  PERFECTIONNEMENTS APPORTES AUX PROCEDES ET DISPOSITIFS POUR FABRIQUER 'DES PLAQUES DURES EN FIBRES DE'BOIS AVEC DES EMPREINTES
SUPERFICIELLES.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  IMPROVEMENTS IN METHODS AND DEVICES FOR MANUFACTURING 'HARD WOOD FIBER PLATES WITH IMPRESSIONS
SUPERFICIAL.

   The invention relates to the manufacture of embellished hard boards made of wood fibers. Its purpose is to produce, in a particularly simple and economical manner, - plates or panels of this kind. the surface of which has pronounced indentations having any shape and arrangement. These imprints can have a regular shape, for example geometric, or an irregular shape like that of the grains or crevices of the leather. These imprints may extend over the entire plate or only over any part of it.

   To obtain such impressions, it has hitherto been thought necessary to have recourse to treatments in at least two phases. It was also believed that the fibrous mass used for the manufacture of such plates should advantageously be pre-treated with special binders, with particularly large amounts of additive materials or with extraordinarily large amounts of these materials. . '
A known process for the production of hard and profiled plates consists, for example, in first pressing, from a mass of wood fibers, an unprinted plate, therefore with a smooth or flat surface, for example with a a certain moisture content after which the plate, previously pressed, is subjected to final pressing in impression molds, preferably hot.

   The new process, on the other hand, is carried out in one phase and consists in manufacturing the hard boards., In wood fibers, - exactly in, - the same way and with the same constituents as the simple boards with a smooth surface, with this difference that the pressing is not done with the help of flat or plain plates but with those which have the desired indentations.

   The impressions of the pressing plates can have any desired shape, these impressions having desired dimensions and geometric shapes.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 ques or irregular gait of any kind. It is also possible to provide the indentations on only a part of the pressing plates so that one obtains wood fiber plates or panels which have indentations only in the desired places while the other parts remain. united.

   The wood fiber pulp used for carrying out the invention is prepared in the same manner and contains the same additional materials as that used for the plates with a smooth surface.

  As it is always, for this production, very large quantities it is particularly important, for the technical efficiency and the economic value of the process, that one does not have to modify the bulky and expensive machines. as well as the work operations when it is desired to replace the manufacture of plates with a plain surface by that of plates whose surface comprises indentations, grains or ribs. For the implementation of the invention it is not necessary to transform the machines and the manpower does not have to be trained to apply the new process. There is no need to fear errors or malfunctions.

   As the industry's need for indentation-surface hard plates is still only a fraction of the demand for smooth-surface hard plates, this great advantage is achieved by the new process only in one job. and in the same machine or press it is possible to manufacture, at will and simultaneously, in part plates with a smooth surface and, for example in the upper or lower part of the press, hard plates whose surface has indentations .

  In order to bring about this improvement in the process, it suffices to provide only one particular conveyor with a movable branch which feeds only the part of the press which has been chosen for the manufacture of the profiled or imprinted plates. This possibility of integrating the new process directly into the operations and at the rate of the usual processes, for the manufacture of hard plates with a smooth surface, underlines its economic importance which was already manifested by the above-mentioned simplicity of the treatment.
