  DISPOSITIF ET SYSTEME D'ENCLENCHEMENT POUR L'AMORCAGE DE LAMPES
FLUORESCENTES.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  INTERLOCKING DEVICE AND SYSTEM FOR LAMP PRIMING
FLUORESCENT.

   In the known starting devices for fluorescent lamps, it is impossible to start them at temperatures below -20 ° C at most. As is known, safe ignition can only be obtained down to -14 ° C at most, so that known ignition devices, especially when applied to fluorescent lamps intended for street lights, are of no use, as they no longer function properly below 14 C.

   It is further known that voltage pulses are irregular in current starting devices. As, on the other hand, these pulses are not controlled, they are most often located at unfavorable points of the voltage curve. It follows. that when the temperature drops below -14 C, the fluorescent lamp cannot ignite, since insufficient and uncontrolled voltage pulses only produce a continuously flashing lamp start.

   These drawbacks are eliminated by the present invention by virtue of the fact that the switching devices and systems are designed in such a way that commercial fluorescent lamps can ignite with certainty even at temperatures above -40 C.

   According to the invention, certain ignition at very low temperatures, in particular below -14 C is obtained on the one hand, thanks to the fact that the required rise in voltage is generated by an oscillating circuit formed by a self-induction and a capacitor and, on the other hand, thanks to the fact that the voltage surges are controlled in such a way that they are located at the most favorable point of the voltage curve.

   An exemplary embodiment of the device, as well as examples of the mounting system are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

Fig. 1 shows the device in elevation and in section, Fig. 2 and 2a are circuit diagrams shown in summary form,
Figs. 3-8 are circuit diagrams shown in summary form.

   The device comprises a housing 1 preferably made of light metal and joined in a suitable manner to the base plate 2 made of an insulating molded material, the whole so that the members of the mechanism arranged in this housing are housed away from dust.

   On the support plate 2 is mounted the cylinder head 4 made of sheet iron and connected to the support pin 3 located on the outer face of the support plate 2. A capacitor 5 is usefully fixed on the end. front of the cylinder head 4. The electromagnetic coil 6 is placed on the cylinder head 4 in front of the capacitor 5. This coil is fixed to the cylinder head; Its core has two notches at one end in which a copper short-circuit winding is arranged.

   To the yoke 4 is fixed a bi-metal contact spring 7, which has one end cantilevered and around which is fixed a heating coil 8. One end, 9 of the bimetal spring 7 is fixed to the cylinder head. cylinder head 4 via a small block 10 of insulating material.

  In order to allow correct adjustment of the bimetal spring 7, a sheet metal stroke limitation screen 11 is provided above it, against which this spring bears. The nut 11 is also fixed by one of its ends, 12, in the small block 10 of insulating material.

   The stud of the bimetal spring 7 is in contact, at rest, with the flat of the spring 14. The rest contact spring 14 is fixed to the yoke 4. To make contact, the rest contact spring 14 must lean against the rest screen 15, the end 22 of which is rigidly connected to the end 13 of the rest contact spring 14. The frame 16 is rigidly fixed to the contact spring at rest 14. This last spring is calculated in such a way that it still remains attracted by the coil 6 when the latter is traversed by a voltage of 80 volts, At the other end of the electromagnetic coil is located, fixed to the yoke 4, the working contact spring 17, to which an armature 18 is also attached.

   In order to avoid a too pronounced deflection of the working contact spring 17, a retaining screen 21 is also provided here, against which this spring comes to rest at rest. The cantilevered end of the spring 17 is provided with the stud 19 which comes into electrical contact, if necessary, with the stud 20 of the electromagnetic coil 6.

   The working spring 17 is established in such a way that, in each half-period, it is attracted and pushed back for an alternating voltage, applied to the coil 6 above 160-170 volts, while this spring remains at rest, as shown in the drawing, for this same voltage, but below 160-170 voltso Thanks to this construction and this arrangement, we obtain a particularly simple electrical connection between the different elements and which can be established for example as follows:
The contact pin 3 is electrically connected to the yoke 4. In addition, the rest contact spring 14, the working contact spring 17 as well as a pole of the capacitor 5 and one end of the winding of the cylinder head. coil, are electrically connected to the cylinder head 4.

   To the other contact pin 3a is connected, while being isolated from the yoke 4, the additional pad 20 of the electromagnetic coil 6, this pad being connected to the other end of the winding of the latter. , end to which is therefore also connected on the other hand the other pole of the capacitor 5, as well as the free end of the heating winding 8. The other end of this heating winding is rigidly fixed to the bimetallic spring 7, for example by welding or the like. A resistance winding of about 30 ohms is connected in series with capacitor 5.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   By considering the diagram of the assembly of Figs. 2 and 2a, the following operation is obtained. After a brief period of heating the electrodes, the ignition takes place as a result of the voltage surges which occur periodically and which occur. produce as a result of charging and short-circuiting a capacitor 5. in combination with an inductance coil L.

   After switching on the lamp, the heating current from the electrodes passes through the heating coil 8 and passes through the pads of the springs 7 and 14, so that the bimetal strip 7 heats up. The capacitor 5 and the winding 6 are short-circuited. As a result of heating :, the spring 7 opens the normally-closed contact between 7 and 14.

