy-dibenzo- furan-2-carboxylic,

3-hydroxy-dibanzo-thiophene-2-carboxylic or benzomcarbazol 3a Yaydro, pmsarbocyliquee the components being chosen so as to be free from groups conferring the solubility in 1-water, such as the sulfonic or carboxylic groups.

It is known that polyvinyl compounds are suitable for the preparation of coatings or impregnations on fabrics or on paper. In this way, materials are obtained which are very resistant to water and possess a wide range of applications. Textiles can, for example in the preparation of artificial leather or oilcloth, preferably serve as a carrier for the polymerization product which is plasticized and which is to be applied. However, fabrics such as tablecloths and aprons

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 washable materials can also, for the most part, keep their character clean, when the coating or impregnation with a quantity of the protective substance is applied;

, while being sufficient is as small as possible
In the dyeing and printing of pieces of fabric or paper, it is of essential importance, in order for the goods to be usable, that the dyes used are indifferent to the plasticizers. lying in the mass.

Since these plasticizers, such as dibutyl phthalate or di-octyl phthalate, are, as is known, good solvents for a number of organic compounds and, in particular, for many dyes, they can give rise to to very unfavorable phenomena, in fact, these dyes sensitive to the action of solvents migrate from the support into the plasticizer, reaching the surface of the protective layer formed by the polymerization product so that it ci becomes dyed and loose of color by rubbing In this case, the printed merchandise has the disadvantage of not being sufficiently fast to rubbing and the contours of the printed design are strongly blurred,

a phenomenon which is also caused by the dissolving action of the plasticizer and which manifests itself particularly in the direction in which the thermoplastic mass has been applied.

The number of organic dyes which, especially in printing, have been shown to be sufficiently insensitive to the action of plasticizers is relatively limited. Thus, especially in the series of azo dyes which are widely applied in industry and which are produced in the manner of ice-cream colors, there is a noticeable dearth of products giving suitable dyes and prints. to be obtained under excellent conditions while providing satisfactory resistance to the coatings of polymerization products containing plasticizers.

In view, however, of the great importance that these dyes have for dyeing and textile printing, on account of the limpid and nourished shades which they provide as well as their excellent fastnesses, a great technical progress is brought by the present process, in this respect. sense that it makes it possible to produce, by the application of a particular group of colors to ice, dyes and prints in all shades, coated or impregnated with polyvinyl compounds and which withstand the temperature of gelatinization required for these polyvinyl compounds and the action of coatings containing such compounds.

The dyes can be prepared by the known method for ice colors or by padding with pigment dyes. The impressions are also obtained according to the same methods.

As suitable textile materials, there may be mentioned, for example, jute, canvas, cotton, viscose, silk as well as fabrics or sheets of wool and fibranne; as polyvinyl compounds, all those in which plasticizers can be incorporated such as polyvinyl chloride or acetate, polyvinyl ethers, polyacrylic and polymethacrylic esters, polyacrylic nitrile and the corresponding copolymerization products are taken into account. .

The pastes of the polyvinyl compounds containing plasticizers are scraper applied according to one of the known methods and then subjected to deep gelatinization at elevated temperatures. However, the coating can also be formed by hot application of plastic sheets and pressure on the textiles.

    EXAMPLE 1
100 g of a cooked cotton cloth are treated for 45 minutes in 2 liters of stomping bath, centrifuged and introduced in the wet state into the developing bath where it is dyed for. 30 minutes to 20. Then we rinse and soap, first at 60 and, at the end, at a temperature

close to that of boiling and dried. a) Foot bath:

 EMI3.1
 4 g of 1- (2'o3'-hydroxy-naphthoylamino-) 2o5-dimethoxy-4-chlorobenzene are dissolved with
 EMI3.2
8 cm3 of alcohol9 196 cm3 of sodium hydroxide solution 6 cm3 of 30% formalin and 4 cm3 of hot water, after which we supplement with water at 35 C, 10 cm3 of oil for Turkish red 50% and 20 cm3 of caustic soda lye at 38 Bé, at 2 liters b) Development bath Diazotized, while cooling
 EMI3.3
 495 g of 1 amino methyl benzene-5-carbonyhaminobenzene in
10 cm3 crystallizable acetic acid, 4.2 cm3 hydrochloric acid at 20 Bé and
1.5 g of sodium nitrite dissolved in water.

