ACCOUPLEMENT D'ARBRES.

des plans des tourillons;
La fig. 2 est une vue en élévation et en coupe suivant un plan per- pendiculaire du premier;

COUPLING OF TREES.
The invention relates to a shaft coupling which serves for the transmission of movements between parts of rotating machines, for example for controlling the front wheels of automobiles. For this purpose, the use of cardan joints is necessary. It provides the required uniformity of motion transmission at separation angles up to 40. The simple use of two seals arranged in series is not possible because, in this case, the size would be too great. Furthermore, achieving the necessary centering of the shafts is difficult, because for this purpose special centering parts have to be introduced through the hollow joint of the journals. In a known shaft coupling, an intermediate piece is provided with two easily removable joint covers which are incorporated therein.
The invention eliminates these drawbacks almost completely.
The coupling shafts according to the invention consists of two cardan joints mounted one behind the other, connected by a hollow shaft or the like in which the ends of the shafts to be coupled enter the joint and guide each other by means of 'a ball or hollow cylinder guide so that the point of intersection of the axes of the two shafts always remains the same with respect to one of the shafts. For centralized lubrication, the invention provides a lubrication pipe arranged on the drous shaft or at one of the ends of the two shafts. Preferably axial lubrication channels existing in all the shafts or journals and interconnected, serve for the distribution of the lubricant.
The main advantage of the shaft coupling according to the invention is its extremely compact construction, allowing it to be fitted even in very tight vehicles. Another advantage is the almost complete sealing of all bearings.
The invention is shown in the drawing in a preferred exemplary construction.

On the drive ring 1 are arranged on either side the two pivot supports 2, 3 which can rotate. In the notches, 4, 5 of the journal supports 2, 3 are introduced on each side the heads 6, 7 of the control and controlled shafts 8, 9 and the journals 10, 11 of the shafts rest in the bearings 12, 13 of the supports corresponding trunnions.
The sphere 14 at the end of the drive shaft 8 articulates in a corresponding construction cup 15 located at the end of the driven shaft.
The lubrication pipe 16 of the drive ring 1 serves for the central lubrication of all the bearings through the channels k shown in the drawing.