   After opening this contact, winding 6 is traversed by almost all of the mains voltage. This has the effect of suddenly attracting the spring 14 D9 On the other hand, the spring 17 is also attracted to this. moment and begins to operate as a shaker contact at pads 19 and 200 The spring 14 is calculated in such a way that it does not react to brief interruptions of current Once the ignition has been operated ;, the operating voltage of the lamp is crossed the winding 60 The spring 14 remains attracted, while the spring 17 stops in its open position.

   Other arrangements and ignition devices will be described below which also make it possible to light fluorescent lamps at low temperatures, in particular below -14.

   According to the assembly of Figo 3, the voltage surge necessary for starting fluorescent lamps is produced by an oscillating circuit formed by the inductor L and the capacitor C, so that the operation is established as follows
The current passing through the incandescent electrodes and the capacitor C ensures the heating of these electrodes, so that the voltage of the oscillating circuit, which is established simultaneously, rapidly determines the starting of the fluorescent lamp.

   In the assembly of Figo 4, the priming takes place in the same way as in Fig. 3. However, in the device of freeze 4, once the start is assured, the capacitor of the oscillating circuit is switched off by a switch Uo. To increase the certainty of starting, the switch U is set in such a way that , during the ignition process, it causes a periodic interruption of the current in the oscillating circuit so that a further increase in the starting voltage is obtained.

   This makes it possible to realize the following fact
After starting, the lamp voltage is reduced to its service value. Then switch U opens the circuit and puts the oscillating circuit capacitor off, this switch being able to be controlled by the lamp voltage, or else by the current thereof.

   In the assembly according to Fig. 5 priming occurs in principle as described in connection with Fig. 4 and as shown therein. However, in Figo 5, the breaking point is determined by means of a phase shift in such a way that when the current of the oscillating circuit is interrupted, an additional voltage of a maximum value is obtained.
In the assembly according to Fige. 6, ignition takes place in principle as in Figo 4 or 5.

   However, in Fig. 6, the ignition electrodes of the lamp are subjected to heating by means of a special time-delayed relay.
This assembly works as follows g The thermal relay in series control ThR cuts off the heating circuit after a short heating period9 after which the starting device according to Figso 4 or 5 comes into action immediately, thus determining the starting of the fluorescent lamps

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

Diaprés the assembly of La Fige 7:

  , an electrically controlled Schw switching mechanism (for example a small motor) interrupts the heating circuit using switch 1, after a brief period of heating of the flashing electrodes of the lamp, after whereby the lamp is applied, by means of the switch 2, powerful ignition pulses, so that the lamp is caused to start.

   The contacts can be actuated using cam discs, contact cylinders, or the like. After ignition, the Schw interlocking mechanism is disconnected by means of current or voltage relays, under control of the lamp operating current or lamp voltage, in such a way that 'he remains in his resting position
According to the assembly of FIG. 8, the starting is effected by the fact that a delayed relay ensures the preliminary heating, after which an electromagnetic switch produces the rise in the voltage necessary for starting.

   We thus obtain the following operation:
Contact 1a is closed in the idle state, so that a heating current is first established which ensures the preliminary heating of the priming electrodes of the lamp. After the delayed opening of the contact la, the relay R2 - which is for example controlled by the voltage of the lamp (in accordance with Fig. 8) or by the current of this lamp - determines immediately, by periodical opening and closing of the heating current circuit, surges of surge which follow one another quickly and which determine with certainty the flashing of the lamp. Once the engine starts, contacts 1 and 2 remain in the open position.

   The devices and assemblies exposed above make it possible to establish starters for common fluorescent lamps, starters which ensure certain starting of these lamps even at very low temperatures ranging for example down to -60 Co This result is obtained by the provision of selectively controlled heating for the electrodes of the lamps

Assembly according to 5 and 6, characterized by the provision of a thermal relay (ThR) in series, controlled by the current which ensures the heating of the flashing electrodes of the lamp (Figo 6). 80 Montage caractérisé en ce qu'un mécanisme d'enclenchement à commande électrique (Schw) (un petit moteur par exemple) interrompt le cir- cuit de chauffe par l'interrupteur (1)après une brève période de chauffage des électrodes d'amorgage de la lampe, après quoi la lampe se voit appliquer, au moyen de l'interrupteur (2) des impulsions d'amorçage puissantes en vue de son démarrage l'actionnement des contacts pouvant être assuré à l'aide de disques à camesdes cylindres de contact, etc (Fige 7). 80 Assembly characterized in that an electrically controlled interlocking mechanism (Schw) (a small motor for example) interrupts the heating circuit by means of the switch (1) after a brief period of heating of the priming electrodes the lamp, after which the lamp is applied by means of the switch (2) powerful ignition pulses with a view to its starting the actuation of the contacts which can be ensured by means of cam discs of the cylinders of contact, etc. (Fig. 7). 9. Assembly according to 4, characterized in that the heating of the starting electrodes is ensured by a heating current, the arrangement being such that, after the delayed opening of the contact (1) a relay (R2) 9 controlled by the voltage of the lamp, produces voltage surges in rapid succession, determining the start of the fluorescent lamp even at low temperatures, the contacts (1 and 2) remaining open after start-up (Fig. 8), in annex 2 drawings,
