 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   L'invention est décrite ci-après en détail.avec les dessins ci-joints à l'appui qui représentent une forme de réalisation de la chaîne et du transporteur à chaîne suivant l'invention qui comporte deux de ces chaînes, et sur lesquels : la fig. 1 est une vue par-dessus en plan du transporteur en courbe horizontale; la fig. 2 est une coupe suivant la ligne II-II de la fig. 1; la fige 3 est une élévation latérale du transporteur en courbe verticale ; la fig. 4 est une vue par-dessus en plan d'une partie du brin de la chaîne, deux articulations étant représentées en coupe; la fig. 5 est une coupe suivant la ligne V-V de la fig.   4;   la fig. 6 est une élévation latérale d'un maillon; la fig. 7 est une vue par-dessus en plan de ce maillon; la fig. 8 est une élévation latérale d'un détail de l'articula- tion ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  CHAIN AND CHAIN CONVEYOR.

   The present invention relates to a link chain which can be guided and is particularly suitable for conveyors traveling in curves, and to a conveyor which is specially suitable for the new chain.

   Belt conveyors often have to run in curves or flex in different planes to form vertical and horizontal curves to meet various applications or special engineering conditions. In addition, the conveyor belt used for example in dairies for transporting jars, cans, baskets of bottles, etc. must be able to slip, that is, the upper surface of the conveyor belt must be flat enough so that when the goods being transported stop for any reason, the belt can continue to advance while the goods remain motionless.

   Slip-able belt chain conveyors are usually equipped with a belt that. comprises two or more chains called bolted chains, the different links of which are articulated by means of bolts which join them together. However, theoretically, this chain can only be flexed in one plane. Oven allow it to take at least some bending in another plane, play is given to the bolts of some chain conveyors, and for the chain to slide, it must be arranged so that the bolts remain substantially horizontal. When the chain conveyor has to follow a path with horizontal curves, the radius of curvature is too large because of the limited bending that the chain can take in the horizontal plane at the location of the horizontal bolts.

   This conveyor cannot currently take a bending so as to form concave curves in the vertical plane, because in this case the chain would rise out of the conveyor.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The device according to the invention consists in joining the links together by two joints which can preferably oscillate in two planes perpendicular to each other, and in giving one end of each link an open shape which surrounds the closed end of the adjacent link, so that at least one side of the chain forms a surface which is in principle flat.

   The invention further exhibits the following characteristics.

   The joint consists of an ankle placed in the closed end of a link and perpendicular to the theoretical upper surface of the chain and, in a transverse axis parallel to this upper surface, passing through a hole in the ankle. , as well as in holes in the closed end of the link and in holes in the open end of the adjacent link which surrounds this closed end.

   The holes in the closed end of the link through which the transverse axis parallel to the upper surface of the chain passes have a shape which allows this axis to rotate in the holes, in a plane passing through the axis of the ankle, for example by giving the holes an elongated shape.

   The transverse axis parallel to the upper surface of the chain comprises portions extending it beyond the open link and intended to guide the chain in concave vertical curves.

   Each extension has a section of semi-circular shape, so as to allow the surface of the extension which forms the free diameter of the semi-circle to slide on the lower surface of a guide forming part of the conveyor in which the chain is introduced.

   The lower part of the pin which is perpendicular to the upper surface of the chain has the shape of a sector of a circle allowing it to cooperate with a control toothed wheel forming part of the conveyor in which the chain is arranged, so as to be able to remove dirt and foreign matter from the chain by passing through spaces in the conveyor and communicating with the space below the sector-shaped pin.

   The invention is described in detail below, with the accompanying supporting drawings which show an embodiment of the chain and chain conveyor according to the invention which comprises two such chains, and in which: fig. 1 is a top plan view of the conveyor in a horizontal curve; fig. 2 is a section taken along line II-II of FIG. 1; rod 3 is a side elevation of the conveyor in a vertical curve; fig. 4 is a top plan view of part of the chain end, two joints being shown in section; fig. 5 is a section taken along the line V-V of FIG. 4; fig. 6 is a side elevation of a link; fig. 7 is a top plan view of this link; fig. 8 is a side elevation of a detail of the joint;

   fig. 9 is a top plan view of this detail; fig. 10 is a top plan view of the horizontal axis of the joint, and FIG. 11 is a side view of this axis.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to the embodiment shown, the side elements 1 of the frame of the conveyor are in the form of an angle and are kept assembled by spacers 2. These have U-shaped recesses 3 in which " pass the chains of the conveyor, in the number of two in this case .. A flat steel bar 4, placed at the bottom of each recess 3, supports the corresponding chain, 50 .. A flat, longitudinal iron bar 6 is placed between the two chains 5 and contributes with the side elements 1 of the frame to guide the chains.

   The lower wings of the side elements 1 of the frame and the flat iron bar 6 are arranged in the same plane and extend slightly beyond the recesses 3, partly covering the opening 7.

   The chain is an articulated link chain. The articulation between two chain links 8 is formed by a pin 9, mounted rotatably in one end of a link 8, which forms a loop 10. The pin 9 is pierced with a hole 11 perpendicular to it. its longitudinal direction and corresponding to a window 12 provided on each side of the loop
10. The other end of link 8 is open, thus giving the link the shape of a clevis. Each branch of the yoke is pierced with a hole 13. A transverse pin or pin 14 passes through the hole 13 of each branch, the windows 12 of an adjacent link and the hole 11 of the pin.
9.

   The axis 14 is kept fixed in the holes 13, for example by means of grooves, but it is rotatably mounted in the windows 12 and in the hole
11. It comprises on each side of link 8 an extension 15 ,,, which is preferably made to take the shape of a semicircle (fig. 11) after having assembled the chain The lower or anterior end in the direction of the advancement of the pin 9, the form of a sector of a circle 16 engaging a toothed wheel (not shown) which serves to control the chain.

   The operation of the device is evident from the foregoing description. The extension 15 of the pin 14 serves to guide the chain along a vertical concave curve, fig. 3, according to which the surface of the extension comes into contact by its free diameter against the lower surface of the guide plates 1. The chain advances in the direction from A to B (fig. 1). Due to the shape of the chain links, solid particles and possible impurities exit during operation through the space delimited between the surfaces 16 in the form of a sector and through the openings 7. These openings 7 also allow the conveyor to be easily cleaned. sprinkling it with water.

   The links of the chain of the construction form according to the invention are thus mounted for rotation in mechanical form in the horizontal and vertical direction in a manner offering great resistance to wear.

   Of course, the invention should not be considered as limited to the embodiment shown and described which has been chosen only by way of example.