Then, with the addition of cold water, 20 g of sodium acetate and 20 g of sodium chloride, to
2 liters.

On the fabric now dyed red tending to yellow, a thin layer is applied, using a doctor blade ;, a thin layer composed of a homogenized mixture of 3 parts by weight of polyvinyl chloride and 2 parts by weight of di-octyl phthalate, the gelatinization of the protective layer being carried out in a few minutes by passing through a heating channel at 170 C.

The dyeing of the fabric thus prepared exhibits, even after prolonged storage, perfect abrasion fastness and, at the same time, good resistance to light. Instead of polyvinyl chloride, a copolymerization product of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate is incorporated into the mass to be applied, to give a product having the same properties.

  EXAMPLE 2
A fabric to be printed is padded at the boiling temperature.

Then we dry and print, rinse, soap at the boil and rinse again. a) Footing solution:
 EMI3.4
benzene 15 g of 12093 hydroxynaphthoylamino) 2-methoxy- 'benzene are dissolved with
20 cm3 of 50% Turkish Red oil and
20 cm3 of caustic soda lye at 38 Bé in boiling water and one completes, with water, to 1 liter b) Printing paste:

We dissolve
1/20 molecule or 15.4 g of 1-amino-2- diazonium chloride
 EMI3.5
 chl.orobenzene 5mcarbonylml'-amino-2ethylbenzene with

60 cm3 of 50% acetic acid and
402 cm3 of water. Then we add
20 g of sodium acetate and the whole is introduced, while stirring, into
500 g of starch-tragacanth thickener.

The product thus obtained, printed in a scarlet tone, was provided, as shown in Example 1, with a plasticized, waterproof polyvinyl chloride coating. The good rubbing fastness of the fabric remains unchanged, even after a prolonged period of time, and the printed design does not bleed into the white background.

A similar effect is obtained by replacing the polyvinyl chloride, in the mass intended for the coating, with a copolymerization product of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate.

  EXAMPLE 3:
An impression is prepared, according to one of the usual methods, with the bluish-red pigment dye which is obtained by coupling the compound
 EMI4.1
1-amino-2-methoxybenzene-5-carbonylamino-benzene diazo with 2'.3'-hydroxy-naphthoylamino-benzene according to German Patent No. 4070536, by applying, for this purpose, to the tissue, by example, an emulsion containing polyvinyl acetate and a water-soluble, curable, urea formaldehyde condensation product. Then, according to the indications of Example 1, a protective waterproof layer is applied.
The printed design thus obtained resists friction well, the coloring agent not going beyond the contours.

  EXAMPLE 4:
Mix, stirring:
 EMI4.2
18 parts by weight of 1- (2 '& 3'-hydroxy-naphthoylamino-) 2.4-dimethoxy-5-chlorobenz ene and 45 parts by weight of an aqueous paste of the diazo-amino compound obtained by reaction of 1-amino-2 ethoxybenzene-5-earbonylamino-benzene with methyltaurine, which corresponds to 12.1 parts by weight of the amino compound having the molecular weight 242, with
30 parts by weight of caustic soda lye at 38 Bé and
30 parts of oil for Turkish Red. Then, by stirring, we dissolve
100 parts by weight of denatured alcohol and
100 parts by weight of water at 60. After diluting with
177 parts by weight of water are introduced, with stirring, into
500 parts by weight of starch-tragacanth thickener.

With this paste, a cotton or viscose fabric is printed, dried and vaporized for 5 minutes at 1020 in damp water vapor, supplemented with vapors of acetic acid and formic acid, rinse, soap at the boil, rinse again and dry.

We get an impression of a. bright bluish red, over which is applied according to the indications of example 1? a protective layer impermeable to water. The printed design thus obtained does not bleed and has good resistance to friction.

The following table indicates a number of other dyes which can replace those of Examples 1 to 3 and which also provide plasticizer resistant dyes and prints.
